I was looking for a "travel set" of bags to a) carry my stuff on the plane ...and b) throw it on my rental bike (and avoid any extra charges for pannier rental. The price point of these is excellent and easily pays for the rental-fee avoidance! Great vid, thank you very much.
HI Frank, thank you for such a thorough review on the Rhinowalk bags. I had been waiting for a review on these after seeing them on your trip blogs. You definitely put them through the wringer, over the 5-week period. I apricate your review on gear, good or bad. BTW ... that DOC650 is the master of tents, tarps and twine, and a heck of a nice guy too.
Hi Frank. Thanks for the review! I know you're a fan of Nelson Rigg products - have you had a chance to check out their Hurricane Dual Sport saddle bags? If so, wondering how you liked them. Shopping for some 390 luggage and deciding between the Rhinowalk, Hurricane Dual Sports, and Excursion.
Hello Nick, I replied to you post on FB just now. I had a pair available, unfortunately, I was going on an 18 day trip, and they were simply not large enough, so I went with the largest Rhinowalk, which are 20L larger. Build quality is solid, though there seems to be a few more straps than needed. 🤣 - Frank
FRANK !!!! - For me - this was my favorite review by far !!!! - This is going to help A LOT of people !!! - I have a set also and absolutely love them. They were a "PRIZE" from my brother - THE MIGHTY DOC 650 !!! - You will be seeing them in an upcoming video - Hopefully soon. I also have the exact same heat shield on my exhaust. Love you my brother - Just a great job on the video !!!!!... BTW, I think I'd put that EXTRA "para-chord" back in there.... Never know when you may come across a stranded Harley, and the guy has no Duct Tape or Bubble Gum left over.... Just saying.....
Hello Obi-Wan, Doc knows what he is doing when in the bush! That tarp has only been needed once, but it saved us from sitting in the rain! Glad your bags are working for you. I may look at pricing this Friday for a dualsport set! You have a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving Dane! - Frank
These look solid for my KTM 390 Adv. As for the concern about lack of molle, I think a 20L tail bag + molle expansions should do the trick? This has been one really solid review. I think I am going to pull the trigger on these! Cheers mate.
I'm using the 14 litre per side version with a 10 litre Rhinowalk tail bag and my tent strapped across the top. I come from a long history of ultralight backpacking so, 38 litres is more than enough space for me. My smaller saddlebags are holding up very well but, of course since they are smaller they carry less weight. I would happily buy them again if they were lost or stolen.
Love your channel! Do you think the 48L bags will fit on your KTM 390 Adventure? I just bought a 2023 KTM 390 Adventure and am also considering these Rinowalk bags. Thanks
Hey mate, thanks for the great review! Going on a 20,000km / 9 month trip through the silk road on a CRF 300 - would you recommend these or do you think they'd hold on?
Hello Advmoto, thats terrifying after what happened to Motogiant. I have been fortunate and no issues after crossing the country and back. Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
Did you end up getting them yet? I’m about to buy a set for my vstrom 800DE but not sure on sizing, apparently 14L on each side shouldn’t be a problem for exhaust.
Hello Piotr, it is. They attack to the passenger pegs but are not blocking you from having a passenger. Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding thanks for your time. Just bought one and it's a great product. And yes, you can strap it under the seat, although with the metal retainers I didn't have to.
Hello, you are right. I keep it there as it's always going to be there though, stuff comes out and goes in, soemhribg egg forgotten. I feel it does nto take long to reach though. And I always tell folsm I ride with where the emergency kit, and my emergency beacon are. Thanks for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding do you ride with a backpack? Something like a cammelbak? IMHO it should be the most accessible equipment you have. For example, if you need to use a tourniquet you probably need to use it fast!
Thanks for this, i liked the design but a few things threw me off this proudct... such as the number of dubious sellers selling unbranded fakes, the supposed quality and rhinowalks own complete flop of promotional videos looking like a 12yo made them im not gunna risk my valuables flying off into the family car behind me at 70mph
Hello Michael, I could not make that work with my seat, the buckles were in places without clearance. So that's going to be bike / seat specific. Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
Great review. Just what I needed to see. I agree with you, there are not really great choices that don't cost an arm and a leg for rackless luggage. If only these had molle webbing. Another note, I have the Giant Loop Great Basin and I hate it. It's hard to pack, it carries it's weight very high and doesn't really hold all that much. Rhinowalk might find it's way on to the T7.
