Rhoda Scott - Summertime 

I saw this lady play life in the 70 's , she signed my records , she is not only a lovely woman but one of the greatest hammond artists on the earth , together with Barbara , I hope I still can see and ear her again in mine and her lifetime , so many great artists on the Hammond are already dissapeared , so few are left over ..so few indeed ar interested to learn this mighty instrument , I am one of the last leftovers that restores these beautiful beasts .. cia Rhoda , ciao , love you , Ben

I worked for Hammond years ago, setting up the instruments anywhere from recording studios to jazz clubs. Of course I had the check the instruments after setup. This was the best job I ever had... Played for hours under guise of quality check.

She has played at the Hammond Club in the Netherlands in 2006. It was a great honor to have her perform. How she gets the special sound of this song Summertime (and the other songs on the Ballads elpees) is that the lower rotor of the leslie is disconnected so that it is standing still. Another fact is that she indeed plays the bass pedal with her feet but on the stock B3 organs (without sustain on the pedals) she also plays the basslines with her left hand to gets the pedal legato that way.

Summertime☀️ - everybody heard this wonderful song written by Gershwin but no one has ever played it so emotional and spiritual like her 🎼 - you play it so sweet and you are so sweet to look at, Rhoda ! 😍

She is such an artist!!! I attended one of her concerts in France some time ago. A revelation! Luckily seated close to the stage, I was able to watch her playing the pedals with her feet. I remember watching the people around me all sitting still, while I was completely taken up by the rythm. How come one can watch and listen without moving along ;-)) I had a wonderful time ...

Have been knowing this recording for 40 years. Still have the LP bought by my parents somewhere in the 70 's. Saw her perfoming in Ghent, my hometow in this period. Her musical influence on me (and millions of others) is eternal.

I first heard of Rhoda Scott a few weeks ago. I knew and loved Shirley Scott's music from the late 60's. Rhoda is very beautiful and soulful. I believe that's the good news about getting older. New things will be reaveald. That was some beautiful organ playing I Guarantee 🎼🎼🎼🎼📻🎵🎵

Joseph Gillette.... She came to the Key Club also in Newark.. Hiked up her dress and danced on the bass pedals.... What a show... And what a nice Lady....we were the "house band" at the time....so guess who's "B" was on stage! ;)

Really can't compare organists. It's apples and oranges. Rhoda is great in anyone's book. Great work of the Leslie and Bass pedals. Such a great treasure and a great song. A classic.

My parents are from Ukraine, I'll have to has my Mother if she is familiar with the tune. Thanks for the informative vid, and exposing me to another great Hammond player!

J'écoute Rhoda Scott depuis 1969.... J'ai fait le tour des organistes sur Hammond; il n'y a strictement personne qui joue de cette façon incroyable avec un pareil feeling. Certains voudraient classer sa musique en jazz ou pas jazz etc. C'est impossible : c'est l'orgue Hammond joué par Rhoda, un style unique et irremplaçable.
