RFK Stadium Demolition & Commanders New Stadium 2023 Update 

I have been a Dallas Cowboys fan since 1980. One of the best aspects of being a sports fan is experiencing the rough and meaningful games with your rivals. For me, Washington and RFK is the epitome. Even though I remember more the losses such as the 1982 NFC Championship or the big loss in 1993 which raised questions about the Cowboys ability to go back-to-back. These games were so intense, the twilight turning into night. Pat Summerall and John Madden on the call. The Cowboys in the blue jerseys with the Redskins in white with the red pants. Those games were the measuring stick for both teams. Hoping the new stadium can be built on this site. It would erase the recent past while paying homage to the Gibbs glory years. Hope you guys can get it done. With respect from a Cowboys fan.

I’d love to see the Redskins go back to the RFK site. That would a great thing.

As an Eagles fan, I would love for the Commanders to be able to build a new stadium on the site of RFK Stadium, its proximity to Union Station would make traveling down to DC for division matchups easier.

FedEx Field is a nightmare to get out of 2 1/2 hrs to 4 hrs to get out of the parking lot.

My family was in D.C. from Philly on July 4th in 1969 for a family reunion. My dad took me to my first baseball game. The Washington Senators played the Detroit Tigers at RFK. I watched Frank Howard hit two home runs up in the lights in left field at the low ridge in the stadium.

Not a Washington fan but I would like to see a new stadium at the RFK site. Especially if the owners will fund it privately fund it. There they could easily connect to local mass transit options making the fan experience much better. Wherever the new stadium ends up being I hope the new ownership group at least considers the fan experience because Snyder never did.

The Washington REDSKINS have alot of history in that stadium. A shame to see it go.

Issue with a new RFK would be the lack of tailgating and parking space. Ownership may want to go elsewhere to get that money.

Recap on the franchise stadium history: George Preston Marshall was a Washington DC laundromat businessman, he bought the remnants of the defunct Newark Tornadoes and made the Boston Braves (not to be confused with the Atlanta Braves baseball team that was also the Boston Braves until moving in 1952). Even though he was from DC, football was a northern sport (dc was a sleepy southern town back then) so the first home of the redskins/Braves was Fenway park (Redsox stadium). With low attendance he decided to move the to the first ever NFL team in the south at Griffith stadium (today it’s Howard university hospital parking lot) which was an all white stadium with the all white redskins. They shared the stadium with the first Washington senators baseball team (later became the Minnesota twins not to be confused with the second Washington senators team that became the Texas rangers). Marshall was forced to desegregate because DC politicians refused a permit for the team to move to a new stadium DC stadium (later renamed RFK). In 1992, Virginia govenor Wilder and jack Kent Cooke (2nd owner of the redskins) made a public announcement they will be moving the team to Alexandria at an old rail road yard (the defunct W&OD railroad). Alexandria residence prevented it from ever happening, so Cooke decided to move the team to Maryland, jack Kent Cooke stadium (later renamed fed ex stadium).

He just called my home state "The Middle of Nowhere." Northern VA and Central VA are heavily urbanized and close to DC. Plus you don't need to go on I-70.

Makes more sense to build the new Redskins stadium at the RFK site. Easier to get to and could be a great site for additional development/modernization.

If he sold the team before changing the name, it would still be called the Redskins. The new owners are not going to make the team better, just more woke like the rest of the National Felon League

Based on how Los Angeles dealt with Staples Center, SoFi stadium, and LA Clippers stadium funding, i.e. minimal public funding plus what looks like how Chicago Bears are looking at their stadium funding, doubt Washington Commanders will see much public funding.

