I loved nintendogs as a kid! I had a black and white dog named Oreo, and he was my star dog, winning every competition. Though I admit, that started to go to my head. I told myself if he lost even one competition, I would get rid of him. I guess I turned into some pageant mom or something 😭 one day he lost, and I got rid of him, just like I told myself I would, thinking I could get him back once I cooled down, and no, he was gone forever 😭 I’m so sorry Oreo
your channel its literally my confort media like i love all the games you talk about, love the format and how you talk, love that they're long but not too long i love everything and I'll eat it up every single time
When I lived in a childrens home I borrowed Nintendogs to a girl with autism who's hyperinterest was animals. Ended up gifting it to her when she moved out, she loved the game so much. :)
I'm autistic and my special interest is animals as well (I'm on my way to becoming a veterinarian) and I'm sure she cherishes those memories and is very grateful for you.
I remember going to Pokemon's 10th Anniversary convention in Phoenix and I brought my DS to walk my dog on it. A man saw me holding a DS and I was intimidated (as I was 10) but he said his wife asked him to walk her dog for her and he wanted to know if I had Nintendogs so that our dogs could "walk together" to get the rewards and such. I thought him doing that for her was really precious, and I'm glad it ended up innocent. I'm happy you visited Nintendogs, as much as Peanut Butter did to frustrate you with the competitions. ;;u;; I had no idea there was a Japan only Shiba Inu and friends! My US copy is where I got a shiba inu first, then a few years later I got a real one.
It's so ironic to me to see the pink ds lite being so popular. I remember a commercial for the special edition pink ds (original) and begged my parents for it. My dad somehow got me a Japanese version of the original nintendo ds from ebay since he could not find the special ds in pink. To this day it's one of my favorite gifts I've gotten. I am editing since I see the reference to the bundle I asked for! Wow glad to know it wasn't a fever dream
I recently started playing nintendogs again and it has been such a relaxing game to mess around in and spend time with. It's been such a great time revisiting it.
I remember the reviews at the time of Nintendogs + Cats. They were all critical of the fact that cats were about as tacked on in the gameplay as they were in the title.
Just when I thought the video was over, you started covering the sequels! I was genuinely so excited. I fully agree that the AR-card thing on the 3DS is... unnecessary at best, and actively hindering the gameplay experience at worst, I don't blame you for not doing the obedience trials lmao
Would love to see more old DS Games from you. Maybe an old Winx Club DS Game or the Brain Training Game with Dr Kawashima. Nintendogs was also my childhood. Love your Videos.
I know the DS mic has problems but I really don't think it was as much of an issue in general as you might think? Not to be like 'get good' but I remember winning obedience championship with multiple dogs as a 10 year old with my big boy grey base model DS, and I remember my friends winning as well. I think maybe you're underestimating the amount of repetition and reward over time needed to get the tricks consistent, or maybe there's just a mic issue with your DS in particular? Again I know it isn't perfect but it wasn't like a huge insurmountable bug
Also the mic in app that's used for animal crossing and mario kart is very much an add-on and most people who play those games don't even know about the feature I'm fairly sure. I think Nintendo's fine with leaving it there sort of as a weird novelty but they absolutely would not make it necessary for the core gameplay of any game for Switch
I absolutely loved this video!! Nintendogs was one of my favorite games I loved taking the dogs for walks and I was so thrilled when my nintendog discovered the firefighter helmet and it allows me to adopt the Dalmatian breed because I had the Nintendogs Lab and Friends I remember playing this game for hours what a wonderful video can’t wait to see more video game play throughs your commentary is comical love it
I was so in love with this game. I used to have a black and white husky named Lucky; and "we" won over 99 agility trial games. It wouldn't go pass 100. But ironically years later I got a husky. Fun times
Oh dear god the microphone feature drove my parents nuts. I was never able to win the masters level obedience tournaments because their recognition was so fickle. Now I would just cheat by playing a recording
I also remember seeing the pink ds lite bundle at the store and wanting it SOO bad :( my mom said it was too expensive tho and I already had the rose gold ds lite so eh
I still have a ROM for Nintendogs on my phone on a DS Emulator. (DraStic) If Nintendo doesn't bring Nintendogs to mobile, then i will do it myself. xD A thing i want to add about the AR cards, i never had any tracking issues like you seemed to have with them. But that could be because i always used the physical cards that came bundled with my 3DS system, not my phone screen with a picture of them, which might mess with it because of it being lit up pixels that the camera's are looking at. It only yelled at me when my room was too dim when trying to look at the cards, so maybe your screen was too bright or something like that.
