And how did that lone soldier get all that gear out in the middle of a desert? You need a Humvee to carry all that shit. Launcher, tripod, ammo, spare ammo, rangefinder, IR programmer, batteries ... that must weigh a ton. The downside of all that fancy gear.

I was wrong actually, I desribed it's purporse how it seemed ratonal for me. It is sont used in 1st line trenches for the same reason artillery is not used there - it will have unadeqate losses. It is used as a platoon in the batalion reserve or in squads (2 pieces in each) in the space between company positions or on the fanks - to control the space between the positions.
It is desingnet to hit lying/crawling infantrymen from above (like big artillery does it). As far as I undestand is a weapon of an infantry batalion and a platoon of such things is used on the enemy's main offensive direction.
Yeah, these presenters haven't studied war...I think it is better to fire the conventional ammunition. It is cheaper and more reliable; specifically, it is .998 reliable. In the real world, the soldiers manning the heavy weapons are prioritised first. By the time the soldier judges distance, programs the fuse, adjusts aim and puts effective fire downrange, the enemy will have suppressed/destroyed the soldier. Hell...counter-battery fire will have rounds returning to the firing point in ~20 seconds. The 40mm ammunition flies like a brick, with a significant oscillation. The maximum spread of that test-bed weapon, at that short-range, demonstrates this; at extended ranges, the programmable fuse is unreliable due to the external ballistic profile of the munition. Imagine it mounted on a vehicle or some muddy/shale hillside. The effective range of M430A1 is 2200m. The bottom line...it is an area weapon. Put a lot of rounds down-range, fast. Switch targets, fast. Don't get shot. Marketing departments suck; any procurement department listening to these features/benefits should be fired. Who is going to carry all that? The Mk19 is old and dumb, but it is cheap and reliable. Buy ammo and train.
anyone going to mention how the IR light could give your position away at night . Also what if two units are operating at the same time perhaps only one dose fire control and the other guns are slave devices, but what if they want to target separately and could the enemy set up another IR source to do denial of service or even worse reprogram fire control info
Das video ist richtig schlecht. Hauptsache die 40mm Granate wird direkt samt Casing verschossen. Man sollte meinen Leute die solche videos machen sollten Ahnung davon haben.
