Living in Detroit, the vibe is that everyone is happy for him. It does hurt at the same time. It’s the realization of how far off the franchise is to relevancy. Had a Super Bowl QB for 12 years. Couldn’t even get a playoff dub.
@@Mildern over 50% of his wins in Detroit were comeback wins. He also didn't always have the best players to target or the best coaches drawing up plays against defenses. Ownership gets all the blame there.
Lions fans have came through the rams groups all year long excited for him. I felt the rams n lions had a union and I know most rams fans want ya to win it all soon. Be cool if Stafford last year he goes back n gets ya a chip
@@DMJoeBing Ever wonder why? Cause half the time he doesn't do anything until the 4th quarter. Donald got the glory. Kupp got the MVP. What did Stafford do? 26/40, 283yds, 3TD/2INT. Mediocre.
@@thedarkemissary Stafford led the game winning drive to win the Superbowl. He was far from mediocre. Stafford might of had a couple turnovers but he came through in the clutch and won the game. Stafford has more game winning drives in the playoffs then Aaron Rodgers does. Now that he finally has help he wins the Superbowl in the first year with a new team. It's a team game and everyone needs help.
Stafford is PURE CLASS! If ever there was a star player, an elite athlete, that was stuck languishing in a terrible situation, with NO HOPE to achieve greatness, because of a floundering, bumbling organization, it is Stafford! And he NEVER ONCE whined or complained, or cried for a trade! His patience, grace, humility and insistence to never complain has paid off in spades. He received all the good karma he cultivated. Ive never been happier to see a guy succeed. Now look around the league and take notice of all the spoiled, immature, whining babies complaining about their situations, and asking for, or projecting, for a trade! Stafford is in a class all his own!
I am from a Detroit suburb, and I and everyone I have spoke to is 100% so happy for Matt. I feel like we just won the Super Bowl also. Matt is the man, and I am so glad he could prove what he could do with a team around him.
As a lifelong Lions fan of more than 40 years, I have nothing but love and respect for Matthew and his family. He gave everything he had to that franchise. I don't know (and may never know) what it's like to root for your home team in the Super Bowl, but this one felt a whole lot more personal rooting for him to win. We (Lions fans) are thrilled that the rest of the world is seeing now what we've seen and been saying for the past decade: Matthew Stafford is legit, and will forever be loved by Lions fans.
Who told Rich that Detroit was sour over Stafford winning? It’s the complete opposite. Detroiters across the board supported him and are thrilled with him winning the World Series as we were for Justin Verlander winning the World Series a couple years back.
Definitely bittersweet. Absolutely thrilled to see Stafford win one and show the doubters what we already knew about him: a HOF caliber QB trapped in the worst organization in sports. But obviously bitter, knowing our team once again wasted the talents of an all time great. Just hoping the new regime doing right by Stafford and letting him leave finally breaks the curse, and they can use those extra picks to finally build a contending roster.
The thing about us lions fans is we know the lions gone be bad no matter how good the players are. All we got is hope. We literally saw the best RB ever, and a top 5 receiver wasted.
As a life-long lions fan and a die hard Stafford fan, he was the most underrated QB ever and the Lions did him wrong. I love that he got his superbowl ring. No one deserved it more and I hope he gets more. I Hope he gets so many more. I want to see him become the best like I always knew he was. He's the comeback king! I'll never forget the game against the Browns where he got laid out in the second to last play as he made the play of the game to bring them back. They had to help him off the field and he demanded to go back in and throw the ball. He did and he won the game injured. The man is a soldier who keeps marching no matter what. He puts his whole heart and soul onto the field. I'll always respect him for that.
We’ve been SCREAMING from the mountain tops how ELITE Matthew is and HAS BEEN. Now the rest of the world finally gets to see what we all knew for over a decade. DETROIT LOVES MATTHEW STAFFORD FOREVER. I teared up watching my guy hold that trophy up! 🥲
Considering Detroit was the #2 market with the most Super Bowl viewership saturation outside of Cincinnati, it's safe to say that any Detroit fans that are Stafford-haters are an extremely small and vocal minority. We LOVE Matthew Stafford and are proud and happy for him. Full stop.
