I've been a cable tech for over 6 years. So, your rg6 cable is dual shield and you never remove that foil. Quad shield, is exactly that, foil, braid, foil, braid. In quad shield, you would remove the outer layer of foil but never the foil on the dielectric, which is the plastic. Only thing I see worth correcting. 👍 (I'm here because I own a 986 lol)

+Paul ahhhh that makes sense! First, I was like “they said there would be more braid under here. Second, that foil did NOT want to be removed!

Since you were a tech, I’m sure you know, what is the difference between short F-connector vs long, when would you install short vs long one. The short is 18mm vs 21mm for long one. There must be a reason because there are F-Compression tools for each. I’m trying to buy a tool and need to choose connector type.

I'd get an adjustable compression tool. Reason being slight length variations as you mentioned just two there are many slightly longer, shorter

Very good video. Thanks! Not related to the main topic of this video, but I don't like how the folks ran the wiring. With the way they wired it, the two subwoofer outputs share the same subwoofer input via the T connector. Ideally, you want independent wires run to the rack. Good processors these days have independent subwoofer outputs (many have 2 subwoofer outputs, and higher end subwoofers have 4 subwoofer outputs). By having independent subwoofer wiring for each subwoofer, the delays, gain, and timing of each subwoofer can be tuned (from the processor or a miniDSP 2x4 HD) independently. But that's not the main point of this video. The termination lesson in the video was very good.

seriously great video! Perfect amount of detailed info and we didn’t have to see some egoistical ridiculous time wasting video intro. Then in order to see the rest of your video we didn’t have to hear your life story and how your cat fluffy was doing. I wish more people followed your format. Thank you for the video!

I've never removed the metal insulation nor have I seen that done. Who instructed you to remove the insulation?
@HelpMeDIY
@HelpMeDIY 2 года назад
I learned that this type of cable was not what I thought it was and that particular metal I was trying to scrape off didn’t need to be. I believe someone else pointed it out in another comment

you dont let the rg6 come out on the other side - you use the black slide guard which is there to give you the exact length to cut

I bought a kit and I want to shorten my cable wire. When I attempt to put the connector on, it doesn't slide up enough where the white part is against the inside of the connector. Does this mean I need a different size connector?
