I could talk about the Springtime of the Peoples in Germany for a hundred years Instead, let me jus say: I actually really like this flag.

29:30 Load up some of your earlier saves and see if Britain has a claim on Shaozhou there at any point. If they do, pass along to the devs that the "treaty port rebelling creates a claim on the whole state for the treaty port holder" thing has not been fixed yet. Alex told me that the devs had done a lot of work trying to discourage the AI from taking states in China unless someone else has already taken states in China, and that one little bug/oddity/thing with treaty ports rebelling creating claims on the whole state is derailing all that work. I have mentioned this to Alex directly but, OPB, you have a lot more sway with them than I do.

bonus points if you mention that by discouraging taking them in China they just move to take whole states from Japan

Maffei has nothing to do with Peter Maffay, but with the bavarian industrialist Maffei family. He founded and owned "Lokomotiven- und Maschinenfabrik J.A. Maffei", which spearheaded railroad industrialization in Bavaria. He was also co-founder of the Hypo Bank, built the "Bayerischer Hof" and a lot of railroad bridges. His company went bankkrupt in 1930 and was acquired by Krauß & Comp. to form "Kraus Maffei". That one and various former parts of it still exist, under varied ownerships and names. "Kraus Maffei AG" or "Kraus Maffei Wegmann GmbH". They build railroad engines (legendary KM1 Diesellok), tanks (Leopard 2) or injection molding machines for rubber and plastics (Kraus Maffei AG). And yes, during the Third Reich they built panzers, and were big beneficiaries of forced labor from the Konzentrationslager or POWs.

This happened in Brasil. The secreto Police tried to kill a journalist and it was a major scandal that ended with the suicide of the president Getúlio Vargas

i really enjoyed the delightful, articulate history lesson toward the beginning about the "tribes of bavaria" (or whatever), etc. obviously it's a region that is particularly close to home, and thus something you are very knowledgable about, but any time you have a free moment to opine on random bits of history like that (definitely works well in the roleplay context), i'm all ears! =)

Joseph Anton von Maffei was actually a Bavarian industrialist: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Anton_von_Maffei His name lives on in KraussMaffei (a machine producing company) and KraussMaffei Wegmann, who produce military vehicles, including the Leopard tank series. :-)

actualy, the SPD got its name in 1890. Alternativly ADAV (Allgemeiner Deutscher Arbeiterverein), SDA (Sozialdemokratische Arbeiterpartei) or SAP (Sozialistische Arbeiterpartei) would be more correct. Also im missing many possible parties who had a great influence in the german territories like DFP, NLP or Zentrum. But you can only make so much out of a game, i guess^^
@Aoderic
@Aoderic Год назад
Just to add, it also wouldn't make sense to call it SPD, Sozialdemokatische Partei Deutchlands, since there isn't a unified Germany yet. Süddeutscher Arbeiterpartei, might make more sense. And yes they haven't programmed procedural name generation for parties (yet?). So they should allow the player to manually change names in game, or hopefully someone will make a mod for that.

This one is a lot of fun; I've been reading about the French Revolution lately and it struck me just how quickly everything kept changing. Obviously this wasn't to the same scale (it was a much clearer victory for the revolutionaries so far), but the rapid pace of change was definitely captured by the Springtime of the Peoples. This is the first time in awhile you've been playing the "good guy" come to think of it, if it's a question of who you'd want to unify Germany, Prussia or your South German Federation.

I really admire your style of play and I've been attempting it myself but I'm not really sure when to allow rival factions/ideologies to come out on top without breaking the narrative. How do you view, for example, allowing the Rural folk to have a radical leader? Do you view that as the king himself saying "Alright, fine" or do you view that decision as happening logically without any intervention from the king/government, and your pressing of the button is as if an active decision was never made?

I want to write about my experience with Springtime of People as Germany. I started as Prussia, formed Großdeutschland and planned to become a conservative democracy. Then the Springtime of People appeared because the leader of Agrarians had become radical. I was ok with it because it explains how my Germany has become democratic. After some time, I invited Intelligentsia into the government to implement census suffrage, which triggered Path to Liberalism event, which allowed me to change Agrarians ideology to reformist. So I closed this journal entry with Victoria of the Reaction by liberalising, lol. But it was only beginning - the real Springtime of People hadn't even started. The real troubles appeared when I started getting Echoes of the Revolution events from all of my neighbours, that at some point led to that weird situation when Intelligentsia, Industrialists, Agrarians, Trade Unions and Petite Bourgeoise were led by radicals and Armed Forces by a nihilist, and these radicals controlled 80% of the clout. Just one example of how german governments during this time were unstable: radicals were trying to implement land reform, which radicalised industrialists, so they left the government, and it had become illegitimate. Kaiser appointed a new conservative government only for it to dismiss it after a few months because petite bourgeoises became radicals, and the government became illegitimate once again, so Kaiser appointed radicals again. After some time, Kaiser was tired of this political instability and refused to appoint a radical government, even if they controlled 80% of the clout. A conservative government was only legitimate (26) because of low taxes. They couldn't pass any laws without igniting a revolution, so their strategy was to wait and see (and suppress radicals because we have secret police and censorship for a reason). And that gamble played off. After the first election cycle, armed forces and petite bourgeoise became traditionalists and royalists, but the government still were not wholly legitimate. Junkers calmed down after these radical reforms, so they decided to further liberalise - enact appointment bureaucrats, which took away some influence from Intelligentsia and gave it to petite bourgeoise and freed some bureaucracy points to improve our secret police. Then conservatives spent another election cycle suppressing ALL the opposition and finally won new elections with 50% of the votes. Germany finally has a responsible and legitimate government. That was hell.

You probably know this already, but this whole situation with the springtime of nations and leaders backing down or at least relenting their opposition to reform is to me quite reminiscent of the passing of the 1848 constitution of the Netherlands. Whereas Willem II declared in 1844 that he'd rather 'climb the scaffold willingly' than sign a reform, the unrest of 1848 had him - in his own words - turn from 'very conservative, to very liberal overnight'. Recent research seems to suggest it wasn't just fear for revolution that brought about his change of heart though (which to me seems quite convincing). It seems Willem II was being blackmailed for being bisexual, and when a group of liberals learned of this they used it to push through the 1848 constitution reform.
