A difficult question. There is no clear answer. 🙂 Every island is different and unique. What one person likes, another person doesn't like. Choose with your heart. 💙
My husband and I love anything greece , music , people and the culture. Can you please recommend islands that have the most tavernas with live greek music during the summer ? We are looking to visit 3 islands that are relatively close to each other with ferry or plane. Thank you. Looking for more authentic than touristy places.
Many tavernas with live music are just theatre for tourists in the big resorts, which has nothing to do with the authenticity of the island. One usually excludes the other. 😉 For visiting 3 islands at the same time, many options come into consideration: the Ionian Islands, the Sporades, the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, ... It's up to you if you want quiet or fun. 🤔
My partner and I just came back from Kolymbia in Rhodes. It was our first time in Greece but it won't be the last. We're middle aged and it was quiet enough for us but with plenty to do still and good bus routes to both Rhodes itself and Lindos. We've fallen in love with Greece and would like to retire there. One question, what's with all the umbrella shops in Rhodes town? We don't seem to have any over here in the UK and it's a lot rainier than Greece!
Just to add, we're going to the USA next year to see friends but in 2025 we'll be returning to Greece. Looking at Kefalonia, maybe Sami as it looks similar to Kolymbia, small but enough to do.
@@DJGG8205 Having visited both Rhodes and Kefalonia, I would put Rhodes first. The problem with Kefalonia is that almost all its ancient sites were devastated by earthquake, aside from one castle, and although there are some lovely places to visit it can't compete with the larger islands for scale and grandeur. Most of the English ex pats who settle there seem to give up and go back to the UK after a few years.
