If it were me, I'd fill your roof with solar. Power is addicting and you can never have too much. The weight of a couple extra 200w panels is insignificant. You can easily trim a little weight elsewhere if you must or shift some weight to your truck. We have a 35 ft. motorhome and carry our heavy tools, oil, chemicals, etc. in our toad to save weight for our big solar system. I thought you were going to rack your solar array like the CCRV system in your recent video. Your Big Beard Beast batteries (say that 3 times) fit perfectly in that cabinet, like you had it planned. We had space issues too, so chose to mount our Sungold Power all-in-one 5,000w inverter/100a charge controller/charger on the wall of our bedroom, as we put our 48v battery under our bed. Cool 24v system. Kudos on your installation creativity. We went with 2 stand-alone systems, a 12v and a 48v using raw prismatic cells to build our own batteries, saving us both money and space vs pre-built batteries. You should be super happy with your sweet system as it uses quality components and was put together by pros. We designed and built everything ourselves, which wasn't quick or easy as we're old farts. But doing all the work ourselves, using quality lessor known components we were able to save quite a bit of money. Our system consists of 5,020 watts of solar, 23.5Kwh of batteries (a little more capacity than 3, 7.2kwh "beast" batteries) and 6,000 total watts of 120v inverted power, including all the racking, wires, breakers, electronics, etc. to make it work for only $10k. If you add in the cost of our EG-4 12k 28.5 Seer-2 mini split heat pump, an Easy Start for our front A/C and sealing the entire roof with Henry's Tropical lifetime roof coating make it an even $12k for everything. Though this sounds high, our system allows us to run our RV just like we were plugged into a power pedestal at an RV park, with 24/7 air conditioning and heating from our super-efficient heat pump, all powered by the sun. We haven't plugged into a power pole in over a year and a half and never need to run our generator anymore (except to exercise it). We're in NC now where it's been raining on and off all day, yet it's still hot and humid, requiring us to run our A/C units. Our batteries are at 100% now at 3:00 pm, as our high voltage system can even keep up with our power demands in the rain.

Thank you for watching our video and supporting our channel. That sounds like an amazing system, great work on the self install. We are adamant that we have to be heavily involved in our installations so we know every inch of it. We are going to do a fully our video once we get the DC-DC Chargers installed. We are waiting on the 12-24x 15 and we are going to install two for 720 watts off the truck. We also added two 400 watt (800 total) deployable panels. That would give us 3,120 watts in the perfect world that doesn’t exist.

Thank you for watching our solar build video. We did make do with two pantry shelves gone, we have a solution for the heat in the pantry that is pretty awesome but that will be in another video as we only showed what the class build was. We have other solar projects that we have been working on and we also wanted to follow up with how we've been testing out the Big Beard Batteries and our solar set up.

I think, more important to an RV DIY Power System is DC to DC charging. In the Military, I was a Fuel & Electrical Systems Specialist. Please let me help with a Powerful Suggestion: 1. Great Solar should be secondary. 2. Primary Power should be DC to DC charging. Many of these new lithium batteries have a BMS, rated for 200 to 300 amp hours continuous. Meaning you can charge them with a lot of power. That's extremely powerful!! 3. You should use your Diesel engine to supply power to your RV! Especially when you're on the go and the Weather is bad. You could do it quite safely and efficiently. 4. MY SUGGESTION; to get a secondary Alternator installed professionally in your Tow Vehicle. a) Perhaps a BALMAR XT-Series 250 Amp/12 Volt Alternator. b) Set up TWO Victron Orion XS 12/12-50A DC-DC Battery Charger. That will give you 100 amp hours of power going into your batteries as you move from area to areas. Or you can just idle your Diesel Engine when you're low on power, and if the Weather is bad. The Victron System will balance out the power between DC to DC charging and the Solar charging. Nate from Explorer's Life shows people how to set up two DC to DC chargers. God Bless you 🙏

What this looks like to me is logical weight management, closer to the axles on the multi plus and the batteries, the rest up front to lessen hitch weight vs Batteries/inverters, etc.... I love this idea, and am going to remember it. Only thing is pantry loss in the bottom, but really not an issue. You all did a great use of both weight and space. Please let us know how the axle weights turn out on the cat once it's all installed. I'd be interested in seeing how much head room you will have there. Gives me ideas on the 32RLS I plan on getting soon. Great Video. Thanks for sharing it.

@VenturesomeCouple
@VenturesomeCouple 3 месяца назад
Thank you for watching our video and supporting our channel. We were not given this system. The labor/install was part of the Solar Class build so we did not have to factor in that cost. The parts were about $15k with easy starts, and MicroAir thermostats.
@Liimpy
@Liimpy 2 месяца назад
@TonyHulk 25k ish... all in.. that's what I was quoted for a similar capacity system (1400w solar/800ah battery) by a reputable installer . Outside of the very cool factor, it's a lot of time/ $ / effort to not want to run a generator.. and my system is backed up by my onboard generator, which was set up to auto start should the system ever run low , it'll provide power and recharge the system

Is it better to buy a trailer that has solar set up on it already or add on solar after a purchase of a trailer ? Which way is cheaper?
@VenturesomeCouple
@VenturesomeCouple 3 месяца назад
Thank you for watching our video, it depends on how you would use the solar system & what the previous owners had already installed, it may not fit your needs. On the other hand, it could be cheaper, but it depends on how you would need the solar set up, such as overnight dry camping or boondocking for weeks, etc… the quality of the solar system on a used RV, or lack there of. How was the knowledge of the previous RV owner (did they install their own solar system & no training or research OR a professional installation). This is a tough question to answer for someone else as we don’t know your camping style, but hope this helps guide you to what you are looking for in a solar system.
@DerekBuster-OTRRVR
@DerekBuster-OTRRVR 3 месяца назад
A couple of observations. Every solar system needs to be designed to meet a "fit for purpose" application. It would be good if you follow up this video with your expectations from the system, what RV electrical appliances you intend to run on the system, and does it do what you expected. Also explain what you intended by putting this system inside the house, most people want their inside storage for food and daily living items, does this mean you displaced those items into your storage compartments? After using it for a few weeks, tell people what you can and can't do with this system, how often are you plugging into shore power/generator to recharge, and how long it will run on its own. This system is around $20,000 installed, how much energy demand do you typically use KWh? Any thoughts on the timeframe to recoup that cost, and how long do you plan to keep the same RV? Does a portion of the investment get lost when you trade it in? What do you expect to use after peak panel input around 4pm? And at night after dusk? Your subscribers will benefit from some honest feedback, in my opinion is this system may be a little small for full-timers, maybe enough for boon dockers/weekenders up north.
@VenturesomeCouple
@VenturesomeCouple 3 месяца назад
Absolutely love the feedback. We are going to be doing a full install tour with all of the details in the next couple weeks. We did add 800watts of additional panels and did a lot of work on the cooling system for the inverters. Thank you for watching our video and supporting our channel.

@VenturesomeCouple
@VenturesomeCouple 3 месяца назад
Thank you for watching our solar build video. I would give the NRVTA school a call and ask. Chris has taken the solar class before, so when we got solar for our new travel trailer we were able to come in, but Chris worked with the class and instructors on our solar build, they did an amazing job. We would recommend that you take the class and help build your solar system because then you know your system inside and out, so if something happens on the road, you aren't stuck waiting on a tech and you can manage it yourself. Chris learned so much when he went to the solar class almost two years ago, it help him to have that knowledge with our solar build. Let the NRVTA know that we sent you (we don't get paid on that) but they are like family to us.
