Unforgivable to not go up by 3 scores when you have the opportunity, that would put such a tremendous amount of pressure on the Niners. Dan Campbell lived by the sword and he died by it tonight
Doesn't matter, you have to play the game/score not your season tendencies or rep. This is what separates great coaches from good. In both of those instances you kick. Terrible choices cost his team, excited for the Lions next year but that was an utter choke job.@@WispFigment

This is hilarious. All these "experts" are pissed at Campbell for doing exactly what he's been doing all year! The Lions played like they always have. The defense has to make a big stop. I don't regret those decisions if I'm Campbell. The way he coaches is the reason they were even there.
Four plays changed Detroit’s season…the missed INT that Aiyuk caught, the Gibbs fumble and the two huge drops by Reynolds. Those four plays completely changed the momentum of the game. What showed up in the second half was Detroit’s youth. SF is a very good team and the Lions and their fans should be proud. Sometimes you just need someone to make a play.

Reynolds drops killed the game and the momentum. Professional receiver needs to catch those passes in those situations. The run to burn a TO was also a head scratcher. Lions will be good for a long time. Next Year!
In a second half filled with perplexing decisions, I think that one was the worst. That 3rd down play has to be a pass into the end zone. You have to save that last timeout to have any chance. I feel bad for Lions fans.
Now you know why the Rams got rid of Jared Goff. Well, it better be a true open competition in training camp and pre-season with Hendon Hooker. We'll never win a Super Bowl with Goff. I am from Detroit. 49'ers didn't win that game. Lions handed it to them. Repeated mistakes in the 2nd half. 49'er will not win the Super Bowl playing like they have the last two games.
Lions had it. They freakin had the game and just took their foot off the gas. Credit the 49ers for making adjustments but those decisions not to kick the FG were HUGE. He'll learn from this. Shannahan has learned from many tough losses. Lions should feel proud of the season they had.

It all turned on that 4th and short dropped pass. After that is was all downhill. The 2nd huge drop, the interception that hits off the DB's face fir 1st and goal 49ers, misplayed long TD catch that should have been....yeah they totally blew it and gave it away every chance they got starting with that 4th down drop.
We know the feeling brother. It happened to us against the Rams a couple years ago. You gotta come hard all 4 quarters brother. Better luck next year. Fantastic season for Detroit nonetheless
The Lions didn't take their foot of the gas...they floored the gas pedal to the metal and swerve right off the road (aka going for it on 4 down vs. the FG)

We watched the 9ers kicker miss a 48 yarder, and Moody is miles better than Badgley. The kicker was a concern all year. Anything over 40 was a coin flip
Yeah I was yelling at my TV, TAKE THE POINTS! The gutsy calls are fun during the regular season, but simply reckless with the Super Bowl right under your nose.
Campbell was going for the kill shot on that first fourth down. If Reynolds catches that ball and they go down and score a touchdown, they’re up 31-10 and the game is over. It’s really was three lucky plays that bailed the 49ers out. The drop, the catch off the face mask, and the fumble. The Lions outplayed the 49ers, but the 9’ers got lucky.
His ego got the best of him. Dan gambled way too many times and it caught up to him. I don’t think they’ll ever make it back to the NFC championship, too many up and coming teams, plus we all said that about the Eagles last year too.
Yea honestly for the first 4th down if the receiver just catched the freaking ball that was SUPER manageable then we've would've won. So we can't put it all on dan
I don't think so. Campbell keeps doing the same thing over and over again. There’s a time to be aggressive and there is a time to score whatever points you can. Until Campbell learns that, the Lions are never gonna win anything significant.
So happy that my Niners won. Now we get a chance to avenge our loss against the Chiefs from Super Bowl 54. Hats off to the Lions. They're a tough team and had a great season.
Of all of the teams I thought had the cajones to make a big comeback, I would not have suggested the Shanahan and Purdy 49ers. Of all the teams who could go up 24-7 on the 49ers and blow it, I would not have expected the Dan Campbell Lions.

Im a 9ers fan but somehow the NFL is feeling more like a carefully choreographed play where teams and players will do Uncharacteristic things and ultimately the darling (or chosen) teams ultimately still come out on top. I dunno. Maybe im just jaded but the last several seasons it feels like things are planned more and more.

When you're still waiting for a SB appearance in your seventies, think about Dan Campbell and how wonderful he was. When you play the Bears during the season, of course it look like your team can always get the momentum back. You got to kick fields goals on 4th downs against good teams. Points matter.

