Why did they even change it? It looked much more interesting then, the actual game played it way too safe; the pillar features are gone and the hut and rolling hills looked much more like a Zelda 1 remaster would. They made it too bland and just dotted it with boring ruins and roaming Guardians to grind on.

Spider's Nest is seriously so cool to me. Lanayru Prominade (Spider's Nest) is one of the few spots on the map that has ancient Hylian architecture, meaning it was likely built by the Hylians who left Skyloft for the surface, or just after. This makes it one of the oldest structures in Hyrule. I really hope they end up implementing some form of Spider's Nest in TOTK.

I really hope that Tears of the Kingdom takes place a few years after BotW and not just immediately after. Just think Zelda, Robbie and Purah investigating why the Divine Beasts are deactivating one by one and finally the towers and shrines shrinking back into the ground in order of energy usage. Link and the leaders of each Ally of Hyrule directing the cleaning of Castle town just for Zelda to finally find a lead and ask for Link to come to the castle library.... This kind of setup would give plenty of time for Humans in general and Hylians to immigrate to the now much safer lands. The rebuilt wall of Castle town serving to keep out the newly empowered enemies who are thankfully no where near as destructive as the guardians.

Interestingly enough, Zelda 2 apparently took place JUST north of the original Legend of Zelda, albeit on a much larger scale - Pinnacle Rock on Death Mountain, which was at the very top of LoZ's map, was at the very bottom of Zelda 2's map but only represented by two boulders rather than clumps of rock half the screen large. Before A Link Between Worlds this was the closest we had ever seen this, so it's really great to see all of it come together in a much larger way.

4:44 This here is one of the reasons I loved Breath of the Wild's world so much. The principle of spacing things out so walking from a city to another town is an actual trip. For so long I saw people constantly saying "dense open worlds are the best" but one of my main issues with Skyrim's world was that you couldn't walk 100 feet without discovering a location. The result of that means that nothing actually feels like the wilderness. Your world feels less real. Some people complained about the empty space but I think that was what made the world feel so believable to me. Having tons of content everywhere can be good, but I'd prefer to have space to let the world breathe. I like having biomes be big enough to have plenty of room to feel like you're actually deep in that biome, without being able to walk for 2 minutes and be in a completely new biome.
@nathanross4036
@nathanross4036 Год назад
Too much space, though, and you get something meaninglessly empty like OOT.
@Crash_Knight
@Crash_Knight Год назад
@@nathanross4036 100% agreed. You gotta find a good balance. If there's too much space it just becomes a chore to travel around. And you end up relying on fast travel. For me, if they designed the map so that there were empty spots you could sort of avoid if you're not interested, I think that would be an interesting idea. Have the main road, and a big forest with lots of wildlife to hunt for example, or put something really cool at the other side of it. Whether its a beautiful vista or a fun dungeon or a secret item. Sorta like the desert in BOTW. They had the big empty desert which didn't take too long to traverse, and you had the fairy on one side, a shrine, the arbiters grounds, the town, and the Yiga fortress. Desert still felt like a desert, but I never groaned at the thought of going there.

that initial shot made me long for something we never got and i still can't really describe what that is. part of it may be that it's more densely detailed than the final game (which yeah obviously the wii u wouldn't have been able to handle that). part of it is definitely how much more alive and cozy the world seemed, with more peaceful settlements and populated areas. maybe it's the more saturated color palette which i really prefer over how washed out the final game is by comparison. i get the appeal of the world being in ruins to a degree, and of course i did greatly enjoy the game we got, but what i wouldn't give to be able to explore the game pre-calamity where all the ruined buildings are still standing. i think the comparison to ocarina of time's 7 year skip would make a lot more sense if the first game wasn't 100 years post-doomsday already. totk seems like its just an even worse situation now. hyrule in ocarina was very peaceful and alive because nothing bad had happened yet. i want to explore that version of breath of the wild. anyway, good video regardless of all that. hard to believe they conceived this world basically a decade ago and we're still here. hoping the next game after totk has a new setting and doesn't take another 6 years.

