The fact that he had kids taking out PPP loans and giving him the money is absolutely disgusting. The fact that he stiffed every one of those loans and then on top of it belittled those players cope with that kind of trust in him shows that this dude is the most putrid type of human. Gross is not strong enough to describe what i felt watching that! Just horrific, the things those kids went through is heartbreaking to hear.

You really wanna trust HBO, the same people that want to use AI instead of paying hard-working writers? OK. I guess when it comes to demonizing a Black man, that's something we can all get behind without questioning anything, huh? 1. Roy is an arrogant dude, who will lie _egregiously_ to those he doesn't care about to help those he does care about. I know him personally. Like every person, all of his decisions aren't good and all of them aren't bad. Roy is an easy target because he doesn't care if you (naively) think he's cartoonishly evil. 2. Noticed that all of these critics of Roy aren't asking any questions about the actual money and power behind what happened and why? Notice how the ESPN, Washington Post reporter and journalist trying to sell a book didn't investigate and report on the elephant in the room, how this all got started and by whom? The doc, in passing, mentions a church. None of you ask who this church is. Look up the AME Church. They promised to help these families and kids. They lied to them and they abandoned them. In his arrogance, Roy tried to keep it going. The very rich and powerful AME took no national hit to their image. A single guy did. That seem legit to you? I bet you think the only people to blame for Jan 6 are the people who stormed the castle, not the people who encouraged them to do it and who continue to rile people up against minority groups. 3. Did you notice that Roy's domestic charge is totally unrelated to the topic at hand and that only one person, out of the dozens of people they interviewed, said they saw the domestic abuse? The two mothers they interviewed (somewhat understandably) hate Roy. They never said they saw anything. The parents and players they interviewed, who didn't air, never said they saw anything. If they did, it would've aired. There was only one person, a player, who said he saw Roy abuse his girl. And if you notice, it's the only time you see Roy's attitude change during the whole doc. Did you ask yourself why a guy that laughs when Bomani Jones, Michael Strahan and national journalists take shots at him, gets visibly hurt when one of his players accuses him of domestic abuse? Because it was a lie from a kid who Roy bent over backwards to help. I was on the phone when the kid admitted he lied because HBO said they'd get him another football opportunity. Someone who was real quite about the domestic abuse charge, when she could've spoken up was the "team trainer," but actually only a team mom, Krista. You wanna know why she didn't speak up? Because Roy's girl, who is his kid's mother and from whom he was split at the time, found out that Krista was not only traveling with the team, helping move the boys from hotel to hotel without paying, but that she was staying in Roy's room and fucking him the whole time. She didn't want to talk about the alleged domestic abuse, because of her proximity to the situation and role in it. 4. These kids knew they weren't in high school. They wanted to play football and they wanted to believe this would get them into college. *SO DID ROY.* They gloss over the fact some of the kids are currently in college and fail to mention how Roy helped them get there. They also cut anything positive the kids and their parents had to say about Roy. Their chances at playing football were completely gone before AME and Roy came along. This was the only chance, no matter how slim, they had. The church ghosted them for no reason other than it was going to be more money and effort than they originally thought. Roy didn't give up when he should have. But if you know some kids are gonna be homeless and won't know where their next meal is gonna come from because a church used you to promise these kids something, would you stop trying to help? 5. He never got PPP loans in the kids names. If he did, he'd be in prison. You know this. Why isn't he? He helped them get the loans. The ones that played the system correctly have great credit and either didn't have to repay the loans or they have paid them. The ones that didn't when they saw all of that money in their accounts are the ones that took the credit hit. 6. He described, in detail, how he was able to write a "check" to these hotels that he knew wouldn't pay out and him still not go to prison for fraud. I'll just say that you can have checks printed that will look right to you and I, but if certain markers are missing, processing machines will return an error. The hotel tried to process the check and thought it didn't go through because it bounced. When the actual FBI looked into the account, the money was there. The check was "faulty." It was, without question, unethical. It was NOT illegal. Most importantly, it also kept a roof over those kids heads. The hotel is still in business, by the way, and the owner is a very rich family. Again, I ask, if you know some kids are gonna be homeless and won't know where their next meal is gonna come from because a church used you to promise these kids something, would you stop trying to help? Maybe you would. Maybe you'd say, "Tough luck kids. You win some, you lose most" and block the kids so you don't have to face the guilt of sending them back to the ghetto. But then you also probably wouldn't go to the world premiere of a documentary designed to make you look like an anime villain. Guess who went to the premiere? Roy. I've worked with and stood next to him, raising money for folks in the church who couldn't afford to bury their family members. We've done volunteer work together. Roy was making good money, before this happened. He'd be pissed if he knew I wrote this because he literally laughs at what the public thinks of him and says he doesn't need defending. He tried to help. To him, it looked like it might work if he kept moving pieces around long enough to find real funding and fulfill some dreams. As is the case for many people, it didn't work out. Unfortunately, people got hurt. Capitalism will do that. And the be fair, Roy's hubris made him think more of himself than he should have. Again, Roy is arrogant and this cost him. He's also a shit coach and the football mentality is toxic masculinity on steroids, sometimes literally. But Roy isn't singular in that. He isn't malicious. At least not to those he cares about. But if you, and everyone else in this comment section wanna take the word of a mega corporation, well I guess it's just another piece of evidence of why humanity will never win in my lifetime.

Don't need to see the doc to know it was scam from when it FIRST hit the news back then. And stop with that 'demonizing a black man' crap. He was taking advantage of children with ZERO remorse. Worse, it was black youth that he was using. It was questioned back then and the video of them playing back then laid it all out. If that wasn't enough for you, then you are just comfortable in being the buffoon.

@jeffii9890
@jeffii9890 Год назад
@@JustHerefortheComments_ Roy would agree that he doesn't need defending. He isn't trying to do it again, by the way. You do know that films aren't finished just before you start watching them, right? But if could be done correctly, what's the problem? Prep schools exists. Kid's dreams are fulfilled after going to them. Are we talking morally? From a moral standpoint, football shouldn't exist based on what we now know. Wealth inequality, especially racially motivated wealth inequality, should've been something that was solved 100 years ago. Then Black little boys would see playing a violent, exploitative sport as their only way to escape crushing generational poverty. I know it makes you feel good to wag your finger at a single individual and keep it moving, but Roy is not the problem. The doc and Bomani briefly touch on the real problems while Bomani, Michael, ESPN, HBO and the producers _each_ continue growing their media empires and millions of dollars profiting from the very thing them feign to condemn. Miss me with that bullshit.