You've just brought me back to the day I first played Nintendogs. It's something I think about every now and then. It was winter. I knew my dad had gone to buy the DS and the game while I was at school. So I ran back home. Of course our yard was full of snow with ice underneath. So I slipped and landed perfectly on my back in front of our door. But I didn't even care because I got to play the game for the first time soon after. Labrador and friends was the version I had. Later down the line I also got Nintendogs + Cats because of course I did. I LOVED the Shiba Inus, as soon as I unlocked the breed, it became my favorite. From that point on most of my dogs were Shibas. I also adored the Shetland sheepdogs, Huskies and German shepherds. Sure, at times I got frustrated with the stupid obedience competitions, but I loved my dogs and I miss them.
I used to complain a whole lot about having a dog. I wanted the damn dog. Then my parents went and bought me a DSi with Nintendogs. I LOVED it even though I didn’t know how to properly play. Fast forward like a month and my parents got an actual dog. Haven’t touched the game in 14+ years
Another absolutely perfect comfort video, thank you very much for the love and effort you put into your videos 🌸🐶 I got my first Nintendo DS (the light pink one ugh) in 2007 and I couldnt even fully write or read at that time but I sure loved the little husky named Fluffy I had in my DS, that dog was everything to me.
I arrived at your channel, because you were on the Nontendo podcast. Didn’t know who you were until then, and I feel so bad for that 😳. I’m loving your content, and arrived here to give this video a little extra love! 😂
I remember my friends having a ds and nintendogs and me being kinda jealous, but then again we did have a ps2 in our home so I was just playing different games........... so it's actually really fun to see what it was all about with your video, thank you for doing all of this!!
i remember being a kid and playing nintendogs and not knowing that quenched meant that the dog didn’t mean any water; i thought it meant it was dehydrated and was so panicked that my dog wouldn’t drink 😭
29:06 other Nintendo franchises like smash and pokemon have incorporated nintendogs elements into the games since then like the Pokemon are a lot more interactive now you can play with them and stuff
Ngl, I got my first Nintedogs game like a week ago for my ndsi and I can't wait to play it! Edit: your cat in the background laying down/watching you play with digital dogs is so cute 😂❤
I remember owning Best Friends. Ended up choosing a dachshund and named her Lilo. She was my ace and champion with the disc compactions. 💙 Lucky, a Labrador, was for agility.
I had Dachshund and Friends as a kid, but I lost it when I moved. Thankfully I found Best Friends at a thrift store for 4 bucks a few years ago so I've been playing that one on and off
this made me want to buy nintendogs and cats. I loved nintendogs to the core when i first got it (i was 6 or 7) but when the new game came out i was too ashamed to ask for it because i was older ??? stupid but i will be honoring this long lost wish of mine thank you for the huge nostalgia wave
I had a cavalier named June Bug, because my uncle bought the wrong version 😅. I wanted the dachshund and friends so i could get the shih tzu to make my dog Junior loool
This video may be 3 months old but I just found my old version of nintendogs Dalmatian and friends and I reset my old save and started over. The mic is very triggering but it’s still so fun!
I used to love Nintendogs soo much and played all the time, now I can’t even pick it up since my brother accidentally gave away my favorite and first dog 😭😭 it just hurts too much 😢
8:47 I also have to say Tricks multiple times before my dog will listen and that’s in real life so this game is pretty accurate As well as mistaking tricks for other tricks
I think another technical reason why there's no Switch Nintendogs is the near lack of touchscreen gameplay, which from what I remember of Nintendogs is a bigger part than vocal gameplay 🤔 but well it's been about 10 years since I've played it so I could remember wrong 😂
I actually replayed the games since I had them. I both of the japanese and english versions of Dachshund and friends. You still keep the wiener dog on the box art like pokemon, but they switched around the dogs for the international versions. You got the husky which was exclusive to international versions.