Hello Matt, they really are a great bang for the buck. With you being a Tenere 700 Channel, I picture you running Big Circle gear, the choice of the 1% 😜 - Frank
I just finished a 31000 km/19000 mile trip from the 1st week of may to the beginning of September and nothing went wrong with my 48L Rhinowalks... unbelievable value for the dollar
Thanks for the great review, undecided on buying the 28l or 48. Don't have a big bike but looking at eventually getting 650 VStrom, currently have the 250 Vstrom - not too small size wise.
Hello df3ty, the VStrom 650 is an almost ideal bike. It will comfortably take you almost anywhere. And of course has that Suzuki reliability. Thank you for stopping by and commenting. - Frank
Frank! This is one of your best reviews! Glad you like having the tarp with you! I have the larger Rinowalk bags and they are great but at 48 liters per side, they are a little too large. I Abe getting the smaller size like you have. I like your load out of camping gear! Great job on this video!
It was laying against the muffler heat shield and it looked like one part of the bag was actually in direct contact with the muffler. You didn't say anything about that.
Hello J, I have no had any melting issues. I am sure the bag shifts aournd, but nothing has melted. It's a very small heat shield. Nelson Rigg sells one almost twice as long. If I noticed it becoming a problem, I could get a different shield. Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
It's the standard Quadlock mount they sell. I slowed the footage, I hit it with my helmet! I did keep it in my Nelson Rigg tank bag after this, Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
Hello Hill Quest, happy to help. And from the comments here, it seems they are performing well for a number of people. I expect this week they will have a sale as well. They seem to drop every holiday. - Frank
Another option - "21 Brothers" out of Poland makes some nice gear, and much cheaper than the US counterparts. I ordered the "Pocket" rackless bags, they have been great.
@@mollygrubber how long did it take to receive the 21 Brothers bags? These order page on the website I found somewhat confusing, but I like the idea of the “pockets very much, with paying MM $1k or half that for the tusk copies that have liners that are not easy to get in and out of the pockets Accor to a couple reviews. I used the MM reckless system and it’s a 10, however I am looking for a pocket system that is lighter and less expensive. Does that describe the 21 Brothers bags? Any thoughts about the bags are greatly appreciated.
Great in depth review. I currently use hard cases. I was looking to add soft bags to my gear. I had looked at these and wasnt sure about them. For the price its a great bargain. Heck if you dont get but one good trip out of them they have paid for themselves. Whats a 130 bucks for a 2 week trip? Nothing.
Hello Dave, I was prepared to get the one trip, then they were fine, and I expected the West trip may damage them... however, seven after hitting the ground a few times on the BDRX, they are just fine. I am REALLY getting my $130 worth! - Frank
Great video Frank, personally I would get a set of these bags as you can fit a lot of stuff. My son gifted me a Kriega set that can’t hold as much stuff. Thanks for sharing!
I have the RhinoWalk bags in 14L on each side. The bags themselves are far superior to the Giant Loop Mojavi bags I have in that they are larger and waterproof. Like you I suspect the quality of the straps. I’m not sure I have attached the bags to the WR250R the same twice. If there is a way I’m supposed to do it, I haven’t figured it out. I don’t camp, but carry a front tube, irons, tools, water snacks, rain gear and the other odds and ends I used to carry in a tank bag. I still have room. I don’t remember the cost of the bags but I think I got them for around $100 on an Amazon sale. As a note - I leave my Tusk pannier racks on all the time.
Hello Tim, I just left the bags in for three and a half months, no issues with remembering where I tied them down! In the spring I will have to figure it out. The bike and bags are in TN and likely onky going to be used for local riding until spring. I have seen the smaller bags on your WR250R (Time to sell it!) and I may grab a set for my Honda. For tools and tubes. Dualsport riding in TN is over and hour from the property, so I better have them with me... In NY I rarely bothered. - Frank
One suggestion: pack your tent, poles, tarp, chair and rain gear in a small duffel ahead of the rear box. NONE of these need to be in a waterproof pannier - which means you can compress the side panniers more or use the smaller versions. All are handy to access in the small duffel. NONE are needed if you stay in a motel along the way.
