This is the follow up 'Repair & Assembly' video to the 'Part 1' disassembly of the Seiko 6139-6005 Pogue. There was quite extensive jeweling work done on this watch, and it even threw us a surprise that we didn't see during initial disassembly. This is my second video on RU-vid, so hopefully the production value will be better than the first one. Thanks!!
edit:
I realized that the footage of the wheel train lubrication was left out. Just know that this was done after the balance was installed, and before the watch was put on the timegrapher. Sorry for leaving that piece of video out!
Behind the scenes of RU-vid content, there's dedication and hard work. If you enjoy the channel, I'd kindly ask your consideration in joining this effort on Patreon. Excellent video. There are many elements that make this a great demonstration of watchmaking. In-depth demonstration of each section is made even better by your commentary, which in itself is gives so much insight of your knowledge and the systems needed to attain the standards. Especially the way you talk about what you are doing and why you do what you have done. There is no condescension, just a willingness to give information. Showing the cleaning of the Shatone and oil placement was brilliant. As a relative beginner to watchmaking I was able to understand and comprehend your instructional parts and acknowledge the content of the discussion. I'm sure you will move on to the elite band of watchmakers demonstrating high level skills. Thank you.

Thank you Slim. I'm working on the next one right now. I'd hoped to be further along, but I was involved in a minor car accident this weekend. Thankfully no injuries, but my time has been spent talking with the other driver's insurance company and trying to get preparations in place to deal with all of that nonsense! It's taken time away from my bench unfortunately. I'll hopefully have the filming completed within a few days, and will begin editing. Again I really appreciate the comment, and thanks for watching.

Great video! I dug around and found my high school graduation watch......this yellow 6139-6005 that I got in June 1972! I put it on for the first time in 40 years today and it's self-winding and I was able to quick-set the day and date. The minute counter centers on zero but the second hand is .5 seconds "ahead" (damn). The bezel is in beautiful shape but the crystal definitely has a lot of abrasions and some light scratches. I'm looking forward to seeing if the day and date change correctly tonight and what one-days-worth of runtime looks like as far as being fast, slow or on time. I'm proud of having this watch and what is possible to bring it back to as-new. Thank you Adam!

awesome job. in my opinion, the only unique thing that every single watch has, are the scratches and dings on the case. By removing them we are removing a unique character and charm of the watch. you have done the right thing by leaving them as they are. thumbs up!
@WeekendWatchRepair
@WeekendWatchRepair Год назад
Thank you Mike. I would agree with you for the most part. I do think there are circumstances when it is acceptable to do some case work. As a general rule, if the watch has any significant historical or monetary value I usually will leave the case alone, and just simply clean it. If it is a watch isn't necessarily valuable, but I just like it personally, sometimes I'll do some case work. Obviously when this occurs I do my best to keep the integrity of the case intact, paying close attention to not round the edges, etc. Thank you for your comment and for watching the video!

That’s fantastic! Those are great looking watches. I’ve got one more 6139 Blue Pogue and another 6138-0040 Bullhead still left to complete. I didn’t want to do the blue Pogue next, only because it’s basically the exact same watch with a different dial. While I’d love to have it up and running, it would be pretty redundant for viewers of the channel at this point in time. I’ll get it done sometime down the road once I’ve got some other videos posted. I’ve got really great Daini Seikosha 6206 on the bench I am filming at the moment, and then will probably do the Bullhead afterwards. Thanks for the comment, and great job on your watch!!

I have two (Bulova with an11ATRCD movement and a Vulcain Cricket) that need repaired, and a video would be awesome. Both have broken balance staffs. Sadly, there are not that many watch repair videos of alarm watches. A few. Just a thought from a subscriber. Keep up the cool content.

I have a Pogue that I bought in 1977. It was a drawer queen for 40 years. I decided to have it restored because this movement is above my current skill level. I had a terrible experience with the watchmaker that I chose. It took a year and I don’t think he even regulated it. I think I can do with my time grapher however I’d like to know if you recommend regulating the rate first or the beat error? Thanks in advance.
@WeekendWatchRepair
@WeekendWatchRepair 6 месяцев назад
I begin with beat error, than adjust the rate afterwards. You may have to go back and make small adjustments to the beat error again during the process, but I try to get that dialed in as good as I can before adjusting the rate.