You didn't lose cuz of Goff, I don't think. The 9ers woke up and our defense decided to come to work, ....and some errors were made but Goff didn't seem like an issue. He drove down that last TD you all made. He got u close.
I've never seen a team sell so hard. It almost felt like the lions were trying to give the game away. I counted about 400 gambling ads in the second half hmmmmmmm

Can we please not have the argument of who won them the game? They don’t win without Purdys amazing second half, Bosa’s 2 sacks and TFL’s, Warners amazing game, Aiyuks incredible catch, and of course CMC. The team willed that comeback. All of them deserve credit.

Lions fan here. Dan going for it is how they got there. I said they should kick, because SF had just scored a FG so you wanna at least keep the margin, but 3 consecutive errors is what did them in: 1. When they went for it on 4th down, Reynolds didn't make the catch. That guy has been clutch all year and like 90% of his catches were for 1st downs, but still he should have caught it. 2. The bizarre 51 yard catch off the defender's face. Vildor should have had the INT but instead it set up SF for a TD. 3. Gibbs fumbling the ball to set up the tying TD. Gibbs has been great especially at protecting the ball, but that whole play seemed botched from jump. Any one of those 3 doesn't happen, The Lions likely win. Not many predicted them to win and they scored 31, or the road, and lost by 3. Great season, but yeah, disappointing way to lose even if the outcome (SF winning) was mostly expected.
Purdy beating Mahomes in the SB would be a direct hit on the philosophy of the draft system. Its driven by politics and it doesn't work the way they say.
Heartbreaker for us Lions fans. A couple bad decisions by Campbell and drops by Reynolds shifted the momentum drastically. That being said, the 49ers still had to execute to make comeback and they did exactly that. Now do the rest of the country a favor and beat the Chiefs. If we have to see Taylor Swift after every other play, I want to see her pouting.
You know there's a meme pic of looking at Montana without glasses, then putting them on and it's Purdy? Well watching Purdy run was hauntingly similar to Steve Young, reckless, unsuspecting speed and legs, and he goes head first which is terrifying as we know Steve's career was cut just a bit short due to them bell rings. So he looks like Montana in the pocket, and Young when running... And he took those hits, no fear, running, and in the pocket. Give me that shoutout Rich.. Purdy giving those flashes of Steve Young!

Also, the 49ers got lucky with that catch off the face mask and the fumble by Gibbs. Let them go boom - boom and tie the game. The Lions outplayed the 49ers, but when you’re playing a better team…you have to outplay them AND get lucky. The 49ers just got the breaks in the second half.
About "I remember" is real. I remember attending '57 game at Kezar and seeing Lions best my Niners. My brother & I got free tickets thanks to Christopher Milk Club giving season tickets by submitting milk coupons from Christopher Milk company. Seats in end zone corner & walk back to car with dad & uncle w/o a word from any of us. Kyle Rote & "Hopalong Cassidy" killed the Miners! Revenge is indeed sweet!

Thanks to Dan Campbell, we made it to the NFC Championship game. Thanks to two neglected field goal tries, we refused to get back up by 17 the first time and refused to tie the game at 24 the second time. A bit more in the Brains Department and a bit less in the Guts Department can take you a long way. Oh, and by the way, the 49ers did their part too. I hope Purdy and Co. win the Lombardi.
Dan Campbell is the man. He has my undying respect. I am a 9ers fan, but still, he is who he is and i respect him for it. I was actually surprised when he DID for the 3 earlier in the game.
I'm sure Detroit will be back in the mix next season with what Dan Campbell was able to accomplish this year. As long as they keep doing what they did this season, the future is looking good for them.

As a 49ers fan, I take my hat-off to Dan Campbell for staying aggressive because he knew the 49ers can score in a heartbeat. If Kyle Shanahan had been aggressive in his Super Bowl in Atlanta and stepped on the Pat's throats like the Eagles did against the Patriots when they won or if Kyle had stayed aggressive against the Chiefs in the other Super Bowl and stepped on heir throats when they were up by 10 points, he would have won.
Rich you know the Monday morning shows, Get Up, First Take ESPN, First Things First, Speak will not give Purdy any credit. The Brock hate is just overwhelming and based solely on his draft status. If he was a 1st overall they'd say he's a Hall Of Famer in the making.
