Why are you playing normally accented eighth notes on the hi-hat? That's obviously not how it's done. Look up the drum cover by DD DRUMS for an accurate cover of Jimmy Chamberlin's very subtle hi-hat work.

He's not doing the most memorable part though which is the accent pattern on the high hat. He's playing it straight and it sounds weird.

The snare hits every second of the song. It sometimes hits faster, but always hits on that one second mark throughout the whole song after the beginning of the drums. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I find it fascinating, if I'm correct.

the tempo of the song is 130 BPM so it can’t be exactly every second but very close yeah

1979??? 2009 maybe. Regardless of the year you have such talent. Ignited my long lost love for the drums. Wanted to be Denis Wilson when I was younger. This will be my next adventure.

A two bar groove....the and of 1, the and of 2 both bars, but add in the second bar the and of 4.

not playing the groove properly....its not straight, you're playing the easier way. listen to it again and hear where the accents are on the hi hats

this is great but unfortunately you're playing the groove wrong. it's a "left brain" groove. listen again to chamberlains accents on the hi hats, he doesn't play it straight, there are very specific accents on the hi hat that he does and it starts from the tip. It looks something like this tip, Flat, tip, Flat, tip, tip, tip, tip, Flat, tip, tip, Flat, tip, tip, tip, Flat. (repeat). other than that smooth playing!

@@lyshak sounds like that’s part of the record. He’s playing it straight through, you can tell by the way the stick hits. No wrong way - just thought I’d point it out for a tougher challenge. Music is all interpretation anyway. Plus he could easily have post mixed this so what you’re hearing might not even be the exact mic hits. It sounds too clean to be a full replication of the playing, this was defs post mixed.