Love the content, great video! Maybe you could help me a bit. I have a few 6139-6001, and one of them was a bit noisy, and when I looked into it, I found out that the wierd boise is coming from the osscialting wieght. Since it is consists of two parts (the weight and a triangleish part) which are held togehter two bolts or something. So my quiestion is how can I fix/tighten this two screws/bolts? Thanks in advance!
@WeekendWatchRepair
@WeekendWatchRepair 9 месяцев назад
If I'm understanding you correctly, those bolts are probably rivets holding those two pieces of the oscillating weight together. I've never had that particular type come loose before, but after viewing the video footage it would appear that they might be able to be slightly tightened using a staking set. You might want to give that a shot.

Nice work. I service and restore these movements as well. You are the first person I have seen other than myself to jewel the upper chronograph bridge. I noted you replaced the mainspring. .Finding OE mainsprings for these 6139s and 6138s is near non existent. Curious what mainspring you are using. Is it a generic GR or something else you had made up specifically for these movements? You do things almost exactly the same way I do things on these movements. Interesting to see different watchmaker styles. I noted your placement of the return spring for the hammer was oriented incorrectly around the upper chronograph bridge screw down. There is a small stump on the end of the column wheel spring that the hammer spring is supposed to be wrapped around. I think it will certainly work the way you have it but that is not per the manual. Good TG numbers. All that time you spent inspecting and adjusting end shake paid off.
@WeekendWatchRepair
@WeekendWatchRepair Год назад
Hey Supercruze, thanks so much for your reply. Regarding the hammer return spring, I guess I'm not seeing what you're talking about. The spring is mounted correctly according to my documentation. I also just checked it against another 6139B that I had and they are the same. If you pause the video at 26:17 it shows a pretty good view of the spring installed. There is a different hammer return spring between the 6139A and 6139B movements. This one is a 6139B. The spring for the 6139A starts at the hammer and ends up around a stump on the end of the column wheel spring. I do not believe this one is installed incorrectly (I could be wrong though), it's just that it's different from the earlier 6139A hammer spring. Regarding the mainsprings, I know completely where you are coming from. I ran into the same problem trying to source mainsprings for these. I did find a solution that I'm happy to share with you though. All of the data I can find anywhere references GR2534X (from CousinsUK) for this mainspring. The problem is that although the height, width, and length are all correct, the inner coil for the barrel arbor is slightly larger than one would like and you'd have to manually close that loop a little bit to get the proper fit. I found the solution in the mainspring for an ETA 2892-2. It is the exact same dimensions as the original spring, and has a slightly smaller inner coil that fits the barrel arbor much better. This one can be found on CousinsUK with # GR25341X. Hope this helps. I really appreciate you watching the video and commenting. Thanks so much!
@Supercruze
@Supercruze Год назад
@@WeekendWatchRepair - Hey, thanks for the reply. Check your disassembly vid at 17.21 and look at the orientation of the hammer return spring as you disassemble and then compare it to your assembly vid at 26.17. Slightly different orientation where you hook the spring around the upper chrono bridge screw down. No worries, I have seen some movements assembled this way but I am not sure it is right. Thank you for the notes on mainsprings. I too have tried the spring for an ETA2892-2 and it will fit nicely into the barrel but I have not always gotten consistently higher amplitude numbers. It may be due to the type of braking grease I am using. Next go at it, I may try the Kluber P125 braking grease instead for a better hold in the barrel wall. Nice vid and keep up the great work.

@@Supercruze I see what you are saying. You are absolutely right. I'm not sure what I was thinking, but I did the exact same thing on the Bullhead video I just uploaded. Someone else mentioned it there too. I'm going to address both of those watches tonight or tomorrow and get those springs set correctly. They seem to be working fine as they are, but now it is bugging me that I know about it! I went back and checked my photo records on 3 other recent 6138B and 6139B watches that I've worked on, and all of those were done correctly. I don't know why I did these 2 like that, but they'll get corrected. Thanks a bunch for letting me know.