Our Washington Team will have to go bact to the Basics.Just as our Coach Lombardi reintroduced one of his Former Teams (after losing a Championship Game; and did basically the same, when he came to Coach us in 1969. Born in DC, been a fan since '81. Building a new stadium in D.C., IMO, just isn't viable. So much gentrification has already happened where properties have been flipped and done up. If FED EX is out of the question, VA is really the only place where the Commanders will have the space to usher in an amazing complex. Salute to RFK, piece by piece demo was the right choice. #HTTC

The last few years have been very disappointing to say the least. Snyder did a total demolition job on a once great team. It would be great to see a new stadium built on the RFK site, however it is more important that the image of the team be rebuilt as well.

I've heard "rumblings" that the new ownership will try and change the name of the team back to the "Redskins" despite these stupid "woke" crowds protests. The Washington Commanders’ president, Jason Wright, would like to have a new stadium. And some of Corporate America companies will help the team make that happen unless the team’s nickname be changed from “Redskins” to “Commanders”. They don’t want the Native Americans’ History be connected or stamped to the team. In order for the Washington Commanders to receive a new stadium, the nickname “Redskins” would have to go. So, those Corporate America companies devise a plan to change the name. They probably said together, “Let’s say that the Native Americans want the name ‘Redskins’ changed. That it is an offense to our heritage and history.” Therefore, they cooked up that story and proclaimed it to the media. And that’s how I believe they change the name. The bottom-line is that it wasn’t an offense to the Native Americans, but an offense to those Corporate America companies. Let us fans stand with the Native Americans and fight for the name to be change back to “REDSKINS”!

The site isn't large enough for a new bigger stadium. That's the issue.

Granted, I’m not really into the NFL, and I don’t live in D.C., but I do really like the city a whole lot, and will be back this fall. And as such, I think that it should be practically mandatory that our nation’s capital has one of each of the main pro sports teams. RFK’s location if you look at it on the map, has always felt like a natural extension of the national mall to me. And that just seems so appropriate given that the capitol building, the White House, museums, memorials, treasuries, and so many other aspects of our country are there, that something like a sports venue or things to do with the arts are there too. From all of those things, to great public transportation, to sports, our capital should be an example of all things that are wonderful about the United States. I really hope that RFK is demolished, and brand new, state of the art stadium is built on its site for the Commanders. Personally I think that would be very cool.

No move to a Beautiful state

Only way the new stadium gets built in the virginia part of the D.M.V. (which is just as heavily packed/crowded & has traffic just as bad as the maryland & D.C. areas with plenty of tax dollars), is if you build a train station with connecting routes across the D.M.V. & multiple parking & bus/transit routes. No way does a new stadium get built & it STILL takes 1-4 hours to get to & from the stadium with long a$$ walks to & from your car like at raggedy fedex field ( like i've been repeatedly told by fans). #IJS

Worked with a survey tech at Kamber Engineering in Gaithersburg Md. He had gotten two tickets for the Skins pre season game at RFK, in "80-81" before the space scuttle disaster? Maybe after? Its been a minute since! But the the RFK Stadium reminded me of Wrigley's or the old Comiskey Park, but here's the thing at RFK when the fans jumped up to cheered or stumped their feet! I swear RFK felt like it going to collapse! Unlike Wrigley's or Comiskey Park! The person I was with told me to relax, drink my beer and watch the game! I think later on they moved out to Larual Md. Never went to a game there to see if that stadium shook when the fans farted! CMTFU

The local DC officials see this as a way to line their pockets. It’s a selfish and ignorant decision to not support rebuilding not to mention it would be a revenue boom. Oh yeah the much needed jobs.

Where tf is all of the money in dc going? Speed camera tickets are over $200 and people are constantly getting ticketed and towed for parallel parking. Between that and taxpayer dollars, they sure as hell arent using the miney towards fixing the roads.

FedEx or Jack Kent Cooke Stadium got built in MD instead of D.C. because the local D.C. government had a falling out with Cooke so he went to MD to build Raljohn, MD. Any new owner will face the same political obstacles when dealing with the D.C. government. When all you want to build is a great Redskins Stadium for the fans to root for you can't be dealing with anything involving the D.C. government ! They will put so many woke policies in the contract that the stadium is the last thing to be thought if it ever gets built !
