I love how Laenor acknowledges Harwin’s connection to the boys. Laenor is their father, but is grateful to Harwin for giving him and Rhaenyra children and they all seem to have such a wonderful friendship and love.
It’s so sad how Laenor and Rhaenyra tried but still couldn’t have kids together. Their parents were stupid for making them marry when they both knew Laenor is gay and can’t have sex with women.
Laenor is a fool. If he knows he can’t produce children with Rhanerya then he should’ve had his marriage annulled or at least tell Rhanerya to go sleep with a dude with Silver hair and purple eyes. This decision that Laenor and Rhanerya made with Harwin literally tore the realm apart and resulted in the death of half of the Targaryen family
Her response to that too me out “…a certain insolence runs in the family” and then smiles at him, basically she meant he sleeps on his watch too but in her bed 😂 love it! Wish they’d show more of their relationship together
Now that we know Laenor faked his death and is living in Essos, I have to imagine him hearing about Luke’s awful death and being heartbroken. He clearly loved and cared about them.
He may have died in the intervening years. Or at least shortly after the Dance began. Not sure if we will see it onscreen but Laenor has to die by the time the dragonseeds are summoned, otherwise his dragon Seasmoke couldn't be claimed by the one that managed it in the books.
@@lichcoin6144 They might just have Laenor come back as Addam, since both his and Alyns origin are very disputed. They could go for a Mouse having Alyn with Corlys (considering he is the more likely father of them over Laenor) and then Laenor just pretending to be his brother and everyone going along with it.
ngl I wish we had seen the relationship between him and Rhaenyra actually develop, especially since there are background interactions between them but these usually pass within seconds. Like the way he smiles at her when she returns from her runaway trip from the hunt, or how he's the one to "catch" her in the city at her night out and lets her go and all, and how he dances with her at her wedding too. I wish there'd been more like an actual sort of romance between the two - Laenor and Joffrey got their two minutes as well, after all.
Laenor is such a good guy. He gives Rhanerya and Harwin alone time and he nods at Harwin before he shuts the door. I hope we see him in season 2. So sad Laenor and Rhanerya tried but still couldn’t have kids of their own.
Lmao he’s no saint for this, this is a lavender marriage and everyone knows it. Him and Rhaenyra were in open marriage where he could have sex with who he wanted and she could do the same. This is in no way shape or form an affair. It annoys me when people act like that one Corlys dude was right calling Rhaenyra’s children bastards because they weren’t, we and the people of the hotd world knew her husband is gay and that he does want he wants sexually and so does she. Now I will agree that she could have just chosen some Targaryen relative to get the silver and purple eyes look. However most people seemed most bothered by the fact that the boys are white and not black looking. Which doesn’t make sense since Laenor is half white and half black, and Rhaenyra is white… that’s gonna make a white baby. It’s like the show runners assumed people would be stupid and get obsessed with the different race aspect without realizing that the boys are in fact the correct race, unfortunately they were right.
@@Jakegothicsnake I don’t think it would. The greens would’ve compared the “common” looking strong boys to the Valyrian looking Hightower boys and said that they are more Targaryen, thus more fitting for rule. They only to have avoided trouble was to not marry again (Viserys I mean) but even then there would’ve been conflict between Rhaenyra and her uncle. There is another Targaryen civil less then 80 years from this one and it was over the succession.
They are technically bastards in a way. Children she had from another man. Even though they all knew, it wasnt right in the eyes of everyone else, even if they had agreed and arranged for it.
Mad respect for Laenor. He wanted to have kids with Rhaenyra yet he can't do it because he is gay yet he allowed Sir Harwin to be the surrogate. Both wife and husband seem to have mutual respect with each other. Also Jace and Luke continuing Rhaena's tradition of placing a dragon egg on a newborn Targaryen's cradle.
