AR Rahman's first movie Roja deserves Oscar, that's how genius AR Rahman is. I have been listening to AR Rahman from 25 years and I still wonder how he was able to do all the hits like Roja, Rangeela, Taal, Lagaan, Slumdog millionaire, Yuvvraj, Bhrateeyudu. Every song that AR Rahman's composes is beautiful. RGV knows AR Rahman is a genius, he just needs some publicity nothing else.

@@test-wc9hr AR is shining coz he is a mix of talent and business. We know they both shined well independently. Harris gave twice or trice more hit songs than AR in the 2000s after parting from him. No one's discrediting AR's talent here but he does hire ghost writers even now. This applies for background scores as well where these days he doesn't even do 30% work in some films.

As a part time music producer rgv chappina prathi point one side of view nundi correct but what he doesn't know is even in digital music production it takes lot of time for making a music track as it follow equalizing, mixing, mastering etc , etc,. In reality digital music production is more harder than live music recordings. So its the payment for time and skill than the technology.

I would advise we do not take RGV too seriously - he's notorious as a trickster and mischief-maker. Sivamani is one of India's top drummers, if not the number one drummer. His musical resume is one of the most impressive anywhere. Thaman works with Sivamani a lot, and he's not stupid to do that. The fact that an ordinary listener cannot tell Sivamani's work from that of any other drummer just means that most people are not musically literate and that Sivamani influenced all modern-day drummers. Most people cannot tell the difference between directors either. RGV's overriding concern is can he cut corners and reduce budgets to almost nothing, which means never working with any technician at the top of their profession if he can achieve good enough results with newcomers or amateurs - good enough as he sees it. This has actually produced some undeniably excellent camerawork or music - I would cite Vangaveeti as an example, but also some very poor films. Speaking from the outside, all we can say is RGV should keep doing whatever he's doing but his approach cannot be universally adopted by the top filmmakers and the biggest films being made. Small films have no choice but to work with budding technicians anyway so do not need this advice.

The greatness of Jaiho is not in its tune but in its arrangements and composition of the overall song. You all would have given the same reaction as Subhash Ghai if you have heard the sukhwinder singh version.

Arey babu many lyricists while writing songs they give basic tune or hum for few songs but that doesn't mean the lyricist is the composer. Ar rahman is a maverick he doesn't need anyone's credit. Rgv looks at only one side of the spectrum and gives his opinions and anchor doesn't have a sense to dig deeper into his answers with questions. When you get overwhelmed by any person you don't try to analyze their answers because you stuck in that awe and whatever he says you will take it as it is.. Asking a question may give you an answer but questioning an answer will give you an insight.

When I heard the songs from Bombay, Rangeela, Roja, I had told him that his songs are at par with the international ones. I told him that he should win a Grammy. But he didn't care for that. I had told him again during Dil Se and again when I sang the original version Thaiya Thaiya [in Tamil]. Rahman was upset and asked me what is international. Now see, where he is today. I called him after the Golden Globes and told him that 'this is international.' He started laughing. I am happy that Rahman at last got the long deserved award. On Jai Ho When I first heard the lyrics of Jai Ho I thought they were marvellous. I can only sing well if the song has good poetry. And Gulzarsaab had done a good job. During the recording, I almost started dancing when I was singing. I sang the song three times as I was enjoying and wanted to improvise more and sing it many times. But Rahman asked me to stop. Rahman said the song is naughty and now you are also getting naughty! He told me that now you have started playing with the song! When I first heard Jai Ho after the recording, I did not like it much and I told him about it. He told me that the songs should sound like as though a live band was playing the song. I understood that Rahman was experimenting with this song. And we can't deny the fact that this song is the most happening number now, though I feel that he has done better songs before Jai Ho!
