Basil's brigandine and legs are perfect for army building. It'd be trivial to swap out helmets, heads, and weapons to add variety. If you want to keep the Fright Knight aesthetic, batman capes would be excellent for officers.
The batlord, goatherder and barbarian are all great for armybuilding. I wouldn't go for more than 12 or so bat soldier elites (waiting for other torsos to make a huge army - or even the fright night heavy armor if you can mass it). Goatherd is going to be a nice extra peasant or forestmen to give those some needed variety and barbarian, 2 or 3 for viking village, 1 or 2 as random castle warrior or even as a peasant torso / invading army. I really wish they made the vampire face in yelliw as well, love it because it looks really close to Vlad the impaler, the historical dracula inspiration.
The barbarian has some excellent parts for a viking fan like myself. I am excited for this one since old CMF Vikings have become very expensive, and I never had the chance to get them when they were cheap. I'm a casual fan (for now!) on a student budget, so I can't justify the prices. Although the hairpiece and the sword is leaning towards a fantasy barbarian style, you could easily turn this one into a good berserker with some easily found pieces! The face is especially good, since its easy to find grimacing or stern/stoic male figure faces, but not so easy with female ones.
Basil being an undead vampire really fits with the whole necromancer thing you have going with him in your setting, maybe you can incorporate it into the lore?
I really wish they would theme CMFs after set themes instead of mixing them. It makes it hard to justify if you're collecting a specific setting only interested in figs if they're city, or castle, or whatever.
Lego confirmed that they wouldn't ever do paper bags since they can't be "feel tested" too many times or they end up ripping after a few times. That being said, some people use a cheap tool to look into one's ear used by doctors (which you can look into and has a light integrated) to look into a gap that's on one of the corners of the blind boxes. They can literally see the parts and identify the figures 10/10 of times.
@@Goldfyrethere's easier ways. There's people out there that have translated the QR codes on the boxes into what miniature would be inside. These boxes aren't as anonymous as they might seem at first. Yes, it will take a few brave people to purchase the first boxes, but after that, we can select what we want. Fun fact: my choices would be exactly these three that you're showing here.
I think all three figures are FANTASTIC!!, Basil is the perfection of a classic remake, modernized and more printed without losing the original charm!. The pheasant may be my favourite of the three!, such useful and versatile prints!, I have the forest cap in modern brown so I think I’ll try that out!. The barbarian is also great!, I have some ideas for a clan of warriors living near some lava for my own world but a tale for another time!. The head, legs, arms, and sword are big standouts!, good amount of versatility so I’m excited to see what customs emerge!. Have a great day Goldfyre!, I’m sure we’ll hear from Basil and his undead brothers sooner then later 😉
As a stopmotion artist (though I’m not very good) basil the bat lord would make a FANTASTIC war god or dark magic lord I’m definitely picking this one up and oh my goodness the goat farmer don’t even get me started, the main 3 things: A: the fantastic printing B: the hood and head, although the hood is really basic it just fits so well C: and of course the holy grail of Lego animals the goat, I’m not explaining myself
I'm so glad they made a vampire head with a moustache now I can make a lore acurate Dracula. Plus basil helmet will look good for the army im building. I like the barbarian too and the red hair piece
yeah, the new Basil head immediately made me think Castlevania, and the barbarian's hair piece would make for a decent Simon Belmont, so now i think i have to commit to this lol
@@LEGOWaterSaga You know whats funny? Fright Knights and Castlevania Symphony Of The Night both came out in 1997 so making Basil say that line is even more appropriate.
I am looking forward to Series 25. I want the Barbarian Woman. The Mushroom Child and the Gamer. Fright Knight looks across between Batman and Darth Vader.
I got all three of these in my Basil hunt, and they're great. Getting a bunch of medieval fantasy characters was what finally tipped me over the edge into amassing the parts to make one of my D&D characters as a minifig, and now she's nearly complete, just waiting on the hair (mostly because the original piece I wanted to use doesn't fit inside the collar of her armour), and I think causing a bout of Bricklink Irresponsibility is the mark of a good experience with Lego. Basil is overall my favourite, not really a surprise. I personally used both of the arrow pieces for his weapon, so it's very oversized, but that's my inner Bionicle fan and my resultant preference for overly large weapons at work. Besides, he's a vampire now, he can be strong enough to swing around an axe that's taller than he is in one hand if he wants. The red blades on the axe are a bit weird but I kinda view it as a cursed, magical weapon that's tied to his vampirism. The Barbarian's great, her prints are fantastic and the sword is a great piece, and it's always cool to see Lego making more badass lady warriors. She'll fit right in with a Viking village or a bandit pack or a rag-tag band of heroes. The goatherd, I have less to say about. He's very nice, at least. The goat's cute?
@Goldfyre, Thank you for this video! Good to know that the weight identification system works for those three as they are my favourites from this series 😎
Decided to research the trans-red axe piece when I saw Basil's axe, because I have a Speed champions Mclaren elva that uses them for tail lights. Seems they were only used in a few sets in 2013-2014, 2021, 2022 and now with this CMF. In 2013-14 it was introduced in a couple of Ninjago and chima sets. Six years later, in 2021, the trans-red piece reappeared as the tail lights in the Maclaren elva. The year after that, in 2022, it was again used in a ninjago set. And now with Basil.
I don't mind the translucent red blades for Basil's axe. Classic Basil had his bat sceptre thing with the staff being translucent red so it fits in my eyes. I like to imagine the blades are actually forged out of blood.
