The amount of money and years of my life I’d give up to be able to go back in time to this exact moment in this exact crowd is unreal!!!! The people that were there have no clue how lucky they truly are
Those of us who were alive and into the music being made back then KNEW what we were getting and I'm SO thankful to have experienced it. The kids today have some good music available but anyone stuck in the Rap Culture I truly feel sorry for them.
I was in high school and went to the Rumors tour. I have no words. What a time it was. I watch these old videos to keep from losing my memory of this incredible music. 63 years old and still rockin.
I was in my mid twenties and was able to see them several times and I’m not a big fan of going to concerts. Saw them in Santa Monica civic auditorium, (Small theater about 5,000 seats) the LA Forum, The Summit in Houston and spent a ton of money for Great Seats in Charlotte. 5 rows off the side of the stage and no obstructions
Those last few minutes after the breakdown are fantastic. A real shining example of what singing and playing sounded like before auto tune and backing tracks. Stevie and Lindsey kill it.
The whole band kills it. John’s bass is outstanding, Stevie is fire, Christine is the rock that she always was, Lindsey never misses a note, and old Mick is as cool as a cucumber on the drums. One of the best bands to ever walk the face of the earth.
I agree with 50% of what you said, Lyndsey is the man. The proof of that - it took two guitarists to fill Lyndsey's shoes when he wasn't in the band, and they still couldn't capture that sound. But as far as Stevie Nicks talents are concerned, I feel like she is trying to channel the spirit of Janis Joplin, and she fails miserably. Her voice is not strong enough to break through the rhythm section when they crank it up. Did you ever hear Janis get drowned out by her band? Nuf said! I don't blame Lyndsey for giving snide looks to Stevie when she acted like a prima dona, I would do the same thing. Apparently this she could not abide, and she stabbed Lyndsey in the back and got him kicked out of the band. I know I went off topic here, but I can't root for someone who is not a team player, and way overrated by the adults in the room who all had a crush on her in the first place.
@@swedejohanson7739 Very well said....I don't think they got the musicianship credit where it was due, particularly the very underrated (and very solid) John McVie, whom I'm glad you listed first in your post. 👍
Lorne Michaels killed The Midnight Special to make room for SNL. He ordered the original Ampex video tqpes destroyed and most were. Burt Sugarmen rereleased 8 intact episodes, other than that only short segments are available online.
Hands down the BEST live performance of this song I've ever seen. I think what makes it great is that all of them are firing on all cylinders at the same time. From about 3 minutes in you can see the intensity in Stevie. Man, she really lets it rip, wow!! What's cool is in 1976 as this was being played I doubt anyone had any idea how big these guys were going to become. Also look at Lindsey just going at it...he's amazing too....just wow love it!!
Oh we knew. Everyone was blown away by them back in the day. They were super-beloved. On the radio all the time. There was something almost mystical about them and their talent.
The music back then was great now,mi don’t listen to anything new, was listening to Hendrix woke up this morning found myself dead almost 57 years old, shyt nothing good now
I’m happy I was a badass teenage RHIANNON myself loving FM LOVED BOTH STEVIE and CHRISTINE Stevie almost puts her entire a HEART WHILST CHANTING A BIT THEN GOING FULL OUT LINDSEYS SCREAMING GUITAR REMINDING a of ERIC CLAPTON) AGAIN STEVIE maybe sensuously, then, SHE HITS THAT TAKE ME WIND! TAKE ME LIKE THE SKY! FULL THROTTLE EPIC ! ICON! ORIGINAL ROCK CHIC! MADE ME LOVE …HER AND THE BIG MAC! RIP CHRISTINE 🌙💔🕊️🕊️🔮
I grew up in the late 70s and early 80s. I got to see or hear the evolution of Rock music. The 80s New Wave really began with The Cars in the late 70s. Of course the there were a lot of other bands as well. But I also think the music artist during the 70s were so much more creative with catchy melodies and choruses. The songs were heart felt and relatable. So much so that I find myself humming 70s music more than any other decade. The 70s definitely was a great time for music. Right on man!
