I don't think Gumball and Darwin necessarily HATE Richard (atleast, for most of the episodes), they're literally just being matter of fact. They're just brutally honest about how their dad is... Speaking of which, despite Richard becoming extremely swole... he's still ultimately dumb, and apparantely vain? Hence all the chaos from trying to take instagram pictures while unknowingly causing harm to everyone around him...
Darwin calls Richard Mr. Dad because: 1. He's a father figure 2. He knows they're not related and feels like he needs to give more respect. (in one episode they even joked about it, with Darwin saying "you're not my real dad?" and Richard responding with "how did you know?!" before they both erupted in laughter)
Them laughing was pretty wholesome, despite not being biologically related. I said a similar thing with Finn and Jake, with Jake's parents adopted Finn. Sadly comments got offended over me correcting that Finn is adopted, it's infuriating for something so simple.
Darwin calls him "Mr. Dad" because when he was adopted and learned to talk he called him "Mr. Watterson" and when he was told to call him dad he got confused. It all gets explained in "The Origins" where Darwin's existence is explained.
I actually comment this before but, Here are some episodes that would be quite interesting to see your reaction. -The Recipe: I feel like it's one of the darkest episodes and most underrated ones. -The Slap: if the others episodes you watched didn't traumatize you enough, this one will. -The Joy: this episode traumatized many. thats all i just gonna say. -The Pizza: This episode gets so surreal. And it explains a little bit about Larry and his jobs. -The Shell: a heartwearming episode with some pretty memorable scenes and character development, You're going to like gumball in this one. -The Void: I'm sure it's already been recommended but it's an incredible episode. -The Shippening: one of the most funniest and craziest episodes at least for me. -The Signal: a surreal episode that will make you have more questions than answer about their world. -The Trilogy of the episodes, The Hug, The Awkardnes, The Cringe: Definitely the most uncomfortable episodes of the show. I don't think you'll get over these.

I think Darwin calls Richard mr dad because he probably used to call him mr watterson when he was new to family and maybe was told to call him dad instead but kept the mr lol Idk if this is mentioned in an episode but this is probably why

1:46 fun fact: my nana, despite the fact that her son, my father, worked at several different fast food places, had no idea what a burrito was, and my mother had to explain it to her. Remember in The Origins Part 2, Richard told Darwin he could call him Dad, because Darwin always called him Mr. Watterson. From then on, Darwin always called him Mr. Dad. Gumball and Anais always call him Dad tho.

Darwin was adopted young so when he was first adopted he called him Mr. waterson. They told him he didn’t have to call him Richard/ Waterson so he started calling him Mr. Dad ( 1:03 )

The reason why Darwin address his parents as "Mrs" and "Mr" was revealed in The Origin Pt2. At first he called Nicole "Mrs Watterson" and Nicole told him to call her mom, after that he says "Okay, Mrs Mom". It's more like a misunderstanding at the time
