We have a small neon tester that you clip on with an alligator clamp. Told my daughter we'd come out after dark to look at it... she said "if you just cup your hand around it you can see it flash" and POW.... hit her right on the forehead as she bent in to demonstrate for me. Whelp, the fence works.
Well I tell you what they are pretty nice I guess. But if your fence is going through tall grass and it gets wet it'll tell you it's not working. One guy said they used to just hang fluorescent light bulbs on their fence. I'm going to have to try that
We had one of the early galleger lights, it worked for quite a while. Had it under the eves at the neighbors barn. Early morning, you could see it from the road. Now setup!
These on the smaller fencer I guess you're supposed to check at night on the way home from the bar. But the bigger fencers you can see anytime from a long ways away.
I bought one of these and returned it because it works by using power from the fence and shorting it out so the manufacturer of my charger said not to use it
That's right well take it. Yesterday afternoon in the panhandle they had 4 inches of hail. Looked like winter. If you have a hot enough fencer you can see them no prob any time.
I would not want the light pollution, and definitely would not want this light distraction 24/7. My thoughts would be to have it to activate when there IS a problem and NOT when it is working properly.
It really hasn't been a problem for me. Obviously I don't have them mounted right next to my window. I think you have to put them in a place that wasn't going to annoy you. For example, I was concerned about it on my solar fencer and mounted it on the side of the post where it would shield my neighbor's house. But at night really it's no more of a distraction than fireflies.
Electric fence light is the name. These are for fencers 3 joules and up. If you use on a solar powered fencer it needs to be at least a 12 volt fencer. The man that makes these sells them on eBay. I believe he's from Tennessee. Real helpful guy if you need him. I saw valley vet sells them too and maybe even Amazon.
