(The 180º in 90 Daily Vlog) Tuesday, Day 62 of 90 - If you’ve ever had a painful case of Rhabdomyolysis you know that you never want to experience that again. For those who haven’t, or are not sure what Rhabdo is, this episode is on Rhabdomyolysis symptoms, treatment, and preventative steps. - (Check out my results below to see how well I’m doing on my journey to lose 50 lbs in 90 days! ↓)
________________________________
MY STORY -
I am a 48 year old Celebrity Personal Trainer in Hollywood, who is also a husband and father of two, attempting to lose up to 50 lbs in 90 days. I gained this weight on purpose in an effort to show men my age how to do it both quickly and safely. Every single day I will show you what foods I eat, what supplements I take, and what workouts I am doing, to achieve this dramatic weight loss goal. That's right...you'll get all my tips, tricks, and secrets for absolutely FREE. (Pssssssttt…it’s down below in every episode!)
________________________________
CURRENT MEASUREMENTS -
(Weigh In & Ultrasound Body Fat Test Done Every Friday)
*On 10/4/2019 (Day 1) • Extreme weight loss fo... - I weighed in at 254 lbs, and my bodyfat was at 24.1%, which means that 60.11 lbs of my body weight was fat.
As of Saturday 11/23/2019 (Day 52), I weighed in at 234.5 lbs, my body fat is currently 16.8%, which means that 39.5 lbs of my body weight is fat. Since Day 1, I dropped my bodyfat by 7% and burned off about 20 lbs of total body weight and put back on a few healthy pounds of muscle too. Although it’s not bad progress I really need to step it up if I want to drop the entire 50 lbs by day 90.
*I wasn’t able to do an official weigh in on Friday 11/29 “Black Friday” due to being out in Arizona. We’re heading back to Los Angeles tomorrow and I’ll get back on track this week. My next weigh in will be this coming Friday 12/6.

WHAT I ATE TODAY -
6 am - 1 ½ tablespoons of apple cider vinegar w/ water, 24 ounces of coffee
1 pm - Vegan protein shake w/ 1 ½ tablespoons of almond butter
6 pm - 2 oz of salami, 2 oz of pepperoni, 2 slices of American cheese, 1 bag of quest protein chips
8 pm - (Donna’s birthday dinner) - 3 beef ribs, coleslaw, 1 cup of bbq beans, small garden salad w/ 1000 island dressing
9 pm - shared a slice of chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream
EATING NOTES -
I definitely did NOT eat well today. I took the evening off to celebrate my wife’s birthday alone with her. We went to dinner at Wood Ranch Grill and enjoyed a slice of birthday cake afterwards. Not going to stress about it because this was a conscious decision to spend time with and on my wife.

I am a 19 y/o girl, and I was hospitalised for rhabdo this year, after going for a spin class. I wasn’t consistently working out so I didn’t know that I was pushing it too far. After 8 hours, the pain was SO severe, I couldn’t move my legs at all. I entered the hospital with a CK level of 300,000 which was the worst case that my doctors have seen. (When they first saw the results, they thought I came in because of a crush injury) It took me a full week in the hospital for my CK levels to start declining. After being discharged from the hospital, It took me more than a month to be able to walk properly without the help of crutches. Even then, my legs were incredibly weak. So just a word of advice, for those who think they may be suffering from rhabdo, even if you aren’t too sure, visit the hospital and just get some tests done. Better safe than sorry. Also, seek physical therapy if you can’t bend at your joints. It may hurt really badly but it is important that you regain movement in your joints, if not you may develop compartment syndrome which is very serious.

@Victoria Wong, my god girl that is one of the most painful bouts of Rhabdo that I have ever heard of. A 300k CK level is in line for kidney failure. That is most definitely a crush injury type of reading. YOU are so fortunate that you were able to recover from that. This was all done by a 1 hour spin class? Were you living a pretty sedentary life before taking the class or were you always pretty active? I hope the Spin instructor was notified for future precautions. I'm glad to hear that you're doing well now, and thank you for both your comment and advice, to the future viewers of this video. 👍

I feel you, I am a 27 y/o male. I am an Army veteran and have always been active. I got Rhabdo this past January. My CK level was also high, peaked at 360,000. I was at the VA for also a week and was being pushed many many fluids. Before I went in I just assumed I had regular muscle soreness. I thought my workout wasn’t that strenuous. It was my first time lifting weights in a couple years, but just two months before I had finished months or training and ran a half marathon. I had a lot of the same muscle soreness then as well but in the legs. I broke my leg in 2021, so the soreness wasn’t anything comparative to the pain I had then so I paid no mind. Not until I got the locked out arms and dark urine. Which happened to me in Afghanistan while training and dehydrated. Right now my drs. are undecided on wether it’s happened to me because of a possible genetic enzyme deficiency or my stimulant use in treatment of ADHD. Hope you recovered well and are doing great!