@@hailey5179 It was actually done with all of Rhaenyra's children and they all hatched. Meanwhile, none of Viserys I's kids eith Alicent had those cradle eggs. Instead they claimed their own.
Jace, Luke, and Joffrey were lucky to have three dads to care for them during their lives (Laenor, Harwin, and Daemon), while Aegon and Aemond's one dad ignored them. No wonder they're messed up.
1:05 There is a saying that I once heard, that the way you know how a parent loves their child is in the way they tell them "no". So blood or not, Laenor was their father and he loved those boys.
With your indulgence, I have two questions for all of you: 1. Is it my imagination, or do Laenor and Harwin seem to have a cordial relationship with one-another, and seem to want to make the best of an impossible situation? 2. Am I weird for taking some consolation that Laenor comes to a better end in the show than in the previously published material? Granted, I wouldn't call it a "...feel good..." moment, and there were all sorts of consequences and repercussions, but at least it was a tiny ray of optimism.
Laenors not stupid or blind he knows Harwin is the father cause he and Rhaenyra couldn’t have kids so to Laenor the whole situation is necessary if they want heirs that both their families demand as part of their duties as the future rulers of Westeros.
Harwin and Laenor are very alike, both are noble and well -intentioned. He never had selfish intentions and never demanded anything in return (unlike some knight who is now the dog of Alicent)
And to think, if Rhaenyra hadn’t have been seen acting inappropriately with daemon in the brothel, she wouldn’t have been forced to marry laenor quickly in case her virtue was questioned, she could have chosen her own husband. Her father had given her permission to choose a husband that pleased her, and Harwin would have been eligible as a husband. Oh, what could have been 💔💔💔
If Rhaenyra was allowed to marry Daemon this would have been unpopular with the lords but in my opinion it would've made the Targaryens stronger. Buuuuutttt there is another that if Viserys had seen Otto's manipulation to did not marry Alicent for that matter then the dance would not have even happen, and Rhaenyra would've wed someone she choose as she wishes, the line of succession would've have been secured.
It really lends credence to the man Harwins father was. Viserys is looking for a king consort for Rhaenyra, and not once does Lyonel ever suggest his own son....large contrast to Otto pretty much pimping out his daughter.
And to think, Viserys thought Harwin’s father was going to suggest him and Rhaenyra to wed. It certainly should have happened since he was a good man and loved Rhaenyra even with their relationship forever in the shadows. Thanks for uploading.
Harwin was heir to Harrenhal, one of the grandest seats in Westeros and his father was a man Viserys liked and respected, he would have been a suitable match for Rhaenyra, if she'd picked him back when she could pick it would have saved Westeros a lot of trouble
Unfortunately, Harwin's father would not have agreed, and he's the head of House Strong that needs to give his permission for his sons to wed. During the Kingswood hunt, after Rhaenyra refuses the Lannister match, Lyonel asks whether Viserys would like his opinion, to which Viserys replies if Lyonel is now going to suggest his son, Harwin Breakbones, as a match for Rhaenyra, to which Lyonel (being the honorable idiot he is) replies that no, he would never assume, House Strong is too low a house to be a match for the princess, and instead he suggests Laenor Velaryon himself. So Harwin also wasn't set up to compete for Rhaenyra's attention during her marriage tour lateron, either (since that seemed very much a lineup of contestants from basically all houses no matter how great or small, all wanting to make a power grab for some Valyrian blood for their family tree). It's a shame, really.
When i first watched this show i honestly thought i heard Hawrin say "another boy I had" instead of "another boy I heard". How chill and open Laenor is with that i thought lol
I bet you Rhaenyra was hoping that her Valyrian genes would win out when conceiving a child with Harwin and that they would all get silver hair. Unfortunately, no pun intended, but Ser Harwin's seed was strong.
