Did you notice that when you create a Mesh from your ring with the STL wizzard, you end up with the gems "included" in this mesh... which I doubt is what you'd want if you need to print something to give a smelter. Am I not understanding something ? For me, you'd want to print only the ring, give it to somebody who smelt it, then you put the gems in !?
The STL wizard only creates a mesh(s) from the selected solid objects. If you watch the video again, you will see that the gems are not selected - only the ring.
Your channel profile was a rectangle so it was easy to draw lines to recreate the profile for the bottom of the shank. If I change to a rounded profile, how would you trace that profile?
Hi David. If you use a round or other profile, rather than "draw" over the shape using the Line/Polyline tool, in RhinoGold you can go to the Modeling Tab / Dup Edge (Dupliate Edge), and "click" on the bottom edge of the rounded profile and it will "create" a curve from that. If you rounded profile has a few segments, you may need to click on each adoining segment --> then "join" the curves to create a closed curve. I hope that helps.
