Why an electric grill? The owner feels that propane/charcoal is too "manly". Actually, this CharBroil Patio Bistro received some pretty good reviews, and does work indeed! Compared to a gas grill, you don't get the heat, nor the recovery. It takes longer. But as a result, it's pretty hard to overcook stuff, so things end up coming out nice and juicy.
These ribs and peppers were absolutely no exception. None of us could even TRY to stop eating until everything was gone.
Ages ago I had a video with this same grill, and RU-vidr daphotoguy7689 had some choice words for me, but also gave some very constructive criticism. You can check him out at: / daphotoguy7689

I have the same grill and it's great. I live in an apartment where you can't have open flames and this does the job! We cook on it all the time and it gets 500 degrees on high so you can get the heat you need out of it for real grilling. I was skeptical when I bought it but it's turned out to be fantastic for 90 dollars (open box) on amazon.

It actually is quite good, I'm really surprised. I'd never buy one as I can have a real barbecue, but it actually does work. The only problem is it takes a long time to get up to temperature, and a long time to recover once opening the lid. That's of course to be expected by something that uses 120 volts; there's only so much power you can push through a wire.

It has its place and purpose. For me, if a gas grill or charcoal grill is permitted to be used, it should.

There is a video on RU-vid if you search for patio bistro + lava rocks. The man in that video says It helps keep the heat if you open the lid. I got this grill just so I don't have to worry about gas or charcoal.
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 6 лет назад
I'm sure that would probably work. If, for whatever reason, you needed to turn the heat down though, those rocks are going to hold that heat pretty good, so you'd have to leave the lid open, or find a way to prop it open a bit.

I wish you had shown the cleaning process after you use it. I would be interested in that.
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 6 лет назад
The owner of this grill uses a large washbucket, puts in soap and water, and lets it soak for an hour, then uses a nylon bristle brush to scrub it. Me, I'd use a real wire bristle BBQ brush. The porcelain coating burns off the first time you use it, so there's nothing to worry about scraping off.

How does the flavor compare to other bbq's? I'm thinking about buying one of these myself, but I'm weary on the ability of the device to create food that actually tastes like it's bbq food. :)

It's an electric grill. It's never going to be the same as a real grill. If this is all you can use (due to a condo or apartment or something) it's certainly better than nothing, otherwise get a real grill.

I dont think you quite understand what low and slow means. LOW temp, like 225 and SLOW cooking. Those ribs would normally take about 6 hours with low and slow and wouldn't have char marks. But if they good, then enjoy.

The black grate is in there wrong. The lines should run front to back not side to side. Atleast that’s how mine is, there is a cutout on the grate to the front, it only fits in one way.

@jaykay18
@jaykay18 8 лет назад
Thanks! The ribs cooked until they were "done". Sorry, I don't have a time frame, maybe 8 minutes each side, then another 5 each side. I'm guessing. You'll kinda know when they're done. In fact, I'm going up there today and we're making the same recipe ribs again! The owner of this grill cleans it in a not-so-conventional manner. She has a big plastic tub she fills with water from the hose, adds soap, and lets it sit for an hour. Then she has a nylon scrub brush she uses. Personally, I'd use a plain old barbecue brush. For my propane grill, I have a really big dual-head brush, it's called something like Monster Grill "Bull" brush. Google it. Buy it. You won't be sorry. In fact I'll have a video about it in a few weeks!

@jaykay18
@jaykay18 3 года назад
Well I recorded this video 5 years ago, so tough for me to remember. I don't own it either, it's a family member's. As for times, you should never rely on time for any cooking method. Even bake something in the oven, they tell you at 350° for 30 minute and yours comes out not done enough, or worse yet, burnt? That's a matter of you just cooking. Some people like their ribs a little more well done, or a little less well done. Your best method would be an instant-read thermometer. As for what temperature to set the grill to, remember, this is an electric grill, so it's SLOW. When you open the lid, you lose a lot of heat, and it takes a while to come back up to temperature. So my recommendation, which is what I generally do at home on my gas grill, is to set it to high and not worry about it. Certain recipes will dictate turning it down, and certain things I make I like to cook "low and slow", so in those cases, I'll turn the grill down. As with any new cooking appliance, the first few times you use it will always be experimental, but after a few uses, you'll get the hang of it and be producing good eats, time after time.

@@jaykay18 Thanks Jay! All great points, and, I'll give it a shot. I cooked some Zucchini on it already came out great, but, you are right. I did lose heat when I opened to flip. I'm prepping a "test" burger now, and, will see how it turns-out.
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 3 года назад
@@ColeYounger16 Sure, no problem! If there's one thing I learned in the last 15 years grilling, never overcook stuff. I also give the "5° rule", meaning if a meat is to cook to 160°, cook it to about 155°. Always let the meat rest for 5 minutes after coming off the grill. It will gain the extra 5 degrees on its own and finish itself. This will give you the juiciest meats, and I don't know who doesn't like that!

When you cook on that grill did you get the charcoal taste from like a charcoal grill? Also did the wood chips help as well?
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 5 лет назад
This isn't my grill. I have a gas grill, always have. I've never owned a charcoal grill, so I can't really comment on the "charcoal grill taste". The wood chips certainly didn't hurt any, in fact they did help some, but if you're really looking for smoky taste, get a smoker.

I have the largest grill electric grill made by DeLonghi (Perfecto). Does an excellent job. It will cook anything. From steaks to dogs. Of course being electric, it takes a bit longer. But for winter time grilling, who cares!
@jaykay18

hows this holding up? hows the maintenance and cleaning.
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 6 лет назад
It's not mine, but from what I hear from the owner, it's working as great as day 1. There's really no maintenance to do, maybe just tighten all the screws that hold it together every once in a while. Cleaning, well, it's a grill. No grill in the entire world will look like it does fresh out of the box once it's cooked on. There's some burnt-on stuff as to be expected.

Some places, like apartments, will not allow anything with an open flame, but will allow an electric barbecue. If that's all you can have, then it would have to be good enough. The owner of this house (not myself) considers propane to be too "manly", which makes it bad.