Ironically, according to the Wiki, one of the few "genes" (if it can be called that in Westeros lol) that can override Targaryen genes is the blood of the First Men, which is also why Jon Snow is dark haired rather than having Targaryen features. And unfortunately, House Strong has the First Men blood as well. :')
@@bluejayprime8953😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂Don't stop listening to Dany and Devitt's stupid lies. Targaryen blood is very strong, but the barthian blood of the Targaryen bastards is stronger.
Please please please HBO give us flashbacks of their relationship!!! I really think they can create more story around them even though it’s not in the books I know how their relationship could come back as a flashback timing wise.... SPOILERS... When her boys are killed - once both are dead - she could have flashbacks of happier times when each were babies. Like how in the books Harwin was there at the birth of one of her sons. We can see him then. Also... Not in the books but - She could have a flashback of when they made the boys too. 😉 Like a kind of sequence of events montage type of flashback. Ryan Corr can bring back his outlaws body for those scenes too. 💦💦💦
Harwin is one of those "perfect" characters I can appreciate. Charming, relatively short screentime and represented what Rhaenyra could've had if she'd been a little less full of herself.
It's a shame Rhaenyra didn't pick Harwin before the brothel scandal happened. He's a good man, and clearly loves his son's. He probably would've made a great husband and father if he'd been given the chance.
The love between Strong & Rhaenyra... Then you see the Paradox between Laenor & Strong... how he knows that deep down those boys aren't his but he knows that be loves them and he chose this life... Then when his sister dies and Strong dies.. the tide turns and the leads to the dance of Dragons
Just noticed that Jace waits until Laenor tells Luke no to holding Joffery, to start hold his little brother back. Jace also stops Luke from touching the egg as it is hot. He is so protective❤
If only Laenor did his duty of "5 minutes" as Husband , the children of Rhaenyra wouldn't be ostracized. And escapes like a coward to leave the boys he proclaimes to love undefended
They tried, but you can't make a gay man have success in a woman's body. And he needed to 'die' so that Rheanyra and Daemon could legally wed. He didn't want to leave the boys but he wasn't cut out for the Game. Besides, in the books, Laenor really was killed.
It’s funny because Ser Harwin is a strong ox of a man and a brute but he’s quite good with the baby and with Laenor and Rhaenyra and even Jace and Luke.
Wish we could have seen more of Laenor's with the Princes and what was their relationship since they had a pretty good idea he wasnt their biological father
If only Rhaenyra chose Harwin. He seems like a competent, passionate, and loving father and partner. It may not have prevented the Dance, but it would at least help Rhaenyras claim a bit more.
His father was even given the chance to put him forward when Viserys asked him directly during the hunt, but refused on account of considering themselves too lowborn for a princess. :( And he would have to be the one to allow it, being head of the House
Lol I think a lot of people here are projecting their own shared custody relationships. Laenor was a good cousin and friend to rhaenyra. And Harwin Strong and Rhaenyra seemed pretty inlove with each other
I feel bad for Harwin. 3 children he cannot say are his in public who he clearly loves very much. He should have married after the first and not cause himself and others so much pain.
How do you make these video/clips. Is there a website or something. Do you download the episode then cut out the clips you want to post? I want to do the same for this show and many other but dont know how.💚
There are characters named Strong in the Golden Company in Essos. Exiles of Westerosi origins. We don't know if they descend from House Strong. In Westeros the house is extinct.
As much as I love Lyonel for not being an ambitious Hand, realm could have benefited if he been a little bit ambitious and offered Harwin to be a candidate for Rhaenyra’s royal consort. Jace and Luke could have known their real father as such and the Greens would have lost one of their arguments to use against Rhaenyra (her three eldest children’s legitimacy). Dance would have probably still happened (because patriarchy members like Otto wouldn’t have want a woman ruling them, especially one under Daemon’s influences) but the Green’s cause would have been weaker
Emma D'Arcy looks the best with the Harwin Strong acror. He compliment the feminity of Emma and both of them are very good looking. Hope we get see them together in some scenes or future projects ❤
The difference in Alicent and Rhaenyra's parenting styles shows best in how their sons treat their brothers and others Aegon and Aemond are arrogant and entitled whereas Jacaerys and Lucerys and respectful and kind to those around them.
