In this Rhino 3D tutorial, we will create a basic trackball model. The goal is to teach you the basics of surface styling, the right way. So we won't be pulling surface points, everything is created using clean and simple curves as a base. To edit the surface, we will edit the construction curves and rebuild the surface again.
This technique can be applied to almost any complex model, as the network surface is a very powerfull tool inside rhino. You can easily create more complex shapes by editing the base curves.
Make sure you have basic Rhino skills already. To follow this tutorial, all this should sound familiar:
- draw freeform curves
- edit freeform curves by dragging and deleting points
- match curves with tangency
- rebuild curves
- use surface commands like loft, sweep 2 rails, network surface,...
- use the transform tools like move, copy, mirror,...
- use object snaps
- use layers, navigate in the viewports, hide/unhide objects,...
