There's a recording from a b17 pilot seeing one for the first time, also jet engines were a thing before this plane so it wasn't like seeing an alien spaceship would be to us, still terrifying and shocking to see though, imagine if our allies were working on some secret engine and the russians pulled up with it working and fitted to something powerful.

@@ObviousTroll69-i6k the Mosquito was a great aeroplane. The Meteor wasn't. It was chronically unreliable and endowed with extremely dangerous handling characteristics. It killed an awful lot of its pilots. The Me-262 was a vastly superior aeroplane - just as the Bf-109E was a superior fighter to the Mk1/Mk2 Spitfire (and that's coming from John Romain, who knows both aeroplanes very well).

Nothing. Still out of oil, out of ammo, bombed to hell, bankrupt, fronts on all sides, USSR moving in, US moving in. They would have shot down a few more bombers. Not the 1000 that visited Germany every night. Battleships all sunk, cruisers sunk, U-Boats gone and hunted. Germany was finished before they started. They didn't have the ressources for such a conflict. Once they met some real resistance, successes stopped quickly and they got bogged down and pushed back when fuel, ammo and bodies ran out.

Very little difference would have been made, not because of the capabilities of the aircraft, but because the leadership of the nation was tactically deficient. The idiot in charge ordered the 262's to be used as bombers, while starving resources from the Arado.

You say that, but then the Gloucester Meteor and De Havilland Vampire first flew in 1943 with the P-59 just a year earlier in 1942. If the war had gone on longer they could have countered the Me 262 or any German Jet for that matter. Also to add to that the P-80 Shooting Star was deployed to Italy in 1944 and could have been sent to combat the Me 262s. In theory we could have had the first jet vs jet dogfight in WW2 if things had been diffrent.

If germany had the natural resources comparable to a continental countries like the USSR and USA populations of people and vast oil, metals, bomb proof manufacturing and factories they would have won the war. Also, why Japan couldn't match the production might of the USA. History repeats itself because Humans fail to study and learn from it. Here we are today and China's production of the 4 M's Manpower, Manufacturing, Munitions, and Money surpass the USA. The USA cannot sustain a six week projected war with China today or tomorrow due to its population and industrial might currently.

The British invented the jet engine.
