I made one crucial mistake during this test and left the eq on 70ms on Nakamichi deck for the Type I tape. I will try to repeat this test with proper setup. 1.Making the same volume level for both decks 2.Setting the proper EQ on Nakamichi deck (reVox is doing the auto selection) @kastet 780 I deliberatly left the output volume as it is on both decks to show the raw impression when decks are connected to the amplifier. @MrDeckfan1 I have adjusted the bias setting on Nakamichi 670ZX when I was recording the tape. It has the bias setting under the hood, for each channel per tape Type. I had no intention of showing that Nakamichi has superior sonic quality, it's a matter of taste and personal opinion. However, if you ask me, I would always keep the Nakamichi :).

I hear more details from nak, and sounded slightly clearer to my ears, but prob because it has higher output.

Both great machines

this comparison is not fair, because the Naka 670ZX adjust only the level (Bias,EQ does'nt), and Revox autocalibration setting Bias.Level,EQ . Price level is different ! The real competitor is the Naka CR7 !

B-215: Direct Drive 670ZX: Belt Drive DRAGON, CR-7, ZX-9 are better rivals for B-215 as they are newer and are more direct drive than 4**/5**/6** series.

I am qualified in making some comments here, as I have repaired thousands of top end cassette decks and Open Reel recorders over the past 40 years and continue to do so. Both the Revox and Nakamichi cassette decks are about the best anyone could buy, but the Revox B215 is in, my opinion, the King of cassette decks. I have owned virtually every Nakamichi on the market - The original Nakamichi 1000 & 700 models to the ZX9, ZX7 and the Dragon, but none are quite as good as the B215. Your tests with BASF tape is not what I would recommend, as BASF tape was never up to the quality and performance of the Japanese tapes. I used to calibrate these machines and in the azimuth adjustment (10KHz) I always saw the 'wow & flutter' displayed on my CRO. No matter how good the deck, there was always some degree of fluctuation in the side to side movement (wow & flutter) as seen on the CRO and the decks could be easily evaluated as to their stability. Many years ago, when I played the 10KHz signal on the Revox, I saw only one trace signal on PB and thought there was something wrong with the CRO. To my amazement I saw the 2nd trace superimposed (and not fluctuating) on top of 1st (L & R Channels). This showed virtually zero wow and flutter, which amazed me. Testing cassette decks at different audio levels is also not the right thing as it masks the true performance of the machines. I appreciate these are simple tests, but more science should go into making proper evaluation.

Maybe I am wrong but the slightly lower output level of the Revox is not really a lower level but some processing on the output sound. I see the same on my Akai GX 75 compared to Onkyo 2870, where the highs are a bit muffled but the sound all around has some smoothness that is very enjoyable. Onkyo is raw power, more true to the input but I find myself listening to the Akai, even to the tapes recorded on the other one.

@@jon123423 What do you want me to prove? I think I already did! I have repaired and calibrated thousands of cassette and open reels decks in my lifetime. I believe this qualifies me to make a comment!

@@sdi1111 Just repairing the product will not determine the end result! You need to do a group test by connecting it with high end gear! Amp, speaker and good source! using metal tapes from different brands!

Mods & Tweaks the results you see on a CRO emulate what you would expect to hear through your speakers and yes, I do have a very expensive system, including designing and being the foremost seller in Australia of valve amplifiers... go to:valveamps.com.au. My aural experiences are backed up by my electronic tests, using the proper test equipment. But yes, as long as you like what you hear, who cares about being so fussy!

Накамичи детальнее и разборчивее воспринимается. С поправкой на громкость конечно же.
