I just turned on my dads after not having been used for about 30 years! She worked for a while then a puff of smoke and a bad smell came out of the left side at the top. Hoping it’s a capacitor! 🙏
@@yongamusic You will love this deck, I have 2 and it’s the best sounding consumer grade deck I’ve ever heard. Including the Akai GX series, Pioneer RT series and those horrible Technics. I never did understand why people covet those Technics, poor design with the butterfly head stack.
@@marcusdolby1 That’s good to hear! I‘m slightly hesitant, though, because a fully revised MKII costs around €1.800,- and a cheaper one might need a lot of TLC. Maybe I should take it slow and wait for the right opportunity to arise.
@@yongamusic That could take awhile, but you never know with these old decks. That's why I shoot videos of the decks I sell. Fully restored ones go for about $3-5 grand. But the ones I sell are about $1,200-$1,500. I've gotten decks that work great, 3 weeks later Kaboom, filter caps blow, you just never know.
Hello , sir.. I have opportunity to buy revox b77 or pr99.. available are both 1/2 track as well as 1/4 track. Which one is better. I know that tape use is less in 1/4 track.. I do have 1/4 track rt 707 and akai 630d.. Does sound quality in 1/2 track is equal to ¹/4 track in 7.5 ips? Thanks
You need to bear in mind that tapes recorded on a 1/2 track machine will not be compatible with your 1/4 track machines. A 1/2 track machine will produce better quality but, unless you're putting your stuff out commercially, it isn't going to be significant enough to worry about. Your speakers and amplifier will have more impact on the output as will the correct setting up of the bias for modern tape. You also need to consider the wear on the tape heads. These machines will be about 30 years old and probably still have the original heads. You can get replacements but they are very expensive. The Mk II has the variable speed control but, if memory serves me correctly, this wasn't on the original model. You should get any deck checked out electrically too as it will probably require re-capping. Old capacitors could be dangerous after all this time. If all of this is OK then it is happy days.
@@ianz9916 thank you very much for info.. I have akai 630d and pioneer rt707.. Revox I am struggling because I would like to buy from some technicians who will change all capacitors and bring to original spec.. How does revox compare to technics 1500 etc which will be able to play 1/4 and well as 1/2 track.. thanks
hi! can i record a source with the varispeed on these unit? like find a tape speed i prefer using the varispeed rather than just the two 3.75 and 7.5ips?
