I still have my Wii U, and it’s a great system. I still think COD on Wii U is great with two people in the same room have their own screens. That was a game changer.
@@solonepeon5805fr back when ps3's online service was free, then Microsofts paywall Xbox Live made every company hop on board for paid online service 😔
Similarly in Uncharted 3 on the PS3 allows two players locally to play online via splitscreen but I got a feeling Naughty Dogs was planning to add SimulView support for owners of the PlayStation 3D Display.
I used to use the gamepad as a remote for the TV in my sister's room. I would randomly change the channel of the show that she was watching. It was kind of funny.
I bought a Wii U and played it a ton. I never owned a Wii myself so the redundancy of it was great for my use case. I actually still play prime trilogy on it from time to time.
I rebought myself a "Metroid Machine" myself a year or two ago... It's all the Wii U is good for anymore... Just Port the Metroid Series IN FULL to the Switch Nintendo FFS 🤦 😂
I had this happen when I tried to get a PS4 except it was an Amazon seller. To all the sellers out there, if the item was USED, DO NOT mark the item as new and attempt to sell it. We will know. We’re not that stupid.
Yeah, I'm not going to get a Nintendo Wii U from eBay, Amazon Marketplace, etc.; I'm going to get a used one from a local brick-and-mortar store, where I can inspect it *_*before*_* I hand over *_ANY_* money. [I *_ABSOLUTELY_*_ _*_*NEED*_* the Nintendo Wii U virtual console version of _Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3_ with *_*ALL*_* of the e-Reader stages/levels - *_including_* the (formerly) Japanese-exclusive and American-exclusive ones - in my life, so...]
The Wii U was a fantastic system! It makes me sad to think about how poorly handled it was by Nintendo. So many fantastic games! I put countless hours into games like Mario Maker, Rayman Legends, Mario Kart, Lego City Undercover and Mario 3D World to name a few. I also first experienced Breath of the Wild on it! The Mii verse was really cool and the game pad was a great controller! It's a damn shame most people never got to experience it. I definitely miss the Wii U.
@@rijjhb9467 They didn't really get developers to utilize the gamepad. Well, worried that it may break? Mine is now about 10 years old. Getting my use from it.
I remember my first thought when I played a game on the wii u gamepad instead of the TV. The gamepad itself should be the console. Now we have the switch. Thank you nintendo!
The thing i love about the Wii and Wii U versions of CoD games is the Wiimote Support, using the Wiimote to aim and shoot is so comfortable and I actually got Modern Warfare 3 on Wii on Launch just for that reason despite having a PS3 at the time. Also fun fact, the Wii U's CPU is technically based off PowerPC G3 which dates back to the late 90s with the iMac G3.
Love my wiiu the ability to play off the tv was the major selling feature for me. With the virtual console on there for a bonus i still have mine hooked up today!
I’ll die on the hill that the Wii U gamepad was the most comfortable controller I’ve ever used. I love how wide it is and the sticks and buttons felt great. Didn’t stop me from trading it in for a switch tho. I would buy a chunky switch pro for home only if it felt like the Wii U gamepad.
I can't agree that it's the most comfortable controller, but it is by far the most comfortable "handheld" I've ever used. I just wish they'd have put the right stick in the offset position they returned to with the Switch. If the Wii U gamepad were higher resolution it would be perfect. In every other way, the screen is better than the Switch's.
@@OutlawMantis I’ve thought about giving it a try because it honestly reminded me of the gamepad. I wish someone in my life would buy it so I could try it out but I’m the only one I know who’s at least semi interested in it.
I really like the Wii U - It got me back into gaming. I had taken a break from gaming around 2004 - I moved in with my girlfriend, job was exceptionally busy, eventually we married and then had a daughter in 2010. Around 2012 I started to think about gaming again. I was primarily a PC gamer prior but wanted something the whole family could enjoy. I bought a Wii U and it was SO MUCH FUN! Even though my daughter was young at the time she grew in to it and my wife (who was not a gamer) really got into many of the games. As my daughter got older we spent the summers (Im a teacher) going through games like Paper Mario Color Splash and New Super Mario Bros U together. Then the family Mario Cart tournaments, so much fun! It was also my daughters first introduction to Zelda with Twilight Princess. I will never, ever get rid of my Wii U, so many memories now tied up into it.
Man, I love Rich Reviewing Tech in the USA. Seriously though, great vid. Loved all the comprehensive reviews of the games. Thanks for going through all the trouble.
I purchased a Wii U recently. I'm very impressed at the library of games and the whole functionality of the gamepad. Such a cool console, I'm defo gonna be collecting a bunch of games for it. Ps, always watch your videos Rich! Great work 😊
21:16 This is the funniest review I`ve seen in years! This part could be my new ringtone. (I`m not a bot. I grew up in Jakobsdal Örgryte half a mile from Pewdiepie)
I remember I harassed my parents about wanting a Wii U and I got one for Christmas in 2013. It's still my most favorite home console. Probably because of nostalgia lol I also remember I took a selfie on my TV using the Wii U Chat app and my iPod at the time (I was a cringy 13 year old with too much free time. Idk how I managed to do that). I have so many good memories of this thing so it's really nice to see this video.
I bought a Wii U after it was discontinued, just for Breath of the Wild when it came out. I use it primarily for playing DS games on the TV nowadays, though until Nintendo gives us Twilight Princess HD and Wind Waker HD on the Switch, I won't be packing the Wii U away for good.