I am very happy that you admitted that you abused them. :) Joke. Very detailed review Frank. Enjoyed it. For an ADV bike the soft luggage is just great. It is not too heavy and it comes also a bit cheaper if we compare it to the hard cases or top boxes prices.
Hello Gregor, I was thinking, that for the price, they would barely survive on trip. Imagine my surprise when they lasted for weeks of trips! Very pleased! - Frank
Hello Ron, I hope they work well. For you. I am honestly, surprised at how they are holding up for the price. If they had an easier way to hold auxiliary bags on top, they would be perfect. - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding I strapped my empty armadillo fuel bag to the top. Plus you ha e those D rings to attach across the bike with extra straps. I think it is fine for me. I haven't had a chance to hit the road with them yet. They are loaded and mounted, but winter is coming
@@ParallelCamper well … if it wasn’t just hearing from Rob, owner and operator of Parallel Camper Inc. has put me on top of the world 🌎 🤣😂 oh … all good here, Rob you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving.
Gracias por este video, estaba dudando si o no, definitivamente irán con mi AT ADV, todo es nuevo para mi, este estilo de bolsas son lo que me gustan, odioo maletas de plástico o metal😂 Gracias🎉❤
My 2x 24L bags arrived today. They look similar quality to Lomo bags but much easier to attach. Mine were half the list price here in the UK at £70. I plan to use them on my Crf300l and TTR600. Great review 👍
This is literally a Chinese company straight up stealing from giant loop. And it appears that no one has actually been critical of this obvious shilling. Or you just delete negative comments. SMH
Hello Tim, I have never deleted a comment. Not one. I am not aware of a Giant Loop bag similiar to this. I paid for this bag on July 23, 2023 on Amazon. I own these bags to this day. They are a Chinese company. Almost every bag made is made by a Chinese company. Including many Giant Loop products. I own two of them myself. I do appreciate the comment. Feel free to reach out in Instagram or email anytime, I reply to every private message. - Frank
Thank you for this review. I'm planning a trip to the Pyreness in September. Racks and aluminium boxes are just to heavy for my baby GS. I reckon these soft panniers will be perfect.
I have the smaller version of the bag and have similar experience of their quality and function. I also added the extra strap since I saw there was some pull in the stitching. Good review!
Hello Kallen, I am. Seeing that quite a few folks, like yourself, have the smaller ones and are quite happy with them. I may need to get a set for my Honda Dualsport. Thank you! - Frank
For half the price of Nelson rigs , it's a no brainer. I have some eBay generic 50 dollars 20 litre bags on my bike for 7 years, no problem except one stitching started to come undone
I have these on my r nineT urban GS Love them have put thousands of miles strap underneath dry storage bag with my rain gear works Great most of the time in the Smokies
Hello Osimnod, I have the 10x8, which is plenty for two people. If I am with more, someone is bound to have another and we can great a larger cover. Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank amzn.to/3H75aoP
You would hope the manufacturer watches reviews on their products to help them improve. It's obvious that the stitching is going to fail first on these, just a matter of time.
Great review. I have a couple of Rhinowalk trunk/tail bags and they have been great. When I bought them they appeared to be identical to the far more expensive Kriega bags in function and construction.
Rewatching this, the smaller width of the straps shouldn’t be a worry. We used to buy webbing that sized and tie desks, tabletops etc to the walls of our delivery truck when I was a systems furniture installer. NEVER had a strap that size break. Thousands of pounds being held against the wall in city and interstate driving
Hello Ron, you were correct, no issues after 10K miles of being on the bike. It was just ME worrying as I usually see thicker straps. They show no signs of wear. - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding I have been living with the Rhinowalk 40-60L tail bag for a few months now Frank and can report that it is definitely not waterproof. I am pretty much using it as an expandable soft topbox and it stays permanently attached to the rear rack on my BMW. The zippers appear to be unsealed and water does get inside the bag. Having said that I am still happy with the bag for how I am currently using it, but for travelling you would definitely need to use the rain cover or a waterproof bag inside of it to keep things dry.
Hello, I pack my clothes in a 25L Nelson Rigg bag. I have used a larger bag, but that just allows me to overpack! Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
