It would be very ironic if a Rice Krispies record was so minty and so clean that it didn't actually have any snap, crackle, or pop when listening to it. ;)

I remember having this as a kid in the early 80s but I don't know what ever happened to it. I wish I could find it.

in the early 70's when i was around 8yrs old, i used to buy the cereals that had the vinyl records. Once i bought the Raising Brand cereal which i didn't like just to get the Jackson Five ABC record. My mom got mad at me cause i wouldn't eat them and that I only got it for the record.

This record player brings back memories of the early 60's in my elementary school class room record player, the teacher played a record a long with a film strip projector and the record would keep to let the teacher know when to change the picture .

Its very interesting. The first side sounds like 70's era jingles turned into full songs. The second side sounds very 80's.

I agree actually.the first side is very 70s but the second side is my era....pure 80s.

They have to be two completely different recording sessions. I found a direct transfer of the record and the A side is in mono while the B side is in stereo. So the A side is likely old TV jingles from the '70s while the B side were new recordings made in 1983 when this record was released. And the "New Wave" track is either Toni Basil singing or a good imitation of her. She had a long history of doing movies and TV, and just had a major hit in 1982 with "Mickey", so Kellogg's might have gotten her to do commercials for them.

I used to have this(probably still do have it). I've been collecting records ever since I got my first real record player when I was 8, and I'm going to be 51 this year! I have got boxes upon boxes of 45 RPM and 7 inch 33 1/3 RPM. I couldn't even tell you what I have, and 85% of them are in alphabetic order. It's always an adventure when I grab a box.

Box tops are what we saved to send in for junk. Your EP is definitely one to send in for. The sound is very good for that record. Great video!

Reminds me of some records I've found in the trash bins at radio stations, when they used to send out some commercials and jingles with voice beds on discs. We usually got them on reel to reel, but occasionally, there would be a disc.

Some of those classroom record players were solid and built for battle! Yours is no exception! I've gotta say -- that is the best sounding cereal-box record I've ever heard. You did a good job in selecting both record AND player!

The quality of musicianship on that EP is top-notch... Very talented session musicians; though I bet a few did raise an eyebrow when asked to play 'Snap, Crackle & Pop' tunes!! Another great show; a fun time! :-)

Back in the day, one would collect and turn in the cereal's box tops to recieve a promotional prize item or two; in 2022, one collects the cereal's proof-of-purchase bar codes to turn in and recieve a promotional prize item or two.

Side one is all the backing jingles for Rice Krispies ads from back in the day. A little after my time. I remember in the early 70s getting The Banana Splits, Lancelot Link’s Evolution Revolution, The Archies, and The Groovy Ghoulies off the backs of cereal boxes for free. This kind of reminds me of Ralphie’s reaction to his Little Orphan Annie decoder ring in A Christmas Story after cracking his first secret code; “Be sure to drink your Ovaltine. Ovaltine? A crummy commercial? Son of a bitch!” That’s what he got for his hard earned 25 cents and postage. Kids were probably expecting Duran Duran or The Eurythmics.

Very interesting. That record sounds really good and I love that school record player. They were built to last. So cool. The music on the record was very interesting. It was like jingles on one side and then you have kind of 80's style pop songs on the other. I love that, I think that's so cool. In fact I think I still have some of those rice krispies pop singles that had a hit song on each side, Give It Up by KC and the Sunshine Band is on one of them. I think they made about half a dozen of those singles, they are great.

I've still got mine! I think I read somewhere that a young Richard Marx was the singer on the first track on the B side. Makes sense because it does kinda sound like him and his dad owned a jingle company.

Haha well that takes me back, my wife used to moan at me about the noise from my cassette walkman at night. I switched to a cd walkman and she moaned about the whirring noise from the motor in that ! One thing I will say about digital audio is it does make listening at night a lot less stressful lol

The easy way to remember the format of the record is to know that EP stands for Extended Play and LP stands for Long Play. An EP is usually a 7 inch record with more than one song on each side, while the LP is usually a 12 inch record with several songs on each side (you probably already know this, but I share this for the benefit of those who are relatively new to vinyl, who wouldn’t know the difference). EPs never really took off in the US, but in the UK they were quite popular. In fact, there were several EPs of Beatles music that made the charts in the UK. But when Capitol in the US tried to do the same thing, sales were disappointing in comparison to sales of LPs and 45 RPM records. So needless to say, there weren’t many Beatles EPs released in the US. I wonder if when this came out, were they still putting records on the back of cereal boxes? Or was this what they did instead? It would make sense to go to this format, because then people would have to pay separately to get it, unlike a record that came with the cereal you bought. Think about it: someone PAYING for the Rice Krispies jingle!!! Frankly, I’d be surprised if you didn’t get a content match on the music on this record from the YT Copyright Nazis. This bunch is so anal that they’d come against Happy Birthday to You!!! 🤣🤣🤣
@Recordology

Its amazing what they can fit on an ep....all of my Glenn Miller 45's are EP.....in fact we did a show on EPs.

Happy Birthday is actually a HIGHLY copyrighted song! That's why when restaurants sing a birthday song - they use their own song! I found that very odd!

The first 2 tracks were made before I was born. The 3rd track is one of my first memories of hearing that "Snap Crackle Pop" jingle (maybe before I would be in nursery school). I first heard about this record some years ago (which was 2007). Here are the links to both sides of that record: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L7gVs5LLqpk.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y9z13aPIapQ.html

I mean, yeah. Little kids rarely owned their own stuff, so this was likely many kids' first record. It was for me, and I listened the hell out of it, just like every other album I owned whether I liked it or not.
