It's refreshing to see an interviewer who seems really interested by what the actor is saying. You can see how a fan he is of the movie, I love it! Good job ;)

Jackson totally pulls off the dwarves fighting Smaug in Erebor, because he doesn't have them fight him with just normal weapons. They use all the old forging stations and their knowledge of their home to fight him; it drives the point that the dwarves used to be society of absolutely kickass smiths before they got driven out of Erebor, and that they know this place so well they can turn it into a weapon. Jackson is a goddamn genius.

I love the movie but that is one part I actually can't be so positive about. For one thing it was too long, it diminished the threat of Smaug and made his scenes feel less special. Combine that with the overuse of CGI and the unrealistic events and the scene becomes a real drag on your suspension of disbelief. Should have been shorter with less CGI, would have improved it 10 times.

DutchDread You mean less CGI on Smaug? Or in the movie in general? .
@IndianaJoel93
@IndianaJoel93 10 лет назад
DutchDread Calls a film with Dwarves, Hobbits, Wizards, Elves, Orcs, a Necromancer and a 200 feet long Dragon "unrealistic", bit of a fail there. And less CGI? When and where? Surely not? And what is it with everyone hating CGI these days? A live action version of The Hobbit would not be possible without CGI.

IndianaJoel93 Totally agreed! CGI hasn't even reached the level of "reality" that it will have ten years from now, so people should stop pissing all over it! It's fantastic what people can do with it!

IndianaJoel93 This smaug has the body of a wyvern not a dragon. It should look more like a western European dragon not a Viking wyvern.

Did Richard Armitage literally sit in that same chair for hours while these interviewers just came in one after another?

ahaha the last thing. I went through the entire first Hobbit movie a couple times to figure out when and where Thorin smiled (because at first I thought there was only one and it was the one at the very end >.>)

Richard does give the best interviews! Poor guy. I've seen so many of his interviews (usually w/a very poor interviewer) he must dread having to give any more.

whereyat89 Yes, he was always so sweet no matter how bad the interviewer is. And he had so many interviews where the interviewer was terrible! I don't know how he was able to keep a straight face sometimes. His answers were always so thoughtful, too. He's a great guy!

+L Broderick U are right about 'Nice Guy" , and "Bad Interviewers" However, right after the release of the first Hobbit film he was interviewed going to a Premiere for ' The Unexpected Journey' I can not remember where, it was the 4th, or 5th one, The interviewer was surprised to see him at another Premiere for the same movie. Richard explained that he felt it was part of the job to help promote it, confirming he would go to everyone he could get to. He was then asked if he didn't get tired of talking about Thorin, his character- and the movie in general. His reply was so cool. His face lite up, and with a big smile said, "Absolutely not, never. I enjoy talking about Thorin Oakenshield. He's a complex fellow and I'm just getting to know him" I did see one done as he was going into a screening and was asked- "So, who are you wearing?" by an idiot w/ a microphone and camera. Richard just laughed at the guy and responded, "What? Who am I wearing? What kind of question is that?" the idiot stammered that he was just trying to fit in, RA said, " Its a Tom Ford suit, so Who are you wearing?" The banter went back and forth for another minute or two, when Richard said "You're asking stupid questions man, I'm not answering anymore, sorry/" and went on, still laughing. He admitted to Marlise Boland that 'the silly ones' he simply found so amusing. But when he was asked intelligent questions about Thorin he really likes the whole process, and didn't think he would ever tire of discussing him in detail. And I would bet my last dollar he is laughing to himself about this one too. Which I think us really cool- best of both worlds... a great conversation or a good laugh... what could be better?

Thanks. I'd like to see that one. I know on all the ones I saw him give on The Hobbit he was always pretty nice and serious. Trust me, over in New Zealand they had some pretty bad interviewers. But he would always smile and answer all the questions even if some of them were pretty stupid. Unless you're doing the red carpet at the oscars or emmys, etc., you don't usually ask a guy "who is he wearing." LOL! That's not the type of interview Richard wants to do. As you said, he doesn't mind talking about the character and if it's a character he likes he'll pretty much answer anything. Do you know what he's been doing. I watched Aidan Turner in Poldark, Season 1. Can't wait for the second Season. Haven't seen anything that Richard is doing though.

Yes that took me by surprise Thorin is turning to the dark side a bit..did not expect that from the movie, the book is something else entirely.
@ilovelij
@ilovelij 10 лет назад
Well it still happens in the book, when Thorin gets so mad at Bilbo about the Arkenstone. It's true the movie was very different in many aspects but for that it is a constant I think

I agree...and I don't blame Peter Jackson throwing in Tauriel, who is not in the book but she, I think, adds a needed dimension to the movie.

Yes we are (thankfully) seeing stronger female roles (ie. Game of Thrones, Hunger Games..etc) that basically as you said "kick ass". Good comment, thanks.
