i just finished installing and setting up my phone using SD845 feels so nice and smooth, as you mentioned in the video UT has been around for a while now and some of the design has been stolen by google and apple, i remember when i had dual boot on my nexus 4 and was using it as daily driver because of how good the battery life was and how modern it looked, but now that i'm using again it feels that there is not much to it other than using it as a portable distro! we need to do something about navigation it's the only weak part
The snapdragon CPU on the pixel is an absolute beast. The pinephone's AllWinner 64 is an entry level chip. I have Ubuntu touch on my old Xiaomi mi3 cancro and is still a lot faster than the pinephone.
@@yxles I can't wait to get myself some free time to play around with postmarketOS which has more comprehensive release for the snapdragon 800 which in theory should work with the Mi3 out of the box
It wasn't that bad. I think the hardest thing was getting the phone version back to android 9. I have to do another one so will try to document the entire process and do another video.
@@nizexlizzy Cool, would be interested in seeing the install from beginning to end. I'm getting a Pixel 3a tomorrow and hopefully going to give it a shot over the weekend.
gracias por el video 7 meses usando ubuntu touch en one plus 6 8gb 256gb no voy a cambiar nunca es el mejor sistema operativo para telefonos que he visto
I agree with your conclusions. I've had a PinePhone Pro for almost a year now. My take-away is this: a Flintstones Phone is better suited to daily-driving than is a PinePhone Pro. If you want a Linux phone, just de-Google a repurposed or refurbished Android. This cuts down on e-waste, costs less, is way less of a headache, and actually works (unlike the PinePhone Pro). I can call a broken cinder-block "Open Source", but that doesn't make it _better_ than a non-broken, non-open source cinder-block.
They are two different SoCs, so no. The Pixel 3A runs a Snapdragon 670, while the Pixel 3 runs a Snapdragon 845. That being said, the Snapdragon 845 has very good mainline support, and other devices which use it have very complete ports. Idk about Ubuntu Touch, but there's a PostmarketOS port for OnePlus 6. Postmarket also has a community port for the Pixel 3 (non-A), but it sounds like it's not necessarily daily driver ready? I haven't been able to find any more up to date info, so it's hard to say.
Great review captain, thank you! Regarding a good alternative for the GPS, what's your experience with Pure Maps? It seems a bit more developed than the good old uNav at this point.
Hey Glenn, thank you for the video. Is this a Pixel 3 or 3a? I tried installing Ubuntu Touch on my Pixel 3, but the installer won't let me. I've tried to do it anyways using the installation process for the 3a, but that damaged my boot process. Thanks for any tips.
Was watching a good review/comparison, then he says logging into the data center! lik'd and sub'd ......Tip for anyone who may have a text size issue in a web browser on UT ...change the user agent on the browser to android and it will fix the sizing. You may have to add a browser plugin for user agent switching!
