Nice video. Just so everyone knows: it's possible to add as many consoles as you would like to each section group. I add all the emulators I use into one. Then there's no switching between section groups (this should be optional)...which is annoying and not less simple than something like a retroarch frontend. Just edit the section groups to include all the emulators you want on one section.

It will be interesting to try a few things 1) Various boxart sizes - I have converted boxarts in to lots of sizes - Will Simplemenu resize the images over 320x240 to fit the screen ? 2) Will this support multiple image types not just PNG (AJPG is what I would like to test at fullscreen) 3) Frontend Boot Animation with sound like one of the previous frontends (Like Esoteric)

It's frustrating trying to get this to work on the RG300. I have it installed fine on my RG350. Initially setup on the RG300 goes well but as soon as you setup an ini file then relaunch I get thrown back to the stock menu. last_state.sav has been deleted as per the installation instructions. I'm completely out of ideas.
Hi MashTec, I’ve put simple menu on RG350M but when scrolling through console emulators, it throws me back to RG350M main menu usually when trying to access Super Nintendo ROMs. Any ideas? Thanks
Hey dude, never faced that problem on my device. But maybe it can‘t handle some ROM names. Sometimes these frontends have problem with special characters in ROM names like: é, ê, ^ for example. Check for rom names with non-asccii characters in their name and rename them. I hope this helps. Enjoy!

Only one question: when i get in full screen mode with Simple Menu, i have a black-coloured background behind the cover of the game: there's a way to change it putting another image in its place? Hey dude, greetings back from Germany :) What device did you apply it to? If the default images don‘t fir to the screen resolution of your device, you could exchange the image in the simple menu folder by a version that fits your resolution. May also be in the theme, i need to look it up.
@@MashTec Hi! I'm using an RG350 with Rogue firmware. The Simple Menu theme i have is the GBZ35Remix. I found the theme.ini file on the theme folder and i noticed that there is the possibility to change the background image. I tried to put some .png images i like but i didn't work... always the black screen in the background ... :-/
I was playing Sonic, then I went to save the level in save states! but when I went to save states again to play the recorded phase, to my surprise it went back to the first phase !! I went to test it in another game and it's the same!
@mashtech - so where can we get additional themes for SimpleMenu? the OPK I got a few days ago only had default and gbz... I got NES and SNES working so far... and FYI, it doesn't like .7z zipped files, on .zip for SNES... thanks in advance!
Okay I've been looking this up for way too long now.. how to you edit .ini files to hide systems and/or completely remove sections like home computer? The zx spectrum isn't he only system that shows with zero games.. and I don't need it listed really, or arcade for that matter.
hey Mashtec, Let me know when you drop this on the PG2 - I have a MiYoo Max Versionof PG2 but cannot get this running on Rogue CFW 1.0.5 - When attempting to launch the "Simple Menu" icon it doesn't boot. There is a just a quick flash then nothing happens. I tried the following to fix it: 1) Redownload the "SimpleMenu-PG2.opk" file in case it was corrupt. 2) Deleted al partions on the Micro SD then formated the Micro SD and done a clean install of the CFW1.0.5 adding only "SimpleMenu-PG2.opk" and the default apps included with Rogue CFW1.0.5 3) Followed all steps above using previous version of Rogue CFW v1.0.4 4Tried another Micro SD Card Any Idea's? Can‘t get it to work on PocketGo 2 V2. It fails to load and returns straight to main menu. Any idea why? Tried it with stock firmware and latest rogue firmware as well.
I'm sorry to hear that dude :( Actually the Pocket Go 2 v2 should be able to handle all RG350 opk's too. So even the RG350 version for SimpleMenu should run on your Pocket Go 2 v2. But there is also a special version for the PocketGo 2. Try that one and see if it works for you. It's on the same link as where you can find the RG350 version. GL my friend.
Same problem here.I have the PlayGo (shoudl be exactly the same as PG2) Says it is loading Simplemenu, then goes back to deafult menu. Did you manage to find a sollution?
Hi, When have installed the app SimpleMenu on my 350P, I can see it on my app menu, but when I launch it, it's closing one second after...Do you know what could be the problem ?
How do I put the "Simple Menu" onto my PG2 as I've tried taking the SD card out and plugging it into laptop but can't access a media file and also plugged the cable that came with PG2 into laptop but it's not picking it up on laptop either. Any chance you have a video or suggestion on what I can do. Also what is the "WinSCP", is this something I need ?
I just tossed it in the SD card and then used the "GinguxCmdr" app (in the 350 itself) to move it to the correct folder. This got the app to work, but I havent managed how to get SimpleMenu to read my SD card
Late response but i believe you need to pop off the sd card that has the firmware, and use a sdreader to connect the card to the pc (i believe the pg2 comes whis a usb SD reader when you buy it)
Finally got it to work on CFW 1.03. Configured the ini files in Winscp, but simplemenu only shows 'APPS and GAMES' categories, no consoles, handheld, arcade, etc... Any idea's?
Yes, it‘s also possible. I planned to cover it in another video, but i it‘s as Gordon Shumway mentioned: 1. Hit 'Start' within SimpleMenu to enter the Settings Menu 2. Set SimpleMenu as default launcher (last entry in the settings list) 3. Done :) You can always revert it the same way ;) enjoy!
I am having two issues. First - Every ROM has the name of the system before the name of the ROM "Nintendo Entertainment System - Dig Dug". Is there a way to remove that? Second - When I launch any ROM it goes into the Emulator where I have to then select the right folder and then the rom. Any help? I have gone through the setup process twice.
Hello my friend, for point 1: I can recommend you a tool called "Bulk Rename Utility". It does the job for you ;) for point 2: What emulator did you try? Normaly, it should start the game directly. Not all emulators support this option, so have to choose your game again from a list. But things are getting better here, i will soon cover it in a video.
Nowhere on that download page does it mention RG350 any longer. (Its on 10.3.1 as of Sep 14 2021 - nearly a year ago.) Do you have an updated method or is there some way to download the older files you are mentioning? Thanks.
I just checked the page and i‘m sorry to say that the developer has removed all the .opk file from his repository :( i don‘t know why, but seems like these assets are gone :(
Hey MashTec, I have a question about adding the subfolders to the ROMS directory. Example below for SNES ROMS - 1 Licensed which also contains sub folders "1 - E" "F - N" "O - S" "T - Z" However the SNES folder also has other sub Folders. "2 Japanese" "3 Translated" "4 Lightgun" "5 Rom Mods" I am not sure if / how this would be added to the "Consoles.ini" Do they need a "/" or just a "," - romDirs = /media/sdcard/ROMS/SNES,1 Licensed,1 - E,F - N,O - S,T - Z,2 Japanese,3 Translated,4 Lightgun Should I Move the folders in "1 Licenced" to the "SNES" root rename them "Licensed 1 - E" "Licensed F - N" "Licensed O - S" "Licensed T - Z" ? What do you think is the best way to approach this problem ? Finally, can the folders in SNES have a dedicated artwork File ? Sorry about all the questions... I am sure lots of people like a stuctured ROMS folder to make it easier to navigate :) Many Thanks Kev

