We were walking the Nakasendo way, this past may. Saw them planting the rice fields with little specialized tractors. TFS

Our local Seiyu was out of rice for about a month. Lucky that my in laws live in the farm area of Nagano, they send us free veggies, fruit, and this time rice.

I bet that Yanmar machine costs a pretty penny. During my time in Japan I encountered way too many old folks with bend over posture from harvesting the rice by hand thru the decades.

that is why 95% of farmers here in the red because of all the expenses.

Tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if they rent it for, say, a day or a week during the harvest season, or perhaps own it as part of a co-operative along with other farmers in the local area, instead of owning it outright (I may be wrong on this though)

@@alexjenkins1079 yes, actually you can rent all your equipments through JA, in fact all you have to do is only to grow and harvest if you sign with JA, and your farming business is completely under control of JA however. or do everything by youeself in Japan.
