This did not work for my newly diagnosed cat. He had diarrhea pretty bad. I also did NOT like the warning label. Within a week of being on insulin,Rocky was a brand new cat!

Just like with humans, not every medication is going to be a good fit. This is why working with your veterinarian is important.

My vet said he did not recommend the liquid. And she is super hard to pill. Also he had some major caveats. But it seems a good solution for those who can't inject for various reasons.

Yep, we are expecting it in our clinic in 2-3 months! This is really exciting.

My cat started on Bexacat 17 days ago. He seems to feel very well,.........playing with his toys and paper bags. I do believe he is drinking more water than would be considered normal. I am shocked at how easy it is to give him the pill each morning. I thought it would be much more difficult. He goes to the vet in a few days for a recheck,.......fingers crossed that he can stay on Bexacat.

my cat was diagnosed today, and he's very healthy otherwise. I'm gonna reach out to a vet tomorrow. I'm holding off on starting insulin until then.

Our cat JUST started diabetes within the last 2-3 weeks…he was diagnosed last night…he leaked “water” one day, just a little bit I had noticed he was drinking A LOT of water! THEN since the day before yesterday, he’s been leaking a lot of “water! They also gave him amox. Antibiotics also…have to take him back on Sunday to tell them which way we want to go with meds…oral or insulin shots…he is up there in age 😔 TY for the info! 😊

How wonderful for the cat if you're middle class and not disabled and poor, struggling to survive.

Our vet is sticking with insulin. He told us the drug IS VERY EXPENSIVE. He thinks the drug may not be very effective

Every vet has their own insights into individual cat and owner needs. Price can be one of those considerations, unfortunately.

@@fncky my vet said this drug is ineffective with out cat too. do you think we should get a 2nd opinion?

@@sheikh1403 Follow your vet’s advice. These are novel drugs and while approved, there are some very tight guidelines.

That's what I was wondering. Seems like people on limited incomes have very limited options. I doubt very many on fixed incomes could afford to do insulin either

I was really hoping to put my newly diagnosed cat on this medication, but the vet said it won't be available until March or April, which was too long to wait.

Don't fret it too much. With the advances in understanding Feline Diabetes some cats are able to still find remission through proper diet. I have seen cats start insulin and change the diet and within a few months no longer need insulin. Talk to your vet about diet and look into the website FelineDiabetes.com for guidance. Learn to hometest and train your cat to look forward to shots and test time. It can be done!

@@fncky Not always . Some cats are difficult to get on the right dose. That's not fretting but be worried

Hi! Thanks for this information! Would you know if obsessive behavior such as repetitive water requests (wants to drink shower water) and frequent crying is normal with diabetes?
@fncky
@fncky 11 месяцев назад
Polydipsia, repetitive water requests, can indicate several diseases ranging from diabetes to chronic renal failure. In other cases, like wanting to drink from the shower tap, indicates your cat may just want 'fresh water,' not bowl water. If that is the case, a water fountain of their own stops the behavior. Lastly, if your cat has not been to the vet in a while they are the best place to start before making any changes.

@fncky Thanks for the reply! Yes, we have her under a Vet's care. So far, testing revealed only Diabetes. Will get her a fountain and see if it helps. Thx again!

My poor old cat was just diagnosed 2 days ago. Two shots a day, we are still adjusting, but he does not like it.
@fncky
@fncky Год назад
Awe. Sorry to hear that. Most cats will adjust to their new lifestyle with a bit of positive reinforcement training. Start by having a typical place for them to get their shot. Feed them there. And reward them there with high value treats after the shot. See my video of Shoot the Cat for an example of successful training.

My cat was diagnosed 6 weeks ago and on insulin for a short time . Can we use the pills ? He is very healhty besides this
@fncky
@fncky 8 месяцев назад
It is my understanding that once they are started on insulin, they are no longer a candidate for this medication. But, as always as your own veterinarian for further guidance.

How much does it cost? Is it possible that some people won't be able to afford this drug?
@fncky

You will want to check with your veterinarian.
