The Ocean Beach Funfair at Rhyl was demolished including the Water chute and the Jetsream Coaster. The rest of the rides went elsewhere, including the Festival Gardens at Ffrith. Sign our petition at: petitions.pm.gov.uk/seasidetowns
Absolutely Heartbreaking. My Childhood Holidays in Towyn, were the Happiest times in my life. Spent Many, many joyful hours on the Fairground. This brought back so many Happy Memories, and Tears to my eyes.
back in the 70's early 80's Rhyl was very popular. Had some great times as a kid. Very sad and criminal that it has got into the state it is today. has to be down to bad planning.
Used to live in Rhyl had a guest house on west parade around 1987 rhyl is and was very run down as was the fun fair it needed renovating or pulling down and rebuilding. Bloody council used to charge enough rates think they could have done something nice with the fair after demolition what a disgrace. The whole town needs seing to to boost tourist we left because there was n o investment the place does not bring back any fond memories for us.
why did they get rid of the fair as it was one of the main attractions all seaside areas needs the fair they should build a new modern one to bring back all its tourists it once had
very sad i had some of the happiest times of my life on holiday here from 1977-1983, ive heard over the years its had a lot of drug and crime in the town, but it used to be awesome as an 8 year old kid!
They demolished it in 2007, put people out of work.............. Its now 2014 and its still a empty boarded up site, the signs have been taken down and replaced with for sale signs and enquiry signs 😕 they should at least clear the site and use it for something? Car park? Market? Or seasonal fair? Total eye sore
(Cynically) - don't worry I am sure there are major plans in the pipeline to flog the land off to private developers to build million pound apartments for foreign millionaires who only intend to pop into the country now and again for the odd weekend of shopping. Like in so many other places all over the country,
because no one went... i went a few months before it closed and had a great time.... such a shame :( now you have to travel a mile down the road to the other fun fair :(
As it became apparent that trade was in decline property owners changed over to permanent bed sits attracting the overflow from the inner cities, Clwyd and Alan didn't help either by advertising accommodation in Strangeways and Walton, the rest is history.
I can't believe that the fun fair has been taken down. I can remember using the little rides in the fair when I was little. We would also go to Ryl to eat the dougnuts, they were lovely dougnuts. We use to have them next to the entrance of the fun fair. What's going to happen to the land?
To me Rhyl is still good because I wasn’t around when ocean beach existed so I’m used to the new Rhyl and I really love it but we have different opinions sad to see your childhood go.
I have great memories of Rhyl as a child. I used to love the fun fair and the arcade but lets all be honest it was not going to last forever. With more people/familes choosing to cut back on holidays (even the cheap caravan holidays) seaside towns are bound to lose out. I think whats happened at Rhyl is just a reflection of the economic downturn in general.
