Learn Revit in this Revit Tutorial showing how to model a Bubble like the Allianz Arena by Herzog & De Meuron in Munich, Germany.
This Revit Tutorial works in Revit 2020, Revit 2019, Revit 2018 and earlier versions of Revit. It shows you easily how to use a range of tools and touches on a lot of topics in Revit that are very helpful including families, in-place families, using pattern-based curtain panel, divide surface, flexing your families, as well as making temporary dimensions permanent, flexing families, family types, family templates. We look also at materials, material properties, material by category, cladding and the three dots in Revit. The material is PTFE/ETFE.

TRANSCRIPT:
What's up everybody and welcome back in
this video we're gonna be modelling a
bubble facade for a stadium similar to
that of the Allianz Arena in Munich and
we're gonna do that in three basic steps
so the first step is to create an
in-place mass of the facade then we're
gonna create a pattern based curtain
panel family and lastly we're gonna load
that curtain panel into the mass and
make some adjustments so the first step
we're gonna create the in-place mass of
the facade and get that surface ready so
I'm gonna do that by activating the 3d
view and here from our 3d view I just
want to click top to go to a plan type
you then massing & site, then in place mass
give this a name like facade and
I want to set the workplane to make sure
we're on level one and click start and
radius arc and I'm just gonna click and
drag and say make this 70 meters and
drag this out to create a bit of a curve
implant hit escape and orbit around next
want to place a point so point element
and now we want to draw on face and I
want to just pick the midpoint of this
arc then set the work plane to that
point and pick the start end radius arc
again and we're gonna draw the profiling
section so something like that escape
alright if you want you can click the
front here and draw kind of in more of
an elevation but 3d view is OK as we're
doing a kind of roughly for now now what
I hold down control and select both of
these and come up to create form and
create a solid form that's created our
basic surface and we can select this
surface divide surface to create the
grid and that's about all we need to do
for now we're going to make some more
adjustments afterwards once we've loaded
the panel into this family
so I'm gonna come over to file new
family and we're gonna pick this metric
curtain panel pattern based family go
open and in here we've got three main
parts so the first is a bit of a pattern
grid so it's currently sits a rectangle
which is fine
we've got some adaptive points four of
these or reference points or placement
points and then we've got some reference
lines between these points what I want
to do firstly set this to top and select
this grid by clicking and then I'm just
going to change the horizontal space
into something like 6 meters just so we
can see the direction of these panels
then I'm just going to come back to a
bit more of a 3d view and click point
element and make sure that we're drawing
on face and then just pick the two
midpoints these lines hit escape and
then I want to select those two points
and draw a spline through the points and
take on his reference line then we want
to come over here and click point
element make sure we're drawing our face
again and pick the midpoint of this line
and then I want to draw a line set the
work plane set to this point and draw
this line up and we're gonna make this a
type parameter anyway so it doesn't
really matter exactly how I would draw
it but something like that seems like a
for now hit escape twice and select the
line we're gonna make that a reference
as well and then I'm gonna pick a point
and add that point
so there now I just want to select one
holding down control two and three
reference points and create a spline
through those 3d points and come out
here and we might actually have to just
select that line and we'll make that a
reference also okay so we've basically
got all our reference lines and our
points in place now so I'm just going to
try and flex this a little bit before we
start before we actually add the surface
so just selecting this adaptive point
it's going to pick some of these and
drag up and down and we can see that the
spline is still behaving properly it's
connected to the right points
and it seems to be adjusting and
adapting pretty nicely so it's going to
control head back to here I want to add
a parameter now to the length of this
line so I'm going to select this line

Hello.. when I draw the vertical line no measure is shown so I can't create the parameter.. what can be happening?
