Many memories. My fave Ribble 1775 but only because I used to ride this type all the time in my youth. Later would frequent the SELNEC Whitefield service, nostalgia, nostalgia.
I didn't live far from Hawthorn Rd depot. Used to often watch the buses come & go there. The services were all Ribble where I lived which accounts for my affecton for them
Had childhood holidays in Morecambe late70/ early 80s , remember LCC open top Atlanteans Heysham Village - Happy mount Park , Ribble buses at Euston rd bus stn , when we arrived by SBG buses usually , Western Leopards & Pennines , seem to recall VR’s and RELH ‘s and the odd Atlantean , LCC did most of the local routes, but for some reason a Ribble service to Peel Avenue which I presume was a town service comes to mind.
I'm a Londoner but mother came from Liverpool (never forgave her #Evertonian). We spent many a holiday 'oop' North and can recall in the late 50s going on a day trip to Morecambe. Always presumed it was on a Ribble bus but thinking about it, was probably via coach. It goes into my top ten of worst days ever; rained from the get go and then some. Father was the tightest wad in the universe, and beyond, as spending [sic] an afternoon under a shelter on the front at Morecambe staring out at the gloom, has left me mentally scarred... Sorry to drift off topic but remember getting the 321[?] from Liverpool - Ormskirk/Preston a few times to visit an aunt who lived in Aughton Green/Park. I think it rained then too 😳
I have had a few rainy days at Morecambe too. Mostly on the Ribble running days. Good to hear that wet windy weather is very accurate for the Rvpt running days lol
