*I stopped using paper clips and jamming wires in the female connectors many years ago.* *I make my own limit, etc. test jumpers by using wire connecters of male x male...female x female... male x female... small alligator clips both ends...ect. and 18 gauge soft flexible wire from used cords.* *The great thing is, you can make them whatever length and as many as you need.*
I believe it's: Make like a tree and leave. Awesome watching your video and I also feel your pain due to having the same issues working in the field for the past 34yrs.
Call me crazy but I prefer a tight crawl space to a tight attic. Although, I wish all homes were designed with an equipment room with plenty of lighting and space.
@ 4:20 after all the times he has referred to you as "Shannon, I wear my sunglasses at Night" I wished you would have called him "Ted, I wear my sunglasses under the house"
i wanna know how i got into this HVAC rabbit hole , i do not want to work in the field nor do i own a home so i dont even have a HVAC system and ive been watching this stuff for 3 days so far haha
Ted I just watched your whole video I’m recovering from hip replacement surgery and I am not gonna be able to do what you have done ever again, I used to do it all the time. Quite a show. Yes clean all your crap up and get it out that is the best policy.
They got the right man for the job. If you had a helper he or she would only slow you down. Thanks again, nice work. I was suspecting IFC board if it breaks again and the secondary heat exchanger isn't compromised.
That furnace is a down flow furnace Ted, not a an up flow left or right. Look at the badging on the door. From another old time hvac guy in Ontario.👍👍🇨🇦
You been back to this one in 2023. Yep that furnace is way over sized. Is it 160,000 btu 2nd heat exchanger little holes in it, PVC flu is not pitched. Does not have 30" clearance in front of furnace. No Inspector in Charlotte would pass this job. Hope you sold a new one to him this year.
I’ve come across many furnaces/air handlers installed that way, what were they thinking? Install crew “Let’s get this done as fast as possible so we can get home today!” Service technician “FML, I do not like the install crew, I do not like green eggs and ham, I do like it Sam I am” 😂 Post Script I do not like rheem/ruud either. Nice job as always Ted…had to add this!! Can’t even get a stubby for that inducer screw awful design, jeesh
Dealt with a Similar switch issue lately. It wasn't getting voltage to control it because the control board had burned itself out because the venter motor ceized up. 2 problems, 1 furnace..
I like your video's find them interesting. I di notice all the dust and insulation floating around your attics. Good cameras . You should consider wearing dusk masks more often. A lot of that might be more than insulation. Take care
I carry with me a small extendable magnet in my shirt pocket so that if I drop a small screw or nut I can use the small magnet to find it for me….I call it going fishing with my magnet. Never fails when I don’t have it with me and I drop a screw I feel around for it and usually cut my hand or finger……..the magnet saves all that!
That install should be against code. Same with attics. HVAC equipment should be installed in a separate mechanical room outside the house. Only duct work in the crawl or attic.
Make like a tree and leaf. I have one of those heavy duty 0step stool from Harbor Freight that looks tall enough that it may straddle over that pipe and you can use it for a seat in cases like this one.
This is why I'm pretty sure my balance is too poor for HVAC work. I'd stumble over those pipes, fall and break something worse than it was when I got there. Oh well, I can still enjoy your videos. How hard is it these days to get USA-made start/run capacitors?
Could you have checked continuity on the switch to see if it actually closed? I mean I’ve been there, right spot and cold. Maybe I’ve been out of the field too long.
In an attic or a crawlspace I just do not believe condensating furnace belongs. If I was working for myself out in the field I would never put a condensating furnace in somebody’s crawlspace. All furnaces are multiposition if it was easier to access it for service having it flipped the other way it could’ve happened. I had a call aunt my work where the inducer was working just not pulling enough. It sounded different than the under furnaces. It was at a school
When you get one or both knees replaced you will remember this job and jobs like this as did I when I had one of mine replaced. Just a the price we all pay for being or have been in the trade. Oh, hot shower and liniment too.
I had the same problem with the doors on my furnace not lining up and leaking, Turns out whoever installed my furnace must have forgotten his level because my cabinet was all twisted up!
You are right, Bif said "make like a tree and get out of here" because he was a dumb guy in Back to the Future. The real quote that makes more sense is "make like a tree and leave" which in itself is a derivative of make like a tree and leaf (for today's dumb guys)
It is not being "Trane washed" imo the Rheem line is in the top 3 for the worst designed furnaces every made for a service tech. The old saying is "if you don't leave meet the job is not complete." They live by that motto!
If you had to leave the job site for parts, perhaps a couple of plumbing pipe connectors could be purchased to be used to connect the white pipe. Cut the pipe, do the repair, reconnect the pipe with no-hub connectors. Just an idea for the next time. A couple of by-pass wires with male/male, female/female and male/female would be a great addition to the tools taken to the unit.
Make like a tree and leave. I that’s the saying Ted. Your still pretty limber sitting between the furnace and a big pvc pipe. Sure was an awful lot of lint floating down all around you
