Absolutely brilliant! I thought I understood inductors 'till I watched this, thanks.

Subbed. This was a concise and cogent explanation for a topic in amateur radio I was recently reading about but didn't understand until this video. Keep the content coming!

Always interesting and informative videos - I am now well past tinkering with electronics but still interested.

Nice Video! I have been looking for such a thing to use in the matching box of an RF plasma generator

@@FesZElectronics For Sure. I have a suggestion for some videos. There is nothing beneficial video series on youtube about high voltages. I mean videos about high voltage generators and possible topologies, safety considerations, etc. Most of the material and videos about HV on youtube are just show-offs of the results rather than suitable learning material. And because high voltages are dangerous, one can not actually go through with trial and error. High voltages are extremely useful in academic labs, so I can imaging the high number of people looking for something relevant on youtube. So I am suggesting to make a video series on high voltages which can absorb so many viewers. High voltages are attractive to both scientists-researchers and hobbyists. HV video series with educational material can be super popular!

I don't know how I missed this video. Is great, I had forgotten that two antiparallel inductors will cancel out their inductance, because it's all about the B field. Thanks Fesz. PS, maybe both your inner and outer coil formers could be shorter, and the relative diameters closer together...

I haven't tried with short coils, mainly because I wanted to have large inductance values, to make it easier to measure. I think the best approach though to make this sort of device is spherical coils. Even though its very difficult to built, coil length will no longer be an issue, and very small air gaps can be achieved.

Sweet! Now I'm looking at everything in my house to see if I can make a round one. Only thing I can find are plastic Easter eggs.
@FesZElectronics
@FesZElectronics 3 года назад
If by round, you mean spherical, I've seen those made with cutout circles - have two pieces of 2D circles inserted one into the other at 90 degrees. At least for the inner inductor this works quite nicely and can be made easily from cardboard or plywood - something that looks like this www.thingiverse.com/thing:3401282

@@FesZElectronics sweet! Yeah, something like that but I want to make the outer coil round as well. It's a good excuse to get a 3D printer.

@@FesZElectronics here is a suggestion if you like you can make a playlist of end to end small electronics projects that can be done easily and are intuitive . this is I am sure you can even search on youtube there is no such playlist available may be this will help your channel growth .....

Great video as always! In what frequency range can it be used, did you maybe measure its self resonant frequency?

I don't see why spherical coils would be so ideal. A sphere is symmetrical in 3 dimensions, but as it rotates about just one, you can do whatever you like with the other two. So what about rectangular coils? (Similar to compressing the cylinders along the shaft axis, making the coils elliptical) This would allow closer coupling (at the maximum, and lower coupling at right angles, giving greater range) Or maybe make the coils as flat spirals?

I am going to try exactly that, in a configuration like this: www.abschirmgehaeuse.de/media/images/va1f_01-large.jpg