@@MashTec i doing some trial and error with media folders etc... I have successfully added new resource to Arcade, Console and Handhelds... These include 1vs1 fighting Ganes, FBA Specific romsets 86, 44 and 35... Hacks & Mods for most Consoles & Handhelds... Same for Translations.... I really like Simplemenu its HIGHLY customisable and easy to do... Not sure how to add sections yet but will look into this next
My PC crashes my whenever i plug my 350m in. is it possible to plug the flash card in my PC and insert simple menu from there? theres no "assets" folder...
I've managed to get simplemenu working via the in-unit file transfer, but idk how to get Simplemenu read from my external card, as it is saying I have no games.

Hi my freind. Yes, the Recallbox setting fits the best for EmulatioStation. Since the RG350 has a screen resolution of 320x240 i recommend you to choose 160x120 (max.). It's enough... for the beste load times of the images and image size.
Sorry to bother you, but I tried almost everything. I followed your video to get the boxarts, I have them with 150x150 ratio, PNG, folder called "media", and I am sure the names are the same between the roms and the covers. But they do not display on the menu. I am using simplemenu but it simply does not show the covers. Any idea?
Hmm, sounds like you did everything correct my friend. So you created the "media" folder as subfolder in the rom directory of a system and add the boxart there? Did it also create a ganelist.xml file for you in the rom folder?
# MashTec I found the problem. Was other thing, even easier. The file config.ini has a section called mediafolder. By default is .previews, to make it works had to be set as media.

@@RG2SoldiersGaming Alight, then you need to ensure two things: 1. You need the USB drivers for Windows. 2. In the menu of your device, go to Settings Tab and select Network. There you need to set it to "login without password". That should work ;)

can you move the .simplemenu folder to the external sd card if you have all the apps/games/roms on the exteral also (to make it easy to just pop it into your computer if not Linux? :)
Any chance of a quick Pocket Go V2 tutorial as I've looked at this video and still can't get it to work. I've also asked your friend Wagner Tech Talk and he's given me tips but still can't get it to work. The cable that came with my PG is not showing up on my laptop when I plug it in so not sure it can be used for file transfer and also tried "DinguxCmdr" file transfer through the PG but I've no idea where to copy/move the "Simple Menu" file into which file ?? Any tips ??
Hi Mark, you need to install the USB driver if you like to copy files directly between your PC and your device. If you don't have the drivers, there is still a way to transfer files: Take a micro-sdcard and copy your data to it from your PC side. Then, put that card into the PG2 external sd-card slot. If you need to transfer data to the internal sd-card, just open DinguxCmdr and transfer it from your external sdcard over to your internal sdcard. I hope that helps.