I’m 24 yo male, in the military. I got rhado about a week ago from doing a 6 mile run for time, going to work busting my ass then doing a leg workout in a full sweat suit. I started cramping really bad while I was trying to go to sleep, my whole body went stiff and I was in so much pain. Luckily I went to the hospital right away and currently going through the recovery. Sucks being out of things cause I was supposed to jump out of a C-130. Man, I was extremely tired the last week after a squat session where I pushed really hard. I had this EXTREME back pain, and I seriously thought I was going to be paralyzed. Went to the emergency room, they gave me IV fluids for 2 hours and I was released without being tested for rhabdo. I’m pretty sure I’ve had it, BUT, thank’s to my obsession with hydration (I drink 3.5L of water everyday for years) it wasn’t an extreme case. Guys always make sure you’re hydrating a lot. I literally walk in the house with a bottle of water everyday and I drink shit load of water. Thank god this good habit saved me, otherwise it could’ve been worse.

In the hospital now. CK levels were over 32k. I’m at 17k trending down. Something to add is some prescriptions cause this as well. 1st experience was in September. Took 4 months off and only did a 30 minute light arm workout. Less than 24 hours my arms blew up. Doctors determined that it was my ADHD medication and not enough time from my last hospital visit.

@RF, that's horrible to hear. I'm glad that you recovered hopefully without any permanent damage. Having a seizure during a hike is extremely rare for it to be only rhabdo induced. Was there any other complications like severe dehydration or a heart arrhythmia?

Scott Yonehiro I brought three liters of water with me but they said my sodium levels where at 115( I think that’s what they said )which is extremely low and they said if it dropped by one more I’d have died . Thankfully I had my phone and I got my wife to call me an Uber and I got home ( getting in and out of the car was another story :) ) then I tried hydrating myself but kept getting sick and having the worst cramps all over my body for 12 hours ( I just thought it would go away by itself ) . Thank you for the video Scott... Please note on min 5:57 you suggested about taking Advil for pain relief; however, is "not" recommended at all due to the damages that can cause to the kidney and liver. No OTC pain relievers such as Advil (ibuprofen) or Tylenol (acetaminophen) should be taken if you've been diagnosed with Rhabdo or are almost certain you have it.
@ScottYonehiro1
@ScottYonehiro1 4 года назад
Thanks Fernando. The advice came from a doctor client of mine whom says that you can take acetaminophen (Tylenol) or a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) like aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), or naproxen (Aleve)to help ease the discomfort. Like anything else just stick to the guidelines when taking it and don't over do it.

Not fun. I’m on day 5 in the hospital. I hydrate very well and was happy to hear from both doctors that my hydration was not the issue. If you’ve injured (worked out) enough muscle tissue no amount of hydration will stop Rhabdo. And sometimes too much water can trigger it. Lesson. Don’t push every muscle group beyond it’s limit with zero recover over a few days. Or excessive repetition of a singular large muscle. Good news for my case was that intense hydration did at least prevent it from being much worse. I’m on iv bag 30 haha. Love your video and glad you’re sharing with people. You rock man

