Might help you understand better: This play was written during the time of Nazism and some friends of Eugene Ionesco of high intellectual were swayed by this ideology as well. They began following and supporting Nazism. To Eugene, it was as ifthey turned nazis overnight (showed in the case of Jean). One day they were criticising it and boom, the other day they were one of them. Hence, this play was composed. Here writer has used "Rhinoceros" because of 2 reasons; first, because they are thick skinned animal which is also a proverb (moti chamdi) used for people whom reason and fact doesn't work. Second, because Rhino has blinkered vision i.e., limited or narrow vision much like people with heard mentality who follow anything (here ideology) without giving it a second thought.
If you read this play carefully, you will actually enjoy it. I loved reading this when my professor was teaching this. And those who are saying it is Absurd, off course it is! It is an absurdist play.
@@aminakhatun5816 it's a style of writing that writers followed during 1940- 1960 especially in France. Plays under this category question the meaninglessness of life. They endeavor to portray that life is monotonous, a continuous repetition. Such Plays lack a coherent plot and have illogical dialogues that repeat. There's no clear beginning or ending. Best example is "Waiting for Godot" by Samuel Backett.
According to me, The term Rhino is used a Free Flowing thought or A Wave of Change refering to modernism or anything that forces people to adapt to it. With that reference, everyone is trying to ride that wave while some don't want to.
I think the writer is trying to say that, everyone is just doing what others around them doing but not following his heart's inner voice. But we have to be tougher like Bérenger and have to know our worthiness...
@@extreme4642 exactly I'm doing the same But own voice ko follow krne me Bhut mushkilen aati h or bhut takleef hoti h Pr fir v hum nhi chorenge or apne dam pe jitenge
Thank you so much sir for narrating the story so beautifully. I'm a final year student and my exam starts on this March. It really helped me a lot. Thanks again Sir 👍
Sir aapne btaya ki berenger bhi rhinoceros ban jata h fir vo kaise decide karna h ki vo ab daisy k sath human bna rahe ga? Ya shayad aap Jean ki baat kar rahe the ki vo decide karega daisy k sath human he rehneki
This particular piece might sound wired and preternatural.... Still, on looking up the recent situation of our world, this one sure emerges a heavy flavour of reparability and coherence, so to speak.

Kafka's Metamorphosis bhi kuch kuch esa hi he na absurd ....bcz protagonist Gregor Samsa ek din jab uthta he to He finds himself transforming into an Insect
Yes, it shows that the society will do many things, which signifies the conformist ideas, but as Berenger was the only one who did not become Rhinoceros, hence it was the individualism of a person which seperates someone from the society...
Those people who are laughing for this drama maybe they are unable to catch the inner meaning of this drama 🫥 it's not only a drama of becoming Rhinoceros , if we think deeply we will get a message which is connected with Darwin theory.
