I actually checked in the book, and here’s what I found: Keefe started disliking Tam at first sight. He said it was because Tam was a shade, but I think it’s actually because he saw himself inside Tam. And Keefe doesn’t exactly like himself... He sees the family issues, the pain, the problems. But Tam doesn’t have a mask. They may not have the exact same personality, but enough so that they might make the same mistakes. So Keefe disliked Tam, and Tam disliked Keefe because of that.
