Wow, a lot of wrestling legends are asked about Eddie Mansfield lately from Kevin Kelly to Ric Flair. I know Cornette HATED Mansfield since Jim is the type to protect the business like its own kid.
@@bustersales6921 the cat's out of the bag... been out of the bag for decades. Cornette doesn't actually fault anyone for "exposing the business" on podcasts or shoot interviews. If they do it in the ring he often takes issue with it. He's never done that At the time Mansfield did what he did kayfabe was still very much alive
@@bustersales6921 cornette is a hypocrite in so many ways he's just so good at talking he can convice anyone who lacks critical thinking or their own opinions
Years before that TV exposé I saw a wrestler miss a drop kick . The other wrestler thought about it for three seconds, then fell as if it had connected. I knew right then pro wrestling wasn’t quite on the level. I was maybe 7 or 8. I chose to “ Suspend Disbelief “ and remained a big fan ...!
I've always said if you're going to botch something, botch it well. Fans will believe a failed offensive maneuver if it looks like it missed legitimately
I saw it as a kid too. I too also suspended disbelief but suspending disbelief was not possible when thirty year old men are acting like dogs, snakes, and chickens. I was done with wrestling until ECW came along.
Wrestlers should say he was right; maybe many of them would still be alive. He was trying to get a better deal for the everyday worker. He was trying to get medical insurance, retirement benefits, and more money. Funny how short-=sighted people are.
I remember when Eddie did that. I didn't know who he was at the time. When I first got into wrestling (around 1982 or 83) I thought it was real. Then I heard some static about it being fake. And when I saw the Eddie special my childhood was ruined. Lol....
The business could have used better discretion with kayfabe. Kayfabing everybody all of the time just insults the intellgience of people in the media and higher ups in TV, athletic commissions, etc. Making enemies out of people that would be far more beneficial to be fiends with instead. But it still would have been to their benefit to maintain that healthy semblance of kayfabe. It's what is hurting the business today. Everybody knows it's bullshit, but to make matters worse the workers let us know it's bullshit throughout a show.
it really didnt matter if it was fake after his expose. Ppl still kept coming for the theatric show. And thats what it was at the end of the day. Just a violent drama form.
Look The Wrestling Business is NO JOKE I trained for ten months and I thought I knew my Shit LOL LOL LOL LOL no i didn't i got my ass kicked LOL so i know how tough it is but once I got the hang of it i was ok but Man if u can't Breathe u can't work u GOT TO BE IN SHAPE if it a work or not u can't run out of gas in the ring u all u young guys stay in great shape at all times and try to rest your body as much as u can like Ric Flair said it's a tough business
I didn't hear anything regarding Mr T but I do know that wwf did settle with Stossell for the injuries he sustained which was put in magazines that lead to Shultz being fired
Eddie Mansfield exposing the secrets to the business, would be like an initiate exposing the secrets of freemasonry. You're turning your back on your brotherhood. Now that wrestling is exposed the art of is lost. People know too much therefore they have a hard time just enjoying the match everyone wants to review every aspect of the business. The wrestling industry is at an all time low in terms of popularity and viewership.
I think Eddie went to the news bc the treatment of talent (which he's not wrong. Independent contractors? Really?) & John Stossel did what John Stossel does when it comes to wrestling. He hated Vince not so much wrestling but in order to screw w/Vince he had to screw w/wrestling
I’ve never bought the story he tells about how he did it for the boys. He was angry because he’d gotten himself blackballed in the business because every territory he worked in he’d constantly complain about his booking or his pay and often times quit because of it. Terry Funk told him before he went on 20/20 that he’d never get work again. Only after that did he go on 20/20 and suddenly say it was all for the boys. Id love to see how much he was paying his roster when he had his promotion and if he gave them health care. Id bet he didnt. He loves to take credit for making everything better as if people weren’t working 300 days a year for the next 10+ years after his thing anyways. Id have zero problem with the dude being on the show if he’d just own up to why he did it instead of trying to pretend it was all to help the boys.
@@Matt-cr4vv We just disagree then. His issue w/ NWA was more of an Ole Anderson issue. Ole & another guy wanted 20% of his 💰 he said "no" which ended his bookings w/ the NWA. This was also stated by Dr. D. Eddy was still getting bookings in TX before he did 20/20. And it's not like he was wrong, it just didn't work. Ppl just lacked balls. Not to mention John Stossel has a reputation of being dubious. This wouldn't be the first time he interviewed someone for one reason while the interviewee is there for another.
@@jims.6393 I thought you were referring to when Vince was looking to avoid paying athletic commission costs and said wrestling is not a sport but entertainment.