on the rg350m, when set simple menu as default launcher, the console pics are wrong in size (blown up).. but when I start it manualy out of the rogue menu, the pics are shown corectly... anyone an idea how to fix this?
Moin, ich hoffe du kannst mir weiter helfen...ich habe alles nach anleitungen gemacht, nach deiner und auch nach einer in textform. mein problem ist: jedesmal wenn ich im handheld und console menü durch die einzelnen systeme skippe, kriege ich einen black screen. zu 95% passiert es, sobald ich auf master system und auf neo geo pocket color springe. hast du eine idee? bei reddit habe ich auch schon gefragt aber da konnte mir bisher niemand helfen, die tipps von reddit/google aus älteren threads haben auch nicht geholfen :\ ps: die console.ini und handheld.ini habe ich eben zum 20.mal nach fehlern durchsucht und kann keine finden. gruß

I‘m sorry you have to redo them. But .png even is the better format 😊 I think i‘m gonna wait with HDMI until the support for it becomes part of the Rogue fw. I believe this will come soon. What is the problem with ScummVM? Remeber, ScrummVM doesn‘t support direct call of a rom. It will always have to start the emulator and then makes you choose your game from the menu within.

Hello Phil, yes that‘s a known problem with stock :( it only works with 1.5.1 or Rogue FW (i should have mentioned that in the video). I contacted the developer about it, but it seems like he won‘t fix it for stock :(

Hi MashTec I installed 1.5.1. And installed Simple Menu, however some roms are not showing up also the re GBA is showing as a missing opk I know its installed because it works on the stock launcher. Any ideas?
Hey dude, check the name and path of the .opk in the handhelds.ini file (this is where the handheld consoles are configured) and check the path to your roms and rom file extensions.

@@MashTec I am confused. When I drop the simplemenu opk onto the apps folder. Is that on the microsd card or on the internal? I use a network connection to copy to my rg350. The problem I have is. That when I open simplemenu. It shows games. But It can't find the emulators to play them.
Hey dude, yes that‘s expected. You need to have the emulators on your system already. Or download and copy them over. SimpleMenu is just a front-end. It doesn‘t come along with emulators itself. You can download emulators from the web if you still miss some.

Nate Boddington Hey dude :) yes, SimpleMenu has that option. So you can simply set it to ON and your device will boot right into SimpleMenu as you start it. For sure, can also be turned off at the same place
It depends. As a first installation of Rogue, you still have to flash the sd card. All later upgrades can be done via .opk update without opening up the device.

Mc Yes my friend. I can also recommend you to try out EmulationStation. Check my videos, i got one that shows you how to set it up. It aged a bit and i planned to make a new one, but in principle it still works the same. Enjoy!
I am trying to figure out how to do all of this too without opening up to gain access to the internal card. The even harder part is that I am trying to do this on a Mac. I have downloaded BalenaEtcher which should let me back up the Stock FW and flash the Custom FW but up until this point, I have only ever connected using the stock Network app on the RG350, and then connecting to that address using Filezilla, which has been successful for adding and modifying the files but because it is not actually mounting the internal drive on the Mac, I am not able to clone and flash it. Any thoughts?
@@MashTec Thanks. Have been able now to open in winscp through ftp. Installed the required driver. But I still cannot start simplemenu from pg2. There is afolder in the sbin folder, from a former, failed attempt to install. Could that be the problem?
Hi for some reason whenever I open Simple Menu, it just crashes into the stock menu. It never opens into the "consoles" section (which is shown in this video in this case the GBA). In other words, it never opens. It just sends me straight back to the main menu. My games are still working on my external SD thankfully. Otherwise, it never worked for me.
Thanks. I've installed 1.5.1 and set default launch and shutdown in SM once booted back up it's at stock again. I have checked use/local/sbin and the is a frontend_start file generated. I don't know where to go from here

Me too. Have a PlayGo, which I thought was exactly the same as PocketGo2 and MiYoo Max, but somehow simplemenu will not work. such as shame. If you have a sollution, please share!

Hi Kev, thanks for all the investigation here. I don‘t own a PG2 myself, so unfortunately i can‘t really test it. I guess the tutorial doesn‘t differ for all the systems i listet in the title as long as SimpleMenu is running on your device. Seems like the same problem we have with SM running on the RG350 stock fw. I guess this is something the developer can solve only. I investigated into this problem too on my RG350. You can try to run it with 'strace' active and see if you find a hint with it: 1. Login with a terminal to your PG2 2. change to the directory where your .opk file is located 3. strace opkrun ./SimpleMenu-PG2.opk
@@timperry8961 just the SD Card buddy... Its not stable so make a back up of the working version once its running. Then if it back screens replace n ovewrite