As a Georgia Bulldog fan for more than 40 years. I love the fact that Stafford is so beloved. I’m as happy for him as I was a month ago when Georgia won the natty.
It was Kelly Stafford that pushed Matthew to ask for a trade, he was going to try to win a Super Bowl in Detroit and she convinced him that was never going to happen, good for her.
It was common sense even if his wife talked to him to leave? Doubt it. It was him wanting to go for the GOLD. Sure not getting it in the D????? Ford's don't care. How old are you???.
I am neither a fan of the LA Rams nor the Detroit Lions, but I have always been a fan of Matthew Stafford' play and his effort and his class. The one piece of joy that I take from this Super Bowl is that Stafford has his ring and his ticket to the HoF.
Les Snead deserves recognition for this Rams team. GMing a teams not easy, and wow what moves that dude made to get those players! Working well with McVey too. My hats off to him! 🍻🐏
Really nice to read all the love from Detroit fans. I still don’t know how you guys can be so loyal for so long. I really hope Goff is able to carry the load while you strengthen other positions.
I've seen buttloads of comments from Lions fans who still supported him after the trade. I've not seen a single negative comment about him wanting out.
It's a business for the people who don't play. For the players it's a life, with friends, family, and the bonds you've built along the way. This is true with QBs more than any player because of the time they spend with their offense, and in some cases special teams. Time, trust, and working together brings you closer. You can't just throw that away.
As a former QB. Well said. Even at the semipro level. We build so many relationships throughout the locker room. That it hurts when one of ours gets hurt, released or resigned.
As a Packers fan I'm happy for Rams and especially Stafford he went through so much personally and with Lions that he so deserved this win. Along with Donald and OBJ...
Love you Matthew. 6 mins to go, down 4, every Lions fan knew Staff was gonna lead a GW drive. We witnessed him do it over and over and over again. We need to force the Fords to sell. Quit watching, quit going to the games, quit supporting this absolute abomination of an ownership.
It was a no-brainer to leave Detroit after over 10 years of getting crushed. Unless Stafford had a family begging him to stay in Michigan, he was as good as gone.
I never understood the Stafford narrative about not being able to do it in the big games. He's played well in big moments his whole career but it's s the ultimate team sport, and his teams just weren't that good.
@2Phase I feel the same way when these media heads talk about winning records for QBs....so much more to winning a game in the NFL. He was ready for this moment from the time in Detroit
Lifetime Lions fan. Stafford deserved this. Ownership is to blame for poor performance over the last 60+ years. One family has owned the Lions since 11/22/63. I've never blamed the guy who had more comeback wins than flat-out wins during his time in Detroit.
Us Detroit fans love Stafford we are beyond happy for him. Its bittersweet of course but we're so happy. Despite the struggle Stafford loves Detroit. He was heartbroken leaving but he made the right choice we all know it & accept it. As long as he retires as a Lion I'm good 😎
“We just think he wakes up, he’s Aaron Donald. He’s gonna go destroy somebody’s dreams and wreck a game.” Damn Rich this got me cracked up, always love your takes.
Ray Bourque had to wait 22 years and was the greatest defensive player of ALL TIME outside of Bobby Orr. That was so sweet watching him raise Lord Stanley.
Apparently the guy was a real dousche. Was quite disappointed when I learned from one of his family members. Definitely was one of my favorite players growing up, even though he went to the avalanche
If Lions never changed ownership and handed it to Shelia who hired Brad Holmes from the Rams who helped build that team. Alot of this wouldn't have happened. Love Staffy. Good for him.
If you really know anything about football You would know that Odell was post to go to the Lions and Aaron Donald it was a weird weird year and they could’ve picked all those players but bad mangenmt Weird to see them all 3 to get together Y’all could hate super teams but this is like the great Brett Favre sharpe the other good running back and green from Philly team to Troy Aikman emit smith Michael Dallas cowboy teams real great camaraderie super teams
@@gypsygypsy7185 Management that's not in control from top to bottom starting beginning of this past season. I know my team and it's history I lived though 40 years of it. Shelia isn't her parents, Brad Holmes isn't Mayhew and DC isn't Schwartz.