Thanks for this vid. I got the symptoms after lifting again off of a 5 month hiatus. It hits me about 20 min after I workout and I get to the point where I can’t walk or move my arms anymore. My doctor ran tests on me and my creatine kinase levels were at 1135 and said it could be the statin medication I take for high cholesterol and I have been going too hard at the gym. Which I really was because I had that mentality like I still had the strength. So it’s been a week and was told no more lifting all I could do is cardio. This past week I stuck to 1 hour of liss cardio every morning and my ck numbers dropped too 837 which atleast is showing improvement. I know for sure I had this of rhabdo without a doubt. Thanks for the informative video this really helped me a lot. The pain I felt was weird, it wasn’t a real pain but more so a complete shutdown of the strength in the muscles. I had an episode of Rhabdo last month. It was my first time working out in a while and I had done damn near 100 push ups, jumping jacks, and running in one sitting on a Friday night, trying to keep up with a friend in better shape. Didnt seem too crazy,, but I was already at the point of muscle failure after about 50-60 reps, and I kept trying to get the full 100 push-ups in. After the workout I fell asleep almost as soon as I got home. I was sore the next day with limited arm movement, I thought it was regular soreness. By Monday evening I had some swelling in my triceps and soda colored urine, and I knew what was going on. Called a doctor and he told me to drink water and if I didn't feel better to go to the ER. I drank water to the point i was going to the bathroom every hour for the rest of the night. Regular creatine kinase(ck) levels for a black male is 50 - 850. When I got to the hospital the next morning, my blood test showed 112,000. Well at risk for kidney failure. My liver also showed high activity, basically trying to help my kidneys clear the proteins out. I was still healthy otherwise, so my condition improved after 4 days of drinking water and being on the IV.
@pjds1989

Also, if you take anything for the pain, only take Tylenol. I learned that taking asprin, ibuprofen, or anything else only made the inflammation worse and taxes your kidneys and liver more.

My biceps look really strange, like the lower part has collapsed. The first signs of a problem were when the right forearm got really swollen, and both forearms went black and blue. I can't think of any big changes to my weight training except that I recently started using an Armblaster. I don't recall any unusual pain. Hydration can be a problem. I forget to drink on off days and even during workout sometimes my water bottle is still nearly full when I leave the gym. I also recently stopped using electrolytes in my water. @ScottYonehiro1

What happened after you recovered from the Rhabdo, Stacey? If there wasn't any permanent damage, which there shouldn't be, you should be able to just get back into your normal leg routine. I would just strongly recommend to take it in controlled steps and gradually increase the weight and difficulty over time. Just don't go too "balls to the wall" hitting your workout hard until you feel better...much better.

Kimberley, I am so sorry that you are going through a rhabdo cycle right now. I've found that it's unfortunately common right now, for a lot of people getting back into their workouts, since being so inactive for so long from the lockdown. If you stay hydrated, and get plenty of REST, I am hoping you can get over the hump of it within 3 to 5 days. That being said, I do NOT know how bad off you are, and I stress that you should at least do a virtual doctor's visit to ascertain that, and also get piece of mind. Also, try to at least get in one protein shake a day to help with the healing. A good vegan based shake with plenty of green vitamins in it would be preferred. Wishing you a speedy recovery! ❤️

It seems summer is a more common time as well due to heat exhaustion with over exertion. Maybe even more than winter time with some athletes.
@ScottYonehiro1
@ScottYonehiro1 3 месяца назад
That may be so, but I think the hotter weather keeps most gym-goers hydrated due to thirst from the heat. I also think that the heat prevents people from over-exerting their muscles because it's just too damn hot to push yourself too far. The cooler climate of winter tends to give athletes more reason to push harder and, unfortunately, drink less water. I have to constantly remind clients to hydrate during the winter time but never in the hotter summer months.

So a couple of day ago last Thursday I went to the gym for the first time after a long time. I did what I normally did before but only worked out for 40 minutes and left(weight lifting), for 3 days my chest was sore, but after those three days, my chest pain reduced by a lot and I never recall having brown or red urine. I made sure to drink a lot of water after in those three days after watching your video on it. I feel normal on the 5th day just that I’m worried that my body might’ve been damaged. Question: does your urine have to be brown or red every time you urinate or?
@ScottYonehiro1
@ScottYonehiro1 2 года назад
Great question brother. The answer is no your urine does not have to be dark colored in order to be suffering from rhabdomyolisis. A person could suffer from a mild form of rhabdo and still have a light colored urine. It sounds like you might have simply just over worked your chest and should be perfectly fine.

I was training for the army and got it. 6 days in the ICU. I wish I saw this before all this crap happened. And it was really crap, couldn't move my right leg up at all, when driving back had to move it with my hand to change pedals. At that point was thinking that this is still only the most extreme soreness - and it made sense, since they just killed us on the first day, and the other two days. But, only one other person from that training group had a bit of dark urine, no-one else, but me. Mind y'all I'm pushing 40 and have been a cannabis user for 20 odd years, so did this contribute to me getting rhabdo, and if so, how does weed do this? What is the chemical process that enables rhabdo in (almost) chronic weed smokers? Blood tests. You don't test for traces of rhabdo. Rhabdo is just the medical term for a lot of things happening in your body all at once. It's a massive build up of CK, bone muscle tissue that was destroyed, and Myoglobin being filtered through your kidneys at a rate that could potentially damage or completely destroy the kidneys. Be safe when working out. From a person who's experienced Rhabdo first hand, I'd rather have been shot in the leg, than experience that again.

