I used to watch these when they first aired back in the '70s. For kids just watching Rhoda in the 21st century, it must be a fascinating adventure; in many respects.
Can't imagine kids.or young adults liking it js Many are so use to fast-paced things to watch . When I've watched these shows with some of my adult kids they are fascinated & like.the shows. But they wouldn't , on their own watch another show or more. They're all different, like us ! : )
@@johntsopanarias it just was in fashion those days. It wasn't uncommon to see that in the 70's it's one fashion that hasn't circled back around again.
In an interview Valerie mentioned has she didn’t want to leave Mary Tyler Moore show, even for her own spin-off. Rhoda is the most successful spin off of a major television show in TV history
Rhoda was a hit. But not as big a hit as Laverne and Shirley was from Happy Days or The Jefferson's from All in the Family. I think L&S even did better in the ratings than Mary Tyler Moore I know it was.the #1 show for at least 2 consecutive seasons
I've seen this episode many times these past years but this time something triggered hearing that fat slob client complement Rhodas legs and then when she told him she wasn't interested he says, "Eh they ain't that great anyway". As a retired woman who started a career in the mid 70s this is exactly how it was for us young gals. I was in the graphic arts and advertising biz and it was always understood amongst peer women that this behavior "came with the territory" in those days, to varying levels. We learned to put the comments and "accidental" touching off with a smile and a joke and move on - always trying not to hurt the bosses ego, or upper manager's feelings. We were raised to be good natured and polite by our mothers who usually had little to no experience with this bull crap behavior in a work environment. As my level of job positions increased the respect also increased and I experienced less and less of this sort of harassment. Thank god my grown daughter doesn't have to go through this nonsense in order to merely perform her job.
Interesting I was just skipping around some conservative political videos and a lot of them are talking about how women should be stay at home mothers only and women in the workplace ruined the nuclear family and basically the world, women don’t belong in businesses alongside men, and when men act inappropriately in the office toward women it’s the fault of women. It’s currently trendy in right wing channels to hear this resurrected theme and a lot of times the conservatives making the case are YOUNG WOMEN. Life is very strange in MAGA America.
Rhoda was like the best underrated show of the 70s. It was always so good. I always liked it more than Mary's show, which had a few great characters but there were some elements of it that were not convincing. People say that Rhoda and Joe marrying was a mistake but it was everything but that. It was just a plot point - she had to try marriage in order to get back to doing what she did best...being single. We had to wait 22 years - 1978 to 2000 - before we found out that Rhoda did re-marry not long after her divorce, and had a daughter ("Mary and Rhoda" TV movie.)
I've been binge watching these Rhoda episodes in honor of Valerie Harper. I know a lot of folks have very strong feelings and opinions about the whole Rhoda and Joe relationship. i've heard literally every possible side you can imagine. I am not going to say where I stand on a fictional show one way or the other. What I WILL say is that it was well written and realistic and of course very well acted, that is, it reminded me of relationships from life, for both good and band and that is worth a lot as far as I am concerned.
Those plates! I'm a sucker for that sort of comedy. She does it so well too! I typed the above before seeing what happened next. Valerie Harper absolutely rocks in this episode.
I remember when I saw Rhoda on a TV interview. She said the writers thought that Rhoda was more funny. She was funnier that she was single than when she married. I always though that wasn't true.
Not all of us librarians are dowdy. One man told me that I should be flattered after I objected to his squeezing my behind. I stopped wearing skirts for a while after one man was lying on his back looking up mine.
Rhoda definitely should not be face-to-facing with customers. These are human emotions that are used to manipulate people. All salespeople are good-looking and charming, male or female. I'm not saying that a person should act on anything, you just say "I'm flattered, thank you" and whip open your sketches and get down to business.
I worked in pharmaceutical sales in the 90s and this is why the companies started to replace men with medical knowledge with young blonde women with degrees in physical ed. and liberal arts.
Having been in healthcare for many years I know the 90s were a terrible time for Medical Training for medical students and residents Corporate America took over everything and ruined Healthcare. And then you had these bimbos coming in they do nothing about anything except for how to smile and bat their eyelashes. These days providers are merely data entry clerks for the system so that patients can be charged as much as possible. Sad State of Affairs
I hired a great looking gal at my Service Station that wanted to learn the Automotive business. I started Her at the pumps where about 75% of Our sales are made. The first day She showed up for work wearing hot pants and thigh high leather boots, She caused a four car accident in front of My Shop. I told Her to wear jeans from now on, She refused, so I had to let Her go. Like Rhoda, I wanted my success to be because of good service, not sex.
No chemistry between Harper and Groh, you kidding?? They seem warm and fuzzy together to me!! As for why Rhoda would fall for Joe....Rhoda's a strong personality but has a few hangups, bit stressy, prone to comfort eating like her sister. Joe seems to have no hangups and cools her down by being straightforward about things, I know it's just a comedy, so who cares....but it's totally feasible to me how they work together.
Size 13 and size 9..... unheard of nowadays on TV. 00 or 0, yes.. maybe a size 2! Crazy standards these days and everybody has their own plastic surgeon... 😮
@@MrMenefrego1 okay, you're an idiot then. Value of $85.50 from 1975 to 2021 $85.50 in 1975 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $439.56 today, Just use an inflation calculator.
"Until one year ago my social life consistent of grading high school english papers. The only romance that I had was a few dates with a biology teacher that never got the smell of frog off his hands." So Myrna is Our Miss Brooks?
I LIke watching Rhonda reruns. The reason they ended up getting divorce. 1. She slept with him on the first date. 2. She ask him to get married. He told her he didn't get married. 3. She told him if he didn't married her she was going to moved back to mlk. That why they broke up
I can never get over why people weird out so much about these two, esp because it's all fictional. I think people relate to it on a personal level subconsciously and that's why it hits home for them so much. The writers changed their relationship because they thought Rhoda lost her edge when she was happier and she was happier when she was married. Neither David Groh nor Valerie Harper wanted their characters to divorce, and they were great friends - and I think crushing on each other - IRL.
If you recall she did not sleep with him on the first date. She had every right to stand up for what she wanted and if that wasn't fine with him he should have never married her. That's on him