Such a good change of pace to hear a sports commentator talk about a human like he’s a human. So many people make such big sacrifices moving cities every couple years for their career and nobody cares because “they play a game for millions of dollars”
Goff can work if everything else is perfect. If you have MVP Gurley, Kupp, Cooks, Woods, elite offensive line, top 10 defense. If you have all that Goff can possibly get it done. But you must have all of that. Stafford had no run game to help him and his pass protection was about average. Goff couldn’t do it with those problems
Insiders reported at the time that long before the Rams traded Goff, he made some unsavory comments about McVay's lady that were leaked and made public. Then McVay benches Goff in a playoff game he could have played in and then they ship him out of town the next offseason. Stafford and McVay were partners in getting out of terrible situations and made it work. Congrats to them.
Great comments Rich. The amount of talent, commitment and sacrifice these players go through I feel are not fully appreciated by the average fan. The lottery of the draft can put you into a team where you can develop an contribute or stagnate, under achieve and be come a focal point of discontent. Good for Stafford
Watch the ESPN interview with Mathew and Kellie. In it they share the story about running into whit and mcvay at a resort in Mexico. It all started there.
With Goff, I think the Lions win those last four games like he wanted. I think Goff will do well for the Lions. I like Stafford a lot. Very happy for him and his family. We were all pulling for him.
As a Lions fan, I love Stafford and I'm still waiting to be traded as well. I am glad he escaped the Firestone-Fords... pretty sure the Lions would have to pay the other team and take nothing in return if they traded me. I am very proud and happy for Stafford and family and they deserve it. Thanks, Matt.
Where are these Lions fans being negative about Stafford? I'm sure they exist, but as a Detroiter I haven't met one. This subject is being bandied about by pundits way more than it actually exists as a thing.
Fisher was brought in to tank the team to help move the team to LA. He was never expected to last long after the move. Donald was apart of the already great defense in STL but never received as much media attention until after the move (despite winning DROY).
I think it was all the head coaching changing and impending offensive coaches and changes. When Partrica was fired it was the last straw for him to not have to do it again.... and again and again with no confidence that they would eve win consistently.
Can we stop pretending like all 32 teams are allowed to win meaningful games. Have we already forgotten about what those 3 playoff losses looked like to the national audience? Have we already forgotten that the league will take unprecedented steps like picking up flags that would have helped the Lions? Give me a friggin' break. I would love to know what kind of backroom deals have taken place, or not as the case may be... That's what we should take away from this. That even a generational talent like this can be shackled by a league preoccupied with creating narratives.
Goff cost us SB53, Goff blew our 2019 season, and then in 2020 vs 49ers and dolphins solidified his future with the team. We wasted 3 seasons with him... I still want him to do good n wear his jersey tho but look at Detroit now. He was arguably the worst qb this year
After week 10 Goff actually started looking pretty good. They basically fired their OC and Dan Campbell started calling plays. He was banged up and missed 2 games, but he went 3-1 in his final 4 starts, including wins over 2 playoff teams, the Cardinals and Packers. He ended the year building a a ton of chemistry with rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown. I don't know if he can, but I'm hopeful he can turn it around and regain his 2018 form.
The idea that Detroit should throw a parade for Stafford is silly and laughable. Stafford was a class act the entire time he was here and since he's been gone. He never said a single bad thing about Detroit despite half of the national media begging him to bash the city every chance he gets. I just want us to be able to tell the truth about Stafford. He was always a good quarterback, he always did great things in and around the city, but to try to divorce him from the struggles the Lions had is just revisionist history. He dealt with a lot here, but he was also a big part of the Lions' struggles at times. I don't blame people for not knowing that, because not many people outside of Lions fans watch Lions football, but those are the facts. Take it from someone who's been watching this team for 25 years.
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT RICH?!?! After seeing how BARRY and CALVIN were treated by the FORD FAMILY, there was absolutely NO AGONIZING over the Stafford's decision to LEAVE the LIONS!!!!
In fairness to Goff, in the Super Bowl he got to face the goat QB and the goat coach. While this Rams team faced a young Burrow, with no offensive line, and a team that no one expected to go anywhere that far.
I'm happy for Stafford but NEWS FLASH......he doesn't play for Detroit anymore we didn't throw a parade for Van Noy,or any other players that has won a superbowl after they left....happy for him because was best QB I've seen in Detroit
