Universal Robots tackles yet another task in this video, making the process of automating screw driving tasks simple and easy. We took a powerful screwdriver, screw feeder and controller from Kolver and paired it with our UR3 for a solution that's up and running in under an hour.
Using the built-in force mode on our robot, you can compensate for the height of the screw automatically and there is no complex programming involved. Simply teach your robot how to pick up the screw, then where to start threading and your robot program is nearly complete.
Kolver's torque controller allows for up to 8 screw profiles to be stored and recalled by the robot at any time. It's as simple as connecting I/O from the robot to the screw controller.

You have made a very nice video! May I ask you if this is a collaborative screwdriver? It does not look like one.

Might seem obvious but is unscrewing with the Kolver attachment and your robot just as possible - or indeed a little simpler: just discard the removed screw into a bin? Thanks.

I see no vision, so I guess you focused on the screwing issue, on which you did a great job. Do you believe the same project could have succeeded with a simple F/T sensor like from Robotiq ?

Yes, that's right - we did this without machine vision since the part was fixed rigidly. We regularly use Robotiq's Force Copilot on our customer applications, so I think it would help from the standpoint of applying force while screwing, and also to make sure we found the hole properly. However, we definitely need the electric screwdriver itself, we wouldn't want to do this kind of application with a manual tool.

I'm assuming the tip of the screwdriver is magnetically charged? Is there a solution for stainless steel, as magnets will not work?
@AxisNewEnglandAutomation

Yes, in this case the tip is magnetized. There are other solutions that utilize vacuum, or a direct tube feed for the screws that can work for stainless.

@@AxisNewEnglandAutomation I saw i video on the direct tube feed but how would it work if someone uses the vacum for pick the screw?
@rental2765
@rental2765 4 года назад
@@luisxavier7925 Vacuum picking is pretty common, I've used a spring loaded tube so the driver tip is recessed in the tube, vacuum holds the screw in the tube, then when you drive the screw the tube presses against the work and moves back (spring compresses) as the tip drives the screw. We cut vacuum grooves in the driver bit to allow the vacuum to reach the screw, and also rotate the driver a few turns under vacuum to "seat" the screw into the driving bit. If you need an example feel free to message me.

Ali’s this is with a pilot hole. What about straight into wood ?

should be possible however the placement may be inconstant due to the wobble of the screw