The second day of intense pain from overtraining is very common and referred to as D.O.M.S. (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness). I'd say that the biceps are probably one of the most common areas to get overworked and become so painful that you cannot move them. That being said, if you are peeing a dark color and feeling flu like symptoms, I would definitely get checked out by a Doctor for Rhabdo, at least a zoom appointment.

@ScottYonehiro1
@ScottYonehiro1 3 месяца назад
So sorry I didn't catch this one earlier. It's due to progressive conditioning of the body that allows more advanced gym goers to push to failure and not get rhabdo. Also, pushing to failure is perfectly fine to do. It's pushing past failure that is usually the cause of rhabdo. That means, that even after reaching failure in a set, that person rests longer and then does more sets to failure on the same muscle group to continually tear down the area. That's just not productive at all and past any benefits of hypertrophy.

@ScottYonehiro1 3 года назад
So sorry that you were hospitalized for 6 days with the Rhabdo, Joanna. Actually quite a few people have been injuring themselves lately due to hitting a workout too hard after all the inactivity of the lockdown. After my first case of Rhabdo I'd say that I caught it about 3 more times. Each time was enough to get me bed ridden for a day or two but no hospitalization was necessary. I knew I was going to get it too when I felt myself pass a pain threshold in my workout. You just have to be more conscious of how much you're pushing in your workouts and gradually work up to harder and harder sets. As for when you can go back to a normal routine, well everyone is different in that regards. After my first bout, I went back to working out very lightly, about a week after my symptoms cleared. I went back to a normal routine after about a month. I would advise getting very intimate with your body and listen to it carefully each day as you progress back to a healthier you. I hope you're not sidelined too long girl. Gotta get your beast mode back on when you're ready to. 👍

@Connor Edwards, best thing to do if the hospital doesn't want to admit you is to stay really hydrated, get in some serious sleep/rest, and take a good protein shake at least once per day. Drink plenty of water so that you're able to get your urine back to a normal color or clear. We heal when we rest so try NOT to exert yourself while at home and healing. I suggest to throw in a shake because I've found that a lot of people lose their hunger when suffering from Rhabdo. The protein shake is easily digestible protein, vitamins, and minerals, to help with the healing process. Try to get in some healthy carbs too so that your muscles will hydrate better. Keep these up and you'll run the term soon enough brother.

@@ScottYonehiro1 I’m not an active guy. Chronic pain stopped me from lifting years ago, and the drugs I was on made my BP spike if I strained too much. Been off a lot of the narcotics for ~1 year, and decided today to try swimming a few laps at the pool. Swam for half an hour, felt like I used to after a workout. Pumped, jelly arms, all those familiar feelings. Except that since I’ve been home, my urine has been a dark orange/brown color, but other than standard muscle soreness from exercise, I don’t have any other (noticeable?) symptoms. I drink a minimum of half a gallon of water a day. Usually it’s about a gallon with a decent diet. Even when I lifted/first started lifting, I never had this. And I feel like I’ve gone much harder in the gym than is even possible in a pool. Did I just shock my body on accident or something?

It’s been almost a year since you had it so it’s no longer in your system. Should you have gone to the hospital? Perhaps... but you’re fine now and just need to be more aware when you’re physically exerting yourself. While most people get rhabdo through intense workouts you can get it from any type of physical exertion if you push yourself far beyond your limits.

Is it possible to get rhabdo again? My son had it about a month ago, with ck levels as a high as 73,000 initially. It was trending down but I had it checked again last week and its still 563, up from 300 a week before. @ScottYonehiro1 4 года назад
Marilou Lanahan A person absolutely can get Rhabdo again and again if not careful. For one thing you need to make sure that your son is staying sufficiently hydrated. I’ve found it to be common in young teen athletes to NOT be properly hydrated. Most are drinking significantly less than needed by their growing bodies especially if they’re training almost every day. Funny enough, I’ve found this to be significantly true with young tennis players. The amount of cardio they do is extremely rigorous. Look below in the comments to see what happened to another young tennis player and his Rhabdo experience.

