The Phantom is a truelly iconic aircraft. I'd forgotten that it was still in service with the Hellenic AF. Brings back great memories of the F-4 at Leuchars AFB
I saw the RAF F-4s flying in the 80s and 90s, at Mildenhall, Alconbury and Lakenheath. The USAFE had a missing man Phantom display team as well. They were great times for sure, glad I was there to see this awesome jet put through it's paces. I know what you mean about memories of this great aircraft, it sure took the airshow scene by storm with it's fab flying displays. 👍😎 Forever remembered!
Well James you never know they will be in service with Greece until 2027 the crews where telling us on Sunday so I am sure they will be back to Fairford in the future 😀👍
@@264flight That is a superb shot of the Phantom taking off right at the end of the video, very much like I remember seeing it flying at the Mildenhall airshow in the 80s. A great 20th century cold war jet, great to see it flying at Fairford! 👍❤
Thanks Matt I almost missed it as did a lot who attended on Monday. It departed about 1)7:25 after we had been told there would be no more departures. Good job I had a tip off as we stood in the car park 😀👍
@@264flight hi Ah ok, the RAF still had phantoms at that point, they probably weren’t ex-navy either then! Reason I asked was because I went to school with a lad who’s dad was a pilot in the Greek airforce and he flew Corsairs, that was late 80s!
Hello from me too! The Hellenic F-4s are the E variant upgraded in the early 2000s and their official designation is ''F-4E AUP''. Finally they are equipped with the J79-17-E engine from General Electric of course. I am currently working for the HAF as part of my internship, in the lair of this beast of an aircraft!
A little ridiculous that anoraks were locked up in Greece for taking photos of its secret airforce yet they send them over here for everyone to get really good closeup photos & videos! 😂. Hey ho. Very nice to see them here
