Joumana is a vinyl curator and DJ based in Glasgow. Her musical style is influenced by her Egyptian heritage and various other cultures and genres, combining funk, disco, jazz, Arabic, and African pop. She shares her passion for music through her role as a host on Radio Buena Vida alongside Hiba, as well as her own show on Subcity Radio. Her mixes span a variety of genres, but one thing remains consistent throughout - they are undeniably groove-inducing, making it impossible to resist the urge to move and shake.
"My selection for this mix features African artists and labels from all around the continent and their collaborations with foreign artists. The music featured is mostly 80's funk and disco, with some more modern gems like Vieux Farka Toure, Shams Dinn, Glenn Underground, and more. My vision for this was to not only celebrate African music but also associate North African sounds with Africa rather than the Middle East.
