What is a Reynolds Number? Reynolds number is a dimensionless quantity that is used to determine the type of flow pattern as laminar or turbulent while flowing through a pipe. Reynolds number is defined by the ratio of inertial forces to that of viscous forces
What if Reynolds number is 4000?
Flow with Reynolds number less than 2000 is considered as laminar flow while flow with Reynolds number greater than 4000 is considered as turbulent flow. Flow having Reynolds number between 2000 to 4000 known as transition flow
What is the formula for Reynolds number simple?
Reynolds Number = Inertial Force / Viscous Force
L = length or diameter of the fluid. Reynolds number formula is used to determine the velocity, diameter and viscosity of the fluid.
What are the units of Reynolds number?
Reynolds number = (density * D * flow speed) / viscosity. The Reynolds number has no units, the units on the right hand side of the equation all cancel out. It increases with the flow speed and decreases with the viscosity. Turbulence appears when the Reynolds number is about 2300.
What is the type of flow?
There are three fluid flow regimes: laminar, turbulent, and a transition region. The conditions that lead to each type of flow behavior are system-specific. Fluid flow simulations for various Reynolds numbers can be used to clearly identify and quantify when flow will transition from laminar to turbulent
Why is it called laminar flow?
Laminar flow occurs when the fluid flows in infinitesimal parallel layers with no disruption between them. In laminar flows, fluid layers slide in parallel, with no eddies, swirls or currents normal to the flow

reynold number should be less than 500 to be laminar flow in open channel, and reynold number should be more than 2000 to be a turbulent flow.