I’m 18M and I started doing a workout routine this week. I started out pretty mild and I decided to push myself on the last day of the week (I’m pretty skinny so it was hard, it was all body weight like diamond push-ups and inverted rows). I had a lot of pain at night that had me massaging my muscles that was mostly concentrated in the back side of the shoulders. Over the day it has slowly toned down but still hurts. I can move my arms and do a wide range of movements but with pain. I’ve never felt pain that severe and my pee is clear since I’ve been drinking a lot of water. I think I see some swelling on my shoulders and I’m really worried. The pain is concentrated on the back sides of my shoulders and it’s been a bit over 24 hours. Should I start worrying if my pee changes color or should I be worried by now?
@ScottYonehiro1
@ScottYonehiro1 3 года назад
Great question and in truth one can severely over work muscle groups without going into rhabdomyolisis. Working out to the point of extreme soreness, and lack of movement range of motion within the first 48 hours, is actually more common than not. Over the next day or two I’d pay attention to how you feel temperature wise. If you feel feverish, burning up and with full body aches, then I definitely suggest you call your doctor or go in for a check up. It’s always better to be safe than sorry. 🤙
@mbr05c
@mbr05c Год назад
That sounds like DOMS or more commonly known as delayed onset muscle soreness. What you are experiencing is most likely not rhabdo, not the way you are describing it. If you are super new to the gym pushing yourself too hard can result in soreness that lasts a week. If it lasts that long, first things first, take it easy. Results take a long time and overtraining can have an adverse effect. Good luck with it, if in doubt go get some blood work done, but I would say what you are dealing with is not likely rhabdo.

First off, great job with hydrating yourself back to a normal colored urine. Secondly, after busting your arms that badly, it may take a week or so to get them feeling normal again and not hurting. So I’m not a seasoned fit person. 👎🏻 I’m trying to do better! But this Monday I walked one mile and then did a CrossFit RU-vid program. I did 10 squats and something else where you lay on your back and hold your legs up and move them up and down. Sorry idk the name. Instantly! I mean instantly, I was yelling in pain. My daughter got me an ice pack and I stayed put the rest of the night. It was almost unbearable to make it to use the restroom. I could barely stand or sit. So today’s Friday and I got off of work which I sit at a desk during the day and I noticed that my feet are swollen and so are my legs from my knees down. Originally, I hurt from my knees up and now I’m having swelling from the knees down and it’s been four days. So I googled this condition and found your video and I was wondering do you think it’s because I haven’t exercised in probably 10 years (doms) or do you think it’s this more serious condition. I’m drinking tons of water I did use a heating pad but that made the swelling worse. I am still in pain but nowhere near as much pain as Monday just sore really sore and almost like wobbly when I walk like my muscles want to give out. So far the urine is clear but I do drink tons of water and it may be darker first thing in the morning but I think that’s been pretty normal. Thanks for any advice.

@@saisriharshavadaboina9331 You absolutely should be careful and worried about those vital organs. Remember that staying well hydrated before working out will help to prevent that from happening again.

It sounds like you went through a mild form of rhabdo and now you’re out of it. Thankfully it wasn’t severe. 🤙

Iam 18 years old and I have been training for several years, I have done heavy training many times, but I have always neglected my legs, I usually ran for them, 3 days ago I decided for the first bodybuilding leg training to bring them in proportion to the upper body, I used to I do strong trainings and I did that for my legs as well, after a few hours of training I already started to get inflammation of the muscles in my legs, in three days my quadriceps almost recovered, but the calves are swollen and painful especially left, I can't walk properly , I can hardly stretch my leg at the end and I feel a little dehydrated even though I drink a lot of water,my left calves is 40% bigger than normal.What is your opinion,is it a chance i have rabdo??!

Strong Beast It sounds like you have more than Rhabdo going on there. You should go and see a doctor to make sure you’re alright and that there isn’t something more severe going on. I’m seriously concerned about your left calf being 40% bigger than normal. That is really severe and needs to be looked at my friend.

First off, I’m not a doctor. Secondly, you should go see your doctor. It sounds like you may have a bout of Rhabdo but you won’t know for sure unless you get checked out. Hope you feel better soon. 👊