The disk with the pillars is in BotW. It looks like an early version of the shrine platforms, especially the ones in the DLC that start the shrine challenge for the motorbike. There's also the shrine platform at the Rito village where you have to use a Korok Leaf to play a melody before the shrine appears. Not to mention the Master Sword pedestal in Korok Forest (just larger), or the ceremony pavilion outside Hyrule Castle, or the shrine platform in Thundra Plateau (with the statues). From a distance with low graphics, that could be an early version of any of those (just lacking the details like everything else).

this was such a good point. i remember praying that the map would be the exact same in the sequel when it was announced. and putting it was the “adult part” of OoT is just brilliant. it’s the same hyrule but shits gonna be different. different enemies, different things to find, higher places and lower places. last time was just a mindless evil beast that had a lock on hyrule castle… but now it’s gannondorfs show. i’m so hyped for this game

I must admit, when I discovered in Ocarina of Time how the signboards react to the sword I involuntarily had to cackle like a little kid (I was 21 when I first played it). Breath of the Wild made me feel like a kid again, discovering nooks and crannies in my grandma's spacious yard.

Your reference to TOTK resembling the adult timeline in OoT was really inspiring! Ever since I heard TOTK would be reusing the same map, I was worried the new game wouldn’t have enough new content/exploration to capture my interest (not after spending 1500+ hours exploring the old map) but your OoT reference helped me to finally understand and accept TOTK as a beautiful continuation of the BoTW story! Thank you!

I have never once heard anyone address how much prettier the original pre-release footage was than the actual game. The colors are brighter, post processing effects look cleaner, and the resolution is higher. Nobody ever mentions this. Even in this video, the side by side is shocking.

Yeah the colors in BOTW were always something that bothered me personally. The art direction is good, but the colors are duller than they should be. The first reveal looks clean and super vibrant, I wish BOTW looked exactly like that.

I can confirm, I got a survey too. I don't remember if it had that question from the video but it was heavily based on Tears of the Kingdom's marketing like you said. It started off really generalized with like "which of these games have you played?" with a suspicious number of them being Zelda titles (going back to Wii, Wii U and 3DS as well) but also some non-Zelda Nintendo games. Then it started asking specifically about Tears of the Kingdom, how you heard about it, did you pre-order it, what are you looking forward to the most, etc. I specifically remember there was actually a question about whether they've shown too much or not enough of the game off so far (sorry, I told them I mostly was happy being surprised so the little they've shown is kind of a good amount :3)

I was just looking at the first teaser trailer the other day. It felt like years passed between its release and botws actual release. Amazing how they hadn't developed the actual game yet but they were able to visualize the game they wanted and years later had built a game so close to the original concept. Also it's interesting to see how they were thinking of zonai years before botws release, really early into development. I love in the teaser trailer there's civilian interaction within botws world, I wish they could've implemented something like that but hopefully we do get a similar mechanic in totk!

I really really hope that there's more story to Tears of the Kingdom. While Breath of the Wild was fun enough for me to spend a bunch of time in, it mostly felt like checking off a checklist of collectibles while in a beautiful world. The entire main quest amounts to "The princess is in danger, kill the bad guy" and almost none of the side quests had much more depth than that. I'd LOVE to play in a Zelda world that makes you care about the people you interact with like Majora's Mask or Twilight Princess, that has interesting history to locations beyond "This existed before the calamity, but it doesn't now." The world is so great, but this time around I think I'm going to need more than fetch quests and endless collectibles

@@gregallan4291 Like I said, I enjoyed the game just fine. I just wish there was some depth to the story and interactions. The reason I call it a Checklist kind of story is that well over 3/4 of the side quests (not going to go and review them all but I'm sure I'm close) are just fetch quests. "Go get such and such sword," "I need this soup ingredient," "I want a butterfly," "Go collect 900 Koroks" and the only reward you get for any of them is to get a little "Complete" logo on your quest log. Most of them don't have any story and you're not doing them for any reason that is even important to the character giving you the quest. I would just like to get some more narrative reward is all. To me the golden standard for narrative open world is Witcher 3.

This made me wonder about how the Faron region in general was developed. Because the weird thing about the Faron Woods in this game is that despite clearly being a distinct area and mentioned as such in dialogue, the dense forest area is actually split between the Faron Grasslands and Necluda. There's no Faron Woods region. But, that gate with the Zonai pillars in this video, called "Faron Woods" on the map, is actually called "Faron Woods Entrance" in Japanese and other languages. So perhaps the jungle and Lake Floria area was created differently.