I cannot express to you how badly I want a nintendogs game on the Switch I honestly don't even care how much it would cost. While I do agree that it most likely won't happen due to the lack of a mic I am sad to see that the company isn't willing to alter the game even slightly for that. Tricks could be done with a series of button pushes, using the joycons to mimic movements, etc or like you said they could come out with a specialized headphone set that includes a mic for the game which I honestly would not mind purchasing. I'm confused as to why they didn't include a mic in the first place considering you can download games like Fortnite onto the switch which have mic compatibility.
3:44 is a prime example of everything I love about this video, Nintendogs galore whilst playing Street Marker in the background. Also I’m curious, has anyone discussed Best Friends as a Nintendogs edition?
They should make a new Nintendogs for the upcoming Switch 2 with these new dog breeds: Puli Pit bull Great Pyrenees Westie Australian cattle dog Akita Samoyed Jindo Kintamani Australian terrier Border collie
Dude, I kid you not, I used to have a dog that would get around 90 points in the disc trials. No matter how far I threw it, they would ALWAYS catch it.
I was gifted my nds lite at Christmas when i was 9 and to this day that I'm 26 i still have my very first pet on Nintendogs. It's a black lab named Toby! So yes i had the Lab and friends and my nds lite was metallic grey which i thought was SO cool. It made me believe it was a mature color because my child brain linked it to cars LMAO
Cats, you say? Perhaps you should give PurrPals a try! Similar to Nintendogs, but different gameplay, and of course lots of cats. Definitely an interesting DS era game..
My first Nintendogs was Lab and Friends. I played it a whole month but ended up selling it years after not playing it. Recently I got the Dalmation and friends just to feel that nostalgia but it just reminded of why I stopped playing: my impatience lmao 😂
Hi Liss, I love your videos and your my favorite gamer RU-vidr and is what has me feel like I could be comfortable as a cozy gamer and also as a girl gamer, but also I think that if you haven't already played this that from your videos you would really like Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Liviathan, it's an adventure game with a emotional pokemon twist, it's basically where you go around different parts of realms saving different creatures from dark emotions and bosses that touch important topics, it's on Xbox one, Xbox series X|S, Nintendo Switch,PS4, and PC. You should try it out, it has great lore, I hope you try it out!
There was a video on RU-vid which explained it perfectly, but the original Nintendogs came out in 2005, at a time where smartphones simply didn't exist. There weren't many entertainment devices that could be contained in your handbag, aside from handheld game consoles like the DS. For Nintendogs in itself, the game was supposed to be played for twenty minutes per day, and that's why there was a limit on what you could do for one day. It was closer to a Tamagochi than a regular game. The game was also a novelty in itself for its use of the Nintendo DS hardware, with touch screen and the mic (sure, it's considered dogshit nowadays, but at the time it was impressive !). Nintendogs was the closest to a tech demo the Nintendo DS had, and that's probably why it was picked to be in bundles in Europe. Nowadays, this type of games would be criticized for having gameplay as shallow as a puddle. When people want to play a game, they are expecting so spend two hours on it, to really get immersed in gameplay. Having a touchscreen and mic isn't as impressive as it was in the 2000s, and most video consoles won't even bother including it... see the Switch. If you have twenty minutes to spare, chances are you're going to pull out your phone instead to scroll your social medias. And that's why Nintendogs + Cats failed, it got released right after the iPhone 4. At that time, the public for these games had moved on to play games on their phones. Nintendo didn't predict the smartphone era, and that's why they included features like Streetpass, which were already dated at release. Why would I bother bringing my 3DS in public when I had an iPhone ? Doesn't explain why Nintendo didn't release a Nintendogs on phone, sure. But honestly, they probably dropped the franchise, as the last game came out 13 years ago. Developping an app is probably more costly in the long run than selling cartridges as you have to maintain servers, and there's no guarantee people would stick to the game beyond trying it for nostalgia.
