I finished the book yesterday, and I mostly agree with your assessment. My main reason for getting the book was the hope that it would expand on the characters. As you mentioned in your review, I felt like we only got that with Reynolds. I enjoyed learning about his history with George, and it made me love both characters more. I wish that backstory had been revealed in the actual show, though we got a hint from Episode 4 in the dining room when Reynolds placed his hand on George's shoulder to calm him. I don't think it was common to touch the King without permission, so that showed they had a close bond. Other than that, having seen the show first lessened my enjoyment of the book. My favorite scenes were Charlotte and George's first meeting in the garden, their confession of love in Episode 6, and of course, the final scene of the series. The acting was so strong in those scenes, that reading them on the page fell flat for me.

Hii I've been thinking about reading it, because I really liked the series But does the book have a happy ending? I know the king eventually gets worse and ends up ill, but like, when you finished reading it, you felt happy? Like: wow, that was really an amazing book? 🙂

@@giovanalinsmutti814 Great question! It has been a while since I read the book, so I had to go back and refresh my memory. The ending of the book doesn't give you any additional insight to what the television show did. So, you will come away with the same feeling as the show, and I think seeing the actors perform the final scene packs a bigger punch than reading it on the page. Hope this helps!