@@kalament1969, i really don’t like the term “underrated” and i never use it myself but i have to give you a pass regarding lindsey buckingham. he is a prodigy, a virtuoso. years ago i saw him play on austin city limits and it made an amazing impression on me.
This version of Fleetwood Mac was always celebrated for their songwriting, singing, visual prowess and their personal drama. This performance here is a reminder that they were superb musicians as well.
The drive of John McVie and Mick Fleetwood in this song is so cool. It keeps the mystery of the witch Rhiannon in the story, without restraining Stevie Nicks to go full out. That's magic. Any other drummer would have been thundering away.
When I first saw Lady Stevie Nicks sing, I instantly saw her as the most beautiful, graceful, and interesting human being and her voice was instantly hypnotic and soothing. And now after all these decades, she is the most beautiful, graceful, interesting human being with the most hypnotic voice. She is a true queen!!
I wonder if they knew at the time how epic this performance was. You can see Lindsey looking at Stevie and knowing she is feeling it and it motivates him as well. And now to see this cleaned up in HD video, thank you.
To all those shows like The Voice or American Idol, Australian idol etc. You are trying to discover and engineer talent. You will never find talent and bands like these. They form serendipitously. The ending of this performance is pure magic captured in a bottle….never to bed replicated.
Saw Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles and Boz Scaggs in 1976 at Sullivan Stadium for $9.00!!!! Watching this brought me back to that time. What a time it was for some of the best music ever.
There is no fancy light show or distracting props, just wonderful and captivating music. Now these guys are true artist, which is very rare these days.
She starts out tired, a little nervous. Perfunctory. But then she starts to feel the band, and the band starts groovin, and she starts to feel her mojo. And then the Band see's her start to take off into one of her "things" and that inspires them into an even deeper groove. Now they're rippin and Jammin, and Stevie starts to channel her inner Rhiannon, as whe spookily belts out this great tune. A sight to behold.
This is my absolute favorite performance of this classic song Stevie’s vocals give me chills, and the shear power at the end of this is stunning. It’s almost like she could explode. Wish I could have been there …..This band live was a beast.
The lighting hitting her bangs and making a perfect shadow framing her face, combined with sparkly makeup - GREAT. Stevie has one of the most beautiful faces in rock ever. And she definitely has talent which stands on its own, regardless of anything else - amazing voice and range! Upon re-watching the video now, during the chorus, are you noticing something? Lindsey hangs back from his mic, while Stevie leans in! And he also has his huge smile on his face at most times, right? He is absolutely blown away by her voice and wanted to create the ultimate platform for her to shine, didn't want to get in the way himself too much. And he doesn't - I can barely hear his signature countertenor during the chorus, while Stevie's full-throated alto bursts forth like angelic tones that we love her for. And she puts so much more heat on her delivery of the chorus then she did on the studio version - I would've been absolutely thrilled to be in the audience on this performance. Though of course I should've said so when I first posted my comment, another wonderful upload, Midnight Special people! Keep it up!
I've been in love with Stevie Nicks since I was a teen and being introduced to FM and her solo albums beginning with Belladonna.🥰🥰🥰Miss Stevie Nicks 🥰🥰🥰
For 30 plus years there have always been certain songs that watching stevie hit with a mystical nuance that STILL makes the hairs in the back of my neck stand...... WOW
Right now Stevie Nicks is on tour. Still rocking it. Sometimes with Billy Joel. Music of my high school years and still so good. Seeing Christine McVie doing harmony with Stevie makes me sad she’s gone. So much talent in one group.
I just saw her last week, and man can she still sing! Her range is lower than it was, but the power and soul is still there in her voice! She performed a whole 2 hour long concert too! Not bad for being 75! I would recommend seeing her on this tour for sure!
What young guy in 76 DIDN'T have a crush on Stevie..lol. A Great performance. Thanks for releasing these midnight special vids. Tried to catch them, whenever I could, back in the day.
I wanna go back so bad. Listening to this music as a young kid...I had no idea how much it would mean to me when I got old. Everything was so much better back then.