I own and have beaten a lot of these. Loved orochi warriors hyper on wii u. It plays fine. Ninja garden razors edge was sooo hard. Zombi U I loved. Hard disagree with Rich on that one. This is one of the exceptions where the gamepad was done right and it adds to the horror experience.
I picked up a refurbished one on ebay with a bundle of games. I decided to give it a second go after looking into improvement mods. HD wii games, gamecube emulation and wii u titles backed up for quick access and no need for the disc drive make this a surprisingly awesome gaming machine. ... not to mention all the eshop titles I had bought years ago.
The Virtual Boy wasn't a handheld either though. It wasn't mobile. It may not have been a home console you can hook to a TV, but it was a stationary home device you couldn't do much with. And yeah it was a big failure. But there's some pretty awesome games i wish would get modern ports from that device.
I bought mine when Smash released and also used it as a 3D Zelda machine. As a kid who really only played Mario, Pokémon and Kirby games, it was a fantastic way to explore other Nintendo franchises at an affordable price (looking at you Fire Emblem and Metriod GBA games).
we were just playing wii u yesterday. my wife just discovered how great the zelda series is about a year ago and was playing wii u wind waker, the gamepad definitely comes in handy on that one, just as long as were playing with the pro controller
I purchased my Wii U towards the end of it's life time and only had a few Mario titles and Splatoon. After researching the system on launch and compared to where it ended up today, we all know why the system is a failure. I give my condolence to those who purchased the system day one, especially with the gaming draughts for the system.
Hey Rich that was such a refreshing memory lane. I´ve remember way back in the day following your videos about next gen rumours at the time. Something that always didn´t get about the WiiU is that many ports run worse than in ps3/360 for not reason, some sites even claming that it was less powerful than the ps3. I do remember watching video comparasions for blops2 and it def looked a bit uglier in some parts. Cheers!
Black ops 2 is fire on the Wii U. Not infested with hackers and still a small community playing most hours of the day. Wii U had an amazing launch lineup.
When I bought my Wii U in 2014, Nintendo was giving away a free first party game if you registered one other first party game on ClubNintendo . I got the Wii U Wind Waker edition (game came with the console) and was able to use that to get Pikmin 3 for free.
Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed is also available on Steam with multiplayer, and I definitely recommend it there if you catch it on sale. Makes for a fun and frantic afternoon with your friends with the added bonus of having a full screen in kart racing multiplayer
@@o_KingOfKings_o I agree, but I still enjoyed it especially since I could play it on the game pad. I still say they should at least port Black ops 1 or 2 on the switch.
Honestly if there is one game that is a must play on the Wii U, it would easily be Xenoblade Chronicles X. Easily my favorite game on the system and honestly the only reason why I still have this system. I’d highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t already.
Had a similiat experience with a pro controller I bought supposedly “like new”… I hope to god that brown stuff I cleaned when i took the controller apart when the a button was sticking was soda.
You forgot to mention that the black strip on the front of the gamepad where the camera is, that's also a Wii sensor bar so ur good to go for Wii games if you don't have one.... Also, the battery compartment on the gamepad is designed to take a significant battery upgrade. Costs only $20-30 and more than doubles battery life.
I had bought a used wiiU to rebuy xenoblade X on the e-shop from a mom and pop gaming shop down the road where i live about a month ago after hearing news about wiiu/3ds shop shutdown, and then the recent news of xenoblade 3. So i got kinda hype and wanted to play through all the games again. So i headed down there after i called to purchase it, They said all the connecting wires and stuff was in this big sandwich bag and (from my eye) everything looked like it was there. So, happy as i could be i went home to set it up. After getting home, setting up all the wires and whatnot, i come to find that the charger that looks like the wiiu gamepad controller one was actually for the wiiU pro controller. Ok, no big deal right? The pro controller was made for the wiiu and in my head, it would make sense to have the same charging port right? Nope. The charger was not in the bag, so i was like "ok, i will just order one, no big deal, the people over the gaming shop probably didn't know" At this point, i couldn't even turn it on to get to the main menu, so i waited a couple days for the gamepad charger to come in. I get the charger, boot up to the main menu, create my mii for eshop access, try to get online annnnnddd....BAM parental controls. I was just like "really? after all that?" fortunately, the internet helped me out on a way to get it off. TL:DR: I bought a wiiu, and shoulda asked if everything was in the bag lmao
This was fun to watch and looked like it was also fun to make! Please make other videos like this using other consoles that performed just like WiiU did. May I suggest the VITA! That would be too perfect for this kinda video!
Look down at the pad, look up at the screen, look down at the pad, look up at the screen, the unquestionably perfect and flawless logic to a Star Fox game too...
Hard work pays off for sure, you defo didn’t hold back on how you genuinely felt about this and it’s defo what I enjoyed most about this, it speaks to the authenticity of the review as a whole and as someone who has been watching your streams for sometime now, it’s easy to understand how you feel 😂 nice work 💯
Loving how your content has diversified lately, Rich. This video is stellar and your recent reviews with Jay are a good time too. I also notice some production quality upgrades that are also awesome. More reviews or discussions with Jay are something I'd like to see more of. Maybe some videos on specific consoles as well? I remember you getting a Turbo Express at one point and some vids about the Turbo systems would be fun
