I REALLY love this channel. What’s crazy is for two years after I got out of the Army I lived in Lehi (wasn’t from Utah), and I absolutely hated it there lol . BUT, I was going to Game Grid before it was actually called Game Grid. I forget the original name but I’ve lived in many places and the people that worked there and the environment at Game Grid was HANDS DOWN the best shop I’ve EVER been to. Like no joke. The people that worked there were so dope and friendly, I’m pretty sure Griffin from your channel was there too. I can’t remember a face, but there were also two brothers (I believe one was Jordan) and they really made the lgs experience like a home for all players. I w was as still relatively new to the game of Magic, probably 2-3 years into playing and they were always so honest about cards I was looking to pick up and were the opposite of my current lgs’s which seem pretty predatory to new players. Anyway, sorry for being wordy but I wanted to share that story. In case any locals are thinking about making this your lgs, DO IT. These guys are awesome and some people you’d be lucky to have as a playgroup. Take care and stay safe all and keep pumping out the great content!!
Some other cards I feel should be mentioned for rhys (both older and newer than this video): Mimic vat: This card seems strange to include, but it not only doubles as a reanimator prevention against opponents, but due to the way delayed triggers work, if you're able to activate Rhys's doubling ability, the Doubled token DOESN'T GO AWAY. this allows you to build up an insane stack of copied creatures if played right. It is also a nice way of recursion that can turn non-legend creatures into tokens, and thus benefit from many, many things. This card has EXTREME VERSATILITY, allowing Rhys to adapt to strategies on the go, being able to access creatures outside of the colors. Remember, when its blown up, the creature DOES NOT go back into the graveyard. and yes, it affects things that become creatures and get blown up, like land creatures. do with this as you will. Aura shards: You're playing a token deck in Green/white. This allows you to absolutely lock down an artifact or enchantment deck, and kill mana rocks on sight. Mondrak, Glory Dominus: 40 dollars of token doubling goodness, on legs. It comes with built in protection, and is decently strong at 4/4 to boot. Helm of the Host: Have tons of good legendary creatures, but can't duplicate them? put this on them, and the legend rule gets taken off the token copy, meaning they're free game. the token has haste too, meaning that its up and running right away! possibilities are endless! Yenna, Redtooth Regent: This lady is nuts. So you have a doubling season/parallel lives out, and get her out. for 2 mana, you can double your doublers. and since they're tokens, you get 2 doublers from the double, meaning 3 doubling seasons/parallel lives. this is GAME ENDING amounts of token generation. Not to mention, she can double up on aura shards, Enchantments that you might have copied with Mimic vat, Enchantment creatures, and such. just make sure they're the only copy on the field before you do so, or else it won't work. Nacatl War-Pride: If you're facing a token deck, this is an excellent way to break through, regardless of the amount of creatures you have. attack once, and it replicates itself equal to THEIR creatures, and those copies must be blocked! Add in a doubler, and thats ensured damage, for they won't have enough to block with! Save rhys, and double the copies, and you'll be able to save the rhys copies after combat, which is just straight up insane. Securitron Squadron/Galadhrim Brigade: Squad is Replicate on legs. While Securitron squadron has a more expensive squad cost, universal +1/+1 buffs to tokens is much better in a tokenball, while Galadhrim Brigade focuses more on elves. Remember, The copies come in as tokens, so needless to say, you can exploit this for big creatures. Mirror Box: want to make copies of copies of legendary creatures? look no more. a good addition alongside Helm of the host to get around the pesky Legend rule!
In the midst of revamping my Rhys deck. Thanks for the great ideas!! Also, one of my favorite cards to throw in is Throne of the God-Pharoh. It's especially fun to play it post combat and watch everyone's face when they realize they're losing so much life
If you have Doubling Season in play, you can ultimate Elspeth, Sun's Champion when she enters the battlefield. She would enter the battlefield with 8 loyalty counters :)
Got to play a variation I built of this at my LGS that is about 13 short of this exact deck (Budget and already own good synergies to replace ) and it was the best I have ever done with Rhys. Did so well I was the target almost the entire game. Great deck! Thanks so much!!!
Great Video! Only slight changes I would have made would be to have Eternal Witness in a "recursion" category as it isn't really card advantage. (I do love the Ohran Frostfang, a great inclusion). Only other thing I would change would be to swap out Collective Unconscious for Shamanic Revelation Overall amazing video, and the progress being made since the start of the channel is insane! Can't wait for the next Duel of the Peaks!
This is a solid Rhys deck, but it's also perfect for my Unnatural Growth I've been thinking of moving from my Sisay deck. Prosperous Innkeeper is also a solid card for this because you'll just keep gaining life, which is why I'd probably also run Aetherflux Reservoir, for those times you double a crap ton of tokens. Helm of the Host is a solid card to put on some ETB creatures, Rhys himself, or even Elesh Norn to keep anything from Blocking if you can't pull Merri. Basically, this deck seems super flexible with adding new things, and I can't wait to mess around with it!
this is a great list for rhys, as i've been meaning to make a deck for him for a while, but one thing i noticed is the inclusion of guardian project. rhys decks make a LOT of tokens, and the trigger for guardian project to draw only counts nontoken creatures that enter, so it wouldn't really get as much value as it can in other decks imo
Its kinda insane how big the prices are on most of these now. Ohran Frostfang, Guardian Project come to mind, definitely need a SUBSTANTIAL reprint, not some "List" bs or a "Secret Lair" (Thats getting very old fast). Side note WIZARDS REPRINT LIGHTNING GREAVES lmao this card is up to 10 fucking dollars now. All because they havent had it in a commander deck since 2020. Of course, it will be in Commander Masters most likely. Hoping to see a Mirri reprint finally, its been 6 years now
I know this video is a few years old, but at a pre-release my pool had Yenna, Redtooth Regent, Primal Vigor, Parallel Lives, and Dawn of Hope (among a few others). Never had all enchantments out, but used Yenna to copy Primal Vigor, so three Primals out made Dawn of Hope make 8 1/1 soldiers on each activation. Considering picking up a few of the final extra token enchantments, namely doubling season or anointed procession, then include some enchantment tutors. Curious, why no protection like lightning greaves?
I run Rhys with a mana cure of 3 with only 4 cards with a mana cast higher than 3. Day of Judgment cvc 4, Vedalken Orrey cvc 4, Seedborn Muse cvc 5, craterhoof behemoth cvc 8. And only 4 non elf creature in the deck. 2 of the 4 are noted before and an ambush viper for block trick and wirewood symbiote for mana and token ramp.