George , the local government thieves and badges stole Our house and EVERYTHING in it over back property taxes that are actually extortion They trgetted My Family and Me because We were vulnerable.... They stole a MASSIVE music collection that BELONGS to My Family and Me too They are demons in human form or whatever creatures they are
Definitely true, when he got fired from the band, they needed 2 guitarists to take his place, he’s that good. Could still kick myself for missing his solo tour.
I'm glad you said that, I've been studying voice for years, so, I couldn't put my finger on what was bothering me, and it's the unique sound of her voice, she doesn't sound like anyone else, plus, she does have some vocal skills, which prior to studying, I never thought she did🤔🎵🎶
A great example of how a female singer can be amazing, beautiful, sexy and mesmerizing without needing to be half naked, coated in a ton of makeup, mimicking sex acts on stage, or needing voice auto-tune. True freaking talent, no BS. Go Stevie!
Much sexier to leave a little to the imagination instead of throwing it all out there on display. You resort to cheap thrills when you have no talent. Just my opinion.😮
Still one of the best performances of all time. I remember the first time I heard it. Have never really been a FM fan, but this is like nothing else. 🌟
I was almost a 13 year old boy back then, even now, I completely understand my crush on Stevie Nicks, the music was so good, she was the "older" girl next door.
Why can't rock and roll be like this anymore why has my generation lost the raw emotion and creativity to make music as captivating as this.. Stevie nearly turned I to Rhiannon herself at the end of this performance it gives me goosebumps every single time
The best of both Stevie and Ann Wilson came out in 1976. This is the best version of this song I've heard. It's too bad I only heard the radio versions back in.
I love Ann even more actually. I think her voice is even better than Stevie's. Those notes she hits, just wow. Like her and her sisters personalities better too. Thanks for mentioning Ann too. Stevie is incredible too though , just not as much as Ann to me lol .
Seeing that performance on tv back then, I didn't appreciate it because of my youth. Now, it seems so foreign to actually see an artist play an instrument and sing live flawlessly. I miss that era.
The Midnight Special was insanely good with insanely good performances. This is either a walk down memory lane or insight into a time when music required talent. Todays groups are nothing more than a background for selfies, they lack the intimacy of shared experience and getting lost in the pleasure of the song.
The sheer rawness that shreds thru this version will forever cement it in the minds of all who hear it…be it the first time or the millionth time…pure magic of a time gone by…
This my favorite Fleetwood Mac song. Stevie, sings it better than ever. Fleetwood Mac is my number one favorite band. RIP Christine McVie you are missed, but we have your music that will live on forever in our lives and hearts. 🙏🕊🌹🎵
me and my GF at the time lived for this weekly show! every Fri night we'd get a motel room and watch the show, high AF of course! 😁 think the room was like only 10 bucks a night, but nice little motel, had it's own little restaurant.. fun times! ☮
I agree. I saw her do several shows, every song to this level, which is absurd. She's kept it purring and while she's not even close to where she was here in her 20s [who is?] she's not bad for 75. I've seen her recently and while the voice is okay, she doesn't have the music passion that she once did. I suppose after singing the same songs for nearly 50 years, it would be impossible. But she's out there slinging it from time to time.
the best version of this song 4 sure. i like the smile she gives at the beginning. and the camera angles make it interesting like the views looking up and spinning around, psychedelic groovy 70s man
The most amazing thing is these are different lyrics from the album. An added verse, or line removed…I am grateful I will relive these musical memories!
I'm very late to their music, but I'm loving this performance. Great band, and Nick's voice is extremely unique and strong. They're all very talented! 👍🏻
Oh my goodness! I watched this performance back in '76! I was 12 years of age, and was convinced Stevie Nicks was the most beautiful human being in the world. Sigh...what memories. Thanks so much for posting this stellar performance! Rock! 🤙🎸🎶
@@autk OH dude! I'm sorry for your pain and agony. That Robert Plant catterwalling stupid screaming voice.....He had two good songs and the rest were CRAP! Can't even listen to them. If they ring true for you....good on ya. Me? I'll stick with Fleetwood Mac. Thanks for playing!!!!