Folks, there's a plot thread that I would like to see pulled a little, but, first, credit where credit is due; it is NOT my plot thread. I have read posts and replies from (at least) Zeruel3, Jakegothicsnake, and ladyvimto5546, and I would love for them, and anyone else who put out this idea, to repost their thoughts here. What if Rhaenyra had chosen Harwin as a husband when she was initially looking for one? A few of these thoughts are mine, and most are from the others listed above. In no particular order: Rhaenyra's children (and successors) would all have been legitimate, and therefore she would have been spared one very large political liability. Obviously, all were healthy, strong (no pun intended, honestly) and intelligent. Rhaenyra gets a powerful protector at her side 24/7. Harwin seems to be a pretty good combination of Prince Albert and the Hulk, and that works well for her. Obey the law, treat the queen and her sons with respect, and you get to spend time in the company of Kindly Prince-Consort Harwin. Cause trouble... BREAKBONES SMASH! The very capable Lyonel Strong would not be compromised and would likely remain Hand of the King for a longer time, possibly until (and maybe beyond) Viserys I's eventual death. At the very least, he (and Harwin) would not have been as easy targets for Larys. Speaking of Larys, if Harwin becomes a Prince-Consort to Rhaenyra, it might possibly alter whatever plans Larys had. Granted, since he's clearly a psychopath (no empathy, no guilt) it's difficult to determine what his plans actually were, but he could hardly have been more destructive, so any change would be an improvement. Larys might have become heir to Harrenhal - to be a Prince-Consort, Harwin might have been obliged to renounce his claim to Harrenhal - and that might have satisfied the psycho for a few critical years. As a side note, Laenor - who seems to be a decent fellow - would not have been forced into a role that he was ill-equipped to play. On the other hand... Corlys Velaryon would not have (theoretically) gotten that heir-to-the-throne grandchild that he was so hoping for. Ultimately, he wasn't going to get one anyway, but Corlys couldn't have known that at the time and maybe he would have felt insulted enough to throw in his lot with the Greens. As ladyvimto5546 pointed out in her reply post elsewhere, the future Aegon II - let's call him DiscountAegon because... well, you know - still has a more classical Valyrian appearance, he was the Firstborn (living) Son of Viserys, and so he still might have made a play for the throne. For Rhaenyra's children / successors to be legitimate might dissuade DiscountAegon's ambitions a bit; more likely, it might dissuade some of the lords and nobles from joining the Greens, but there's no guarantee. I'm probably missing some vital avenues to pursue, so I'd love to read any thoughts that you folks might have on the matter.
Harrenhal would go to Lucaerys instead of Larys. Legitimate children would go far to shore up her claim. Also, with Lyonel still on as hand he would work out betrothals to Alicent’s sons so they wouldn’t be a challenge to Rhaenyra’s claim.
I’ll never understand why the issue of Rhaenyra’s kids being bastards was such a huge deal. It was a lot less noticeable with relationships/bastards of those like Jaime and Cersei, but there is NO possible way Laenor wouldn’t have noticed that his children look nothing like him😂. He clearly loved and accepted them as his own rightful kids - since his own sexuality and preferences prevented him from giving Rhaenyra his own children. If he hadn’t faked his death so early in the conflict, I feel like the issue of succession for Rhaenyra’s children would have never come up.
Yes ofc! Both Laenor and Rhaenyra knew about each other’s affairs and who they were with. Laenor even apologized to Rhaenyra in episode 7 I believe for not being able to get her pregnant. So he knew the kids were Harwin’s.
Young children are usually not at court for events. You can see Joffrey when they travel to Kings Landing, but just like Aegon the Younger and Viserys they aren't attending trials or council meetings.