Imho the new Bat Helmet looks nice, but more rough original version of it suited simpler eastern style of Basil's armour mich more. He is/was wearing definietely more utilitarian armour and not sleek ornamented ones. This new Bat Helmet would suit more with old Vladek Armours or Green Dragon Knight's from the Kingdom series than his rough look
Personally if im able to get the bat lord figure i will try to build an army with the figure as well as changing the head and giving it different weapons
Nice bro lets be honest we need these in sets could be perfect to make an army of peasants and warriors only difference is maybe change faces and accessories etc
I really like all of the figures, but really wish they had done the printing on the barbarian so that you could swap it with flesh colored heads. Too much yellow in the arms and legs for me to personally use that way, but at least the torso has no yellow in it. A small nitpick since I'm more partial to flesh colored figures as opposed to the classic yellow.
Some great figs in this series. Already picked up 39 vampire knights, 25 barbarians and 24 goat herders. I agree that the axe isn't that good. I would love to see those big axes that they had in the early 90's castle sets. A vampire has super human strenght so he would be able to weild such a heavy weapon. Btw, do you see a problem with the material used for vampires cape? It feels like paper so im afraid that it will tear easily.
yowza! i really need to pick up some more fright knights. I tried to the other day but my store was ransacked lol As for the cape material idk really. I feel like as long as your fairly gentle with it i cant see it tearing.
@@Goldfyre I went to just about every toy store in my town and asked if they had any unopend boxes I could look through. They were suprisingly helpful. I checked 13 boxes, and I think 11 of those were unopend. Took me about 12 hours. I used the QR-code or in some cases a weight scale which showed more precise numbers.
Or maybe he died in a battle the Fright Knights were in and Willa used her black magic to resurrect him only it resulted in him being brought back as a vampire. Since i'm taking what it said in a US Lego Mania magazine into account which said Willa turned Basil from a regular knight into the Bat Lord with her magic. So I guess the first time she used magic on him he was still alive so the magic didn't really turn him into a vampire but the second time now he's dead the magic did turn him vampire.
I don’t like how evil the new helmet looks. What I think made the old helmet perfect. Is how Basil could be a good guy who’s bat themed. Or a bad guy. Personally I’ll see what I do when I get my Basil. But I like him to be mortally neutral. All he wants to do is be scary. While his wife Willow is always trying to invade people and start shit. Also I wish the axe head came in soild red, so I can replay the axe on my Marceline. Btw they need to reuse the wave two vido bass in red.
I like blind boxes when I buy them online from Amazon. That’s how I get most of mine actually. But not for retail. Personally I think they should just have some boxes marked for online only.
Yeah i actually think aesthetically the boxes look nice but i just am not a fan of the gambling aspect to them. Especially since LEGO is primarily aimed at children.
The Bat helmet looks cool, but I think the old one was a bit cooler, because that one looked like a German crested Winged Topfhelm, which I always used for my Teutonic Order Grandmaster Figure. About Basils axe, I completely agree, it’s just not it.
@@medievalchameleon102 It depends, Topfhelme is the general term for great helm in German. Depending on what kind of crest is attached, names will of course be different, but in this case with the bat wings, it would be a winged helm, the one that is mostly associated with the Teutonic Knights Master, although it has horns, is also a winged helmet, but there are also Horned ones found in Austria for instance and other Germanic regions, which would be referred to as „Horned“.
I didn’t a have a scale and got three sheep herders and a gamer girl. That’s a ok line up. It could have been worse. When vido was out I got like four or five of the orange Alien. Like three bunny’s. Unlike vido the cmfs can be used on some customs. Vido had blind boxes and are so hyper spffic you basically can’t make customs.
it works great actually... I did the switch and hes my favorite, with his expression looks so sweet and nice... . actually all my guys are pacifist and vegetarians... they are FRUIT bats.... Still looking for hair pieces but I used the purple harpy hair and the purple and red and black does stand out nice, I might have to find a way to erase the back print of his head though.... For the original Basil I put black kids legs on him with a red marvel cape, and black wolverine hair... he looks so funny, I also have him with platform shoes the white pieces with the spike on the end.... just looks so grumpy and also so cute at the same time.
Because the Barbarin lady has a 8 pointed star, she can be used as a champion of chaos and slid into fright knights. Assuming you use demons in your fright knights army.
I'd have loved Basil's edgelord axe if it was bright red like his shirt or dark red like dry blood. Not a fan of the trans red in this context, either. Heck, if it was trans orange like it was made of magical flames, that would also be an absolute edgelord weapon! Being an edgy boy myself, I'm here for it. I was going to say I wasn't sure why they were giving him a labrys as his weapon of choice rather than a longsword, but then I remembered it's the same reason my bat warrior OC uses it, and why Batman was given an axe when he went to medieval Britain with Green Arrow in an episode of _The Brave and the Bold_ - the blades on the axe have the profile of spread bat wings! The earliest hints that Basil might be _maybe possibly_ a vampire were in Lego Racers, where one of the facial expressions you can give his minifigure head if you use it on your own character without a face-obscuring helmet has red eyes and visible fangs. I always chalked that one up to an Easter egg until this CMF came out and basically made it canon.
I've heard about it and it's really good news. Unfortunately i've only found the smaller qr codes around me that don't give any useful information. Much easier to scan with your phone than carry around a scale with you lol
